  1. Hey kf: I vacation on Kauai every other year or so, and the last time I was there, I saw a sign for a karate place right near the airport I believe. It may also be a Kajukenbo school or Kenpo...can't truely remember off hand. When you get there, I'd definitely hit the yellow pages, or ask some of the locals. Another suggestion I have, I'll PM you. Congrats on your wedding by the way
  2. Have you ever heard of the Sabaki Challenge? It's a full contact karate tourney held in Denver Colorado. It's put on by a karate instructor named Shihan Ninomiya. Well I believe this is what his karate is called, Enshin karate. It's probably the same group of folks.
  3. U are in the right place, and yes, U can use a judo gi for jujitsu. Now the only preference will be if u want a single or double weave uniform, white, off white, or blue uniform
  4. I don't think that it'll become an olympic sport, especially when the governing bodies, that would oversee the sport itself can't even see eye to eye. I forget the who the two organizations are, but there had been articles regarding this in past martial arts magazines. In regards to the Wushu question, yes it'll be introduced at the next Summer olympic games.
  5. Not from Trinidad, but welcome aboard all the same:-D
  6. I've seen him up close, and I'm taller than he is, so my guess is around the 5'3" mark
  7. I have seen this guy on several occasions, and each time I was not impressed. Once was at a Gerald Okamura Dragonfest event, and he wore a clown type rainbow color wig.......and was simply being a "clown". Not what I would have expected from someone who is suppose to be a "who's who" in the martial arts world. Just my opinion
  8. I've learned them in pairs, so as to better familarize and maniupulate them at the same time. As one blocks, the other strikes
  9. My old Kenpo gi is lined w/the tiger camo so that it is reversible. I still have it, too bad it's a size 3, cause it dosen't fit anymore
  10. When I do my advance training at the home dojo, it is in a coverted garage. When I teach, it is out of my garage which is set up with padded mats. On occasion, I'll go to the local park
  11. Welcome aboard
  12. Welcome to the forum
  13. How about a round of cheers for the 2 American women who won the gold and bronze medal in the Women's sabre competition Both outstanding matches against equally matched opponents
  14. Remember the line in The Last Samurai....."Too much mind"......well, I try to keep my mind clear of all predetermined outcomes, techniques, counters, and just work with what's in front of me. If an opening is there, then I try to seize it, if not, I try to create it . As for fighting back in anger, try to think of it as a controlled anger/agression, and not let it consume you .
  15. It's the Yin and Yang of weapons training.....the flash vs. the practical, without one of them nearby, you will become unbalanced
  16. Video tape yourself doing your katas too. That way you have it for reference. Plus you can see yourself, besides a mirror which isn't always possible, and look for the areas where you need improvements.
  17. Cool, welcome aboard
  18. Hello and welcome aboard And as for some encouragement......come on, you can do it
  19. Peace..welcome aboard. Hope you have fun and find things here useful!
  20. Talking T.V. martial artist wise, I'd have to go with Mark Dacascos from the Crow series, Chuck Norris from Walker, Texas Ranger series, and Sammo Hung from his short-lived T.V. series.
  21. Saw the preview last night.....looks to be a good movie, ala Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon. Funny how Tarentino had some part in it coming to the big screen, versus just being a movie starring Jet Li
  22. Welcome aboard
  23. Hard training, hard sparring is all good, but man the injuries.....well it's bound to happen, but it can sure put a damper, not to mention delays in your training
