  1. The thing I don't like about the V-necks is the inability to pull away from a lapel grab during sparring. At least with the cross tie jacket, you can pull away easier w/o the worrying about ripping your gi top.
  2. GO FLAMES GOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo......OH, YEA LIGHTNING Not that I'm into hockey, much less understand the rules. Bout the only thing I like are the fights, and yes when goals are made
  3. Hey welcome on board Cat

    Bunkai

I like to teach the bunkai of our katas as I see it helping out my students have a better understanding of our forms. However, as I was learning the katas, I was rarely shown the bunkai. Fortunately I've taken an interest in the kata applications myself, and have trained long enough to recognize what the bunkai may be. It is also my opinion that the bunkai in any form may have more than one application .
  8. Welcome and enjoy the forum
  9. I use to never give it any thought, until I realized that if ever asked about my credentials by parents, or students, I had no where for them to checkout my background. In some cases it has mattered, and in others it did not matter. But it dosen't hurt to have a place for them to contact to check out my credentials if it'll make them feel better about their decision to learn from me. Not all organizations that certify their instructors operate in the same manner, and this is where it comes down to you in terms of what your expectations are with any particular outfit. To this date, I have been with my current organization, and have not had any issues with $$ or rank status. So for me, being part of a certifying organization is fine. I also know that when I feel we are not on the same level, then I can simply walk away.
  10. They are far and few between. All the ones you see on the on the racks of bookstores are hit and miss. There was an English MA publication called Fighting Arts International, by Terry O'niell. That was a good magazine. I've heard that he's back now, and that you can suscribe to it via pdf format. Classical Fighting Arts, formerly Dragon Times, is another decent one if you want less advertisements, and more substance. In fact, CFA still carries some of FAI surplus magazines. I believe the website for CFA is https://www.dragon-tsunami.org . Check them out, it may be what you are looking for.
  11. I have a school T-shirt that is part of the uniform. But in those hot summer days, it's gi tops off. If we have to do grabbing techniques, then we just try not to rip the t-shirts off each other
  12. Hey all: I have 2 new medium weight karate uniforms in black. It is made by Tiger Claw, and is a Poly/Cotton mix. I have a size 5 and a size 3 left. The students who bought them simply decided karate wasn't their bag. Anyway, I have no use for them now so if anyone needs a replacement or spare, just send me a PM for details or a picture. Size 3: up to 5'6" and 140lbs Size 5: up to 6'0 and 185lbs Thanks in advance
  13. Are you dealing in retail or wholsale costs? The last tourney my son attended, they gave out a nice looking acrylic trophy(sized for a desk) for 1st place, and medals for 2nd and 3rd. Ribbons for attending.
  14. Casted my vote

  16. I would think by the design the XXL isn't a free standing bag likely to fall over easily. I have one of the earlier models, and although I've banged it around, I have yet to actually knock it over.
  17. Cool, welcome aboard!
  18. Cool, right on Ant....welcome aboard
  19. Never seen one like it...perhaps its just a prop bag for the movie
  20. [quote=Pacificshore That sucks that you ran it over Well my other half actually did
  21. I refer to my instructors as Sensei. The Grandmaster as Grandmaster. Myself, I too am addressed as Sensei by the other bb in my system, and the lower ranks. When I teach my private students, they call me by my name. But, they know to address any other bb of the system, or the GM as such. It's part of the tradition and respect as well.
  22. I had one of the first ones made by Century. I liked it, and it worked well for me. Unfortunately it got run over while in my garage and that was the end of it. Never did get another one.....maybe I should look into one again. The older I get the harder it is to stretch
  23. If you do a search for martial arts supplies, you'll get ton of sites
  24. I suggest that you shop around for other middleweight brand pants. I recommend at the very least 10oz. for a middleweight. I don't think that the 7.25oz. ones would be see through, but they may not hold up too well for jujitsu. Have you thought about just buying some judo/jujitsu gi pants? Just my 2cents
