  1. Hehehehehe I knew you were going to say that. But you're right. Do love him, and I am doing it for him. I'm hoping he will "wakeup and spell the coffee." In other words, hopefully he'll see that there is better places out there. I will still "bug" him, too
  2. Kickchick, my honey likes the Giants. They didn't make it, so he's not interested. And I'm not interested anyway. But I like the beer and spicey food thing I'll be watching all night karate on ESPN2, and chuggin a few brews. No work or training the next day
  3. Hey all. For those of you who don't watch football ..... or your team didn't make it, and you're not interested in it ..... There will be karate on ESPN2 Sunday night (26th) starting at 6:00pm. It's about time they had karate on at a reasonable hour!
  4. Ok, here's what's happening. Sub will prolly say that I'm a sucker LOL. Anyways, I made a agreement with my honey. I stay at the McDojang if he pays for it (I refuse ). This way I can help him and make sure he "grows" as a martial artist, not just a victim of a McDojang I am (Sub will like this) going to cross-train in Judo to get what I want out of martial arts, which is falling, joint locks, throws ...... pretty much self defense stuff I'll do this for a while to see how it works (I'm pretty sure it will ). Ok, Sub, let me have it LOL
  5. I did look at that one, Mike. It is a very good site. I learned a lot Sub, I'm still lookin through all the site you have here LOL.
  6. I studied Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan. I have a few websites for you to look at This site is a general TSD MDK site: http://www.traininghalls.com/tsd/ My old assn site: https://www.imahq.net This is an awsome all around general TSD site: http://pages.cthome.net/redtsd/#sect5 Here's a site that has the TSD, TKD (both WTF and ITF), and SBD forms on it, if you like to check them out: http://mchenry.homeip.net/TangSooDo/forms/index.htm These are my fav sites. But If you do a google ( https://www.google.com ) search for Moo Duk Kwan, there should be a lot of great sites about it. I hope this helps
  7. I agree, Mike. The Judo instructor was my friend's instructor. She said he is a really good guy, and good instructor. A few others told me that the club is great. So I will check it out
  8. Kyle, Well my WTF TKD dojang is $99!!! Eeeeekkkkkkk. I think the average here (in upstate New York) is around $90. Unless you find something in the YMCA (like I did). The cheapest I found outside the YMCA was $75. Sub, Thanks for the websites. It'll take me a while to go through them LOL.
  9. Thanks, Sub. I do have a strong base in "striking arts." I am looking for more what you are speaking of. I will definitely look into all those. You have any good websites I could look at? I am limited to what arts I have to choose from in my area, but if I find good sites, like I did with Thai boxing, I could pick it up and learn it. I will definitely check out the Judo Dojo
  10. Muay Thai is good (I have studied it on my own ..... or the Thai boxing version ...... very good:) ). If you are looking more for self defense, I'd look at Hapkido, jujitsu, Muay thai, or JKD. I don't know about many other styles. Someone else who knows more about other styles can help (I'm a Korean arts geek that wants to venture out also). Find out what's in your area. We can help you out from there (as far as self defense). But you have to be happy with what you pick. It's not what about what WE want. It's about what YOU want.
  11. Thanks for the site, Bhayl. Good stuff on there. Kirves, I do understand You do make a good point. The TKD MDK dojang I want to go to is 45 minutes away. It's a good place and only $75 a month (cheap for this area). The weather is playing a major role here. We are getting "slammed" every other day with snow. It's hard to get there. But the Judo dojo is right here and it's only $25 a month (it's in a YMCA). I heard good things about it. I'll check it out next weekend. Thanks all.
  12. Hiya all. I was wondering about Judo. I found a Dojo in my town. I was wondering about the techniques learned. Don't turn this into "well, this grappling art is better" argument. I am wondering about Judo, because this place is close, affordable, and seems to be a good place (from word of mouth). So if anyone has info on what is taught at each belt rank (rank doesn't matter, I'm just using it as a gauge on what is taught). Like "kata" (if any), self defense type techniques, throws, falls, ect. If anyone knows of a site with mpegs and info, that'll be even better Thanks in advance
  13. Stories behind my injuries?? They are mainly the cause of showing off LOL. Except for the broken finger. I did that while we were doing kick-block drills. I pulled my left hammy twice because I was almost "forcing" myself to get flexible (I was not flexible at all at the time). In TKD, I pulled the right hammy during a board breaking class. We were allowed to pick what breaks we were going to do. I did two speed breaks (360, and speed punch), so one of the black belts said "do a jumping axe kick. You were in another style. I know you can do it." In this school, that was a BB break (I was only a yellow belt in TKD at the time). He dared me. So I did it. It was cool too. I went really high on my jump and did a perfect break (board) and rip (hammy). Good combo LOL ..... ouch! The jumping side kick thing happened cause I wasn't paying attention to how I was landing my kick. And I don't know exactly how I hurt my left leg again. It does have something to do with MA, though.
  14. Great advice all I think you are right, in a way. We both love the martial arts with a passion, but maybe we are in it for different reasons. I agree with the dojang not going to change, but who knows. We have talked about this. He won't go (so far). He likes where he is. I like the thing about sharing ideas (Pacific). I know I have to make the best decision for me, but I love him (the things people will do for love). I want both of us to be happy. We have talked it over. I got him into martial arts in the first place (he followed my lead ). My thing is, I never talked it over with my instructor. I think I should have. I regret not doing so, because there may be reasonings behind what they do. I like one of the instructors there. He is always willing to help students in anyway. So, I think I will talk to him before making my decision.
  15. Cool! More TSD peoples wooohoooo. I was the only one for a while. Welcome, Crash. Tang Soo!
  16. Hiya folks. I need some advice. Here's my problem. My boyfriend and I train together at the "Mcdojang." He knows I want to leave. I found a new dojang that I really like. I haven't trained at the McDojang for two weeks (while I figure out what to do about the contract). We had two "talks" about me leaving. I don't know if he is trying to give me the "gilt-trip." He said he doesn't mind what I do. But yet, he told me that the "McDojang" is going through some "changes." They've been talking about it in class. They want to make more room (in class time) for technique work. Then he said that they did a lot of Chin Na last night (nothing but). Which sounds good to me, because I wanted more self defense. He also pays for my tuition. I don't pay a dime for anything. The contract is somewhat on him for both of us. If I stay at the new dojang (after my trail thingy), he won't pay for it, which doesn't hurt my feelings. I have a job. Besides all this, I feel really bad, because I won't/haven't been training with him. We started this together when I moved up here. I don't know what to do. It's not about the McDojang anymore. It's about "us." I feel terrible
  17. I did TSD for a year and three months. Broke a finger blocking a kick, pulled left hammy twice (I wasn't flexible at all, but I tried really hard), besides the ever so present bruises LOL. TKD for one year. Pulled right hammy doing jumping axe kick last spring (I was dared by a black belt, so I did it ). Hurt my knee a few months ago doing a flying side kick into a heavy bag, and my knee went the wrong way (it didn't take long to heal ..... about two weeks, roughly). Then I just hurt my left leg again. It still bothers me. I think I hurt it visiting my old dojang when we were sparring, but I don't remember.
  18. Sai, I never trained in my teen years. I was fat, outta shape. I couldn't tell you the difference, because I don't know. I was 24 when I started MA. It was the greatest thing I ever did for myself. I am in better shape than I ever was, and I wouldn't quit for nothing. Not even cancer. I had cancer and over came it. I know you have MS (from another thread) but don't let it get you down (and I know you haven't). I work with someone else with MS. She is in a wheelchair, but not for long with her courage (sp?). She inspires me I have a lot of faith in you, and I know what you over-came now with this friend of mine. Bless you. Keep up the great work
  19. Hey TKDLady. I just turned 28 today
  20. My new dojang doesn't have contracts at all. That alone draws in students. Once they find out the stuff we learn, it keeps them there. I'm no teacher, or even a black belt, but I say this is the way to go We learn traditional TKD. This includes the stuff that was taken out for "sport," like joint locks, throws, take downs, self defense, ect. Not just kicking and punching. Not all TKD is bad, but the good schools are few and far between. Sad ..... very sad. The McDojos definitely gave TKD a bad name and it's a shame.
  21. Congrads on finding a good dojang. Yes, the kicks you learned in TKD will help you in Hapkido. Take the free classes. I know you will enjoy Hapkido if you are looking for self defense.
  22. I must be confused LOL. I didn't know there were two books. Anywho, they are both good
