Century Ironman or Tokaido Arashi?
Pacificshore replied to Mu Ryuk's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
You probably can't go wrong with either uniform, it just depends on how much of your money you want to spend The Tokaido Arashi I believe is manufactured out of China vs. Japan. This helps keep the cost down, and hopefully maintain the same quality. -
Overal cost perhaps and availability

Where to buy wholesale uniforms?
Pacificshore replied to Englon's topic in Instructors and School Owners
You can also try https://www.tigerclaw.com . You will need to have a business lic. or resale license. KWON was by far one of the larger companies to open a wholsale account easily. Another place that was relatively easy was Kinjisan Martial Arts Supply in New York. All you would have to do for them is send them your business flyer and card, they will send you their wholsale price sheet, and then you'd call them to activate your account. Not sure if they carry the V-neck uniforms though. But if you are looking for good traditional karate uniforms, they carry the Ronin brand which is a decent uniform -
Sounds cool. I actually have a 4 point one made out of surgical steel. Very sharp and has good weight and balance to it, but difficult to throw w/o slicing ur self open

should learn karate or a other martial art?
Pacificshore replied to pentaxphoto's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Question is ...what do you want to learn?.....if you have no idea, start somewhere with something then try to figure out what it is your looking for. But before you start any form of martial arts, remember one thing, it's about hard work, desire, and dedication. None of this quick need for self gratification. -
imaginary g/f's and blow-up dolls don't count .....just messin with ya Congrats and good luck

ernie: It is the second part of the book, however it is not that great. It covers the history, the types of shurikens, method of holding the shuriken, target placement, practice, how to make your own, safety precautions, and throwing distance. There are a few pics to go along with it. That about covers it as compared to the weighted chain section, which consequently is most of the book.

I have a binder

Yo Zap: Just know in your heart and mind that you've worked hard for your BB, and continue to do so. Whether there are 2,3,4 BB's in your dojo, or 50 BB's(including kids), just be sure to keep your training and learning above the rest....that's all

What styles cross over the belt on the back?
Pacificshore replied to P.A.L's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Funny, when I took Shotokan, my instructor and all his students had the cross over in the back when tying on their belts. He is associated w/Nishiyama Sensei, and I never heard a gripe about how they tied their belts. Me on the other hand was taught early on to not cross over in the back. So it is just a personal preference for me as it is for Shorinryu Sensei to cross his over. In my opinion, as I'm sure is yours....dosen't matter how the belt is tied, so long as it's tied -
I happen to have this book in my library. Pretty decent book, although I've never heard of a "Bo" shuriken. The books talks about the spiked shaped shuriken, as well as the more well known star shaped one.

Hey, Welcome aboard. If u are going into the USMC, you will be exposed to their combatives. Start there and figure out what works best for you. Just my 2 cents

you are talking about very awesome weapons but...

Wanna bet on it? Off the topic, do you know Rod martens out of Wyoming? Also does karaho. Just wondering. Yes I do. Met him a couple years ago when I was out there. Good guy -

Pacificshore replied to dancin_ash's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Hey...guess what! Knife ---we do tons of knife defenses, and yes, it's a good weapon. Metal pipe/Baseball bat/Sticks Funny, depending on the length of the pipe..it can be used as a bo/staff, escrima/nitonbo or jo (short staff). Baseball bat/sticks just like an escrima/nitonbo? Possibly like tonfa/sai? Sounds like similar weapons to me. Glass Bottles OK, bottles are bottles. Belts/Chains Can be used just like nunchaku, and are practiced in the dojo that way. We learn kobudo/traditional weapons for several reasons. Tradition, strengthing of specific parts of the body, and the use of weapons in general. I may not have a pair of nunchaku in my back pocket if I get into a fight, but I will have a belt, possible a garden hose, rope or chain nearby that I can use. I might not carry a bo with me either, but a pool stick, baseball bat, pipe, flag pole, or 2x4 might be handy to use instead. Get the idea? We can only pray and hope the message was received and understood -
Just say NO to illegal drugs, and YES to MARTIAL ARTS

I want to study karate, what should I need to know?
Pacificshore replied to BUslady's topic in Karate
Yes he did double for Morita in the Karate Kid. I've seen him from time to time at some tourneys, and he's age appropriate . Even better does put on some demos here and there. Probably not like he use to tho -
Former Shotokan stylist for 3yrs. or so. My instructor was/still affiliated with Nishiyama Sensei. We studied the 26 Shotokan katas, although I never hit them all. My favorite was Nijushiho. In fact my av is of me performing Nijushiho at competition . All in all was a good time training, and learned lots

Probably so. He'd perform at the Neisse(sp) festival in L.A., and still does I believe. -

Pacificshore replied to BUslady's topic in Karate
Hi BUSLady: I'm familiar with the area u are from, however, not too sure on the distance between u and Anaheim. Fumio Demura Sensei is located out of Anaheim or Santa Ana, and he teaches Shito-ryu, and also Okinawan Kobudo. Another instructor that comes to mind in that area is Yamazaki Sensei. Now maybe you can inquire as to whether or not they may have instuctors out your way that teach out of a YMCA, Rec center, or even privately. Give them a look, and see if there may be something available to you in your area -
Hi, Welcome and enjoy!

Thugs in Fiji get beat-down by 4th Dan...
Pacificshore replied to doubletwist's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeah, then I guess the story about the idiot crook in Los Angeles that tried to carjack a van from judo players was just another promotional media stunt to bring the world's attention regarding the art of judo and it's street effectiveness Or maybe it wasn't a set-up, and that judo is good for the streets -

And they say karate is ineffective...just a case in point that it isn't -
This is a very good suggestion I know that when I received my Nidan rank, my Grandmaster presented all that passed their test a blade of some sort. Mine was a wakasashi
