  1. I had a Red Bone Coonhound named Granpa, and I also had a female Samoyed named Kelsey. Both passed several years back, but they were both very cool lovable dogs. We adopted them from the local shelter
  2. Ideally if it a sword your looking, then a custom one made to your specs would be the way to go. However, it can be costly. Also could depend on the type of sword your looking for....katana, tai chi sword, broad sword, etc.
  3. Sounds a bit "old school", but usually not done by other students to set the other straight. Would have been done by the instructor himself. Nowadays that practice is outdated, and as everyone has said unacceptable. We learn from out experiences and how to better handle a similiar situation when it is now our turn to deal with questions from students.
  4. Welcome aboard!
  5. Welcome to the family
  6. Welcome aboard!
  7. SS, you thinkin what I'm thinkin......Ripley's Believe or Not
  8. Depends on what I'm looking for, or the best price I could get what I'm interested in So I've shopped Kwon, Tiger Claw, Martial Arts Superstore, Sakura Martial Arts, Kinji-San.....just to name a few
  9. never had the opportunity....just like I like it
  10. Depends on how many you are carrying and can spare by throwing them at the bad guy/gal ......heck if you do run out better start grabbing things around you to throw at 'em
  11. St. Louis Rams
  12. My belt is also black since October 18, 1986 Lucky for me it still fits
  13. Beka: Can't really add anymore than what everyone else has commented on. You have placed your training in the hands of your instructor, so trust that he knows when your are ready to test, and when you are not. Enjoy your training, but don't compare yourself to your other dojo mates because everyone is different Good luck on your test!
  14. I must agree with ninjanurse
  15. Tie better knots, or maybe your uniform isn't the right size, or maybe it is because of the lightweight material. A old training buddy of mine added velcro to his gi jacket in place of the ties. This was done so that in sparring, whenever he got his jacket grabbed, it was like a tear-away-jersey:D
  16. Give these folks a call. Maybe they can help you out or refer you to someone closer. USA Karate (206) 440-5533 1535 NE 177th St Shoreline, WA 98155 4.7 mi SE - Directions
  17. 1-on-1 time is great vs. a big group lesson for sure, but like SS stated, there are those disadvantages that will present itself. However, knowing what the disadvantages are, then hopefully you would be able to compensate for them. Just my 2 cents!
  18. I also like the 3/4 to 1/2 sleeve. That is why I get my gi top altered after maximum shrinkage. I recently bought a Shureido, but I'm keeping that on the back burner for now....would rather wear out my lesser value uniforms first
  19. I would imagine being hit by any part of a flying Sai would hurt like heck
  20. Jump in..and go for it!
  21. Here I am going through the forum....when much to my surprise, I see that I have been chosen member of the month I just wanna say thanks for the recognition I have learned plenty from all the members here and would like to thank them for their contributions over the years
  22. I use a combination, or configuration based on what I'm tryin' to hit or from where
  23. Books and videos make great supplemental aides to your training. Is it impossible to learn from them, probably not depending the depth of your own knowledge, but I wouldn't recommend it for the beginning student.
  24. Perhaps my regret would be not being able to advance further in my original style of Kenpo. Unfortunately, my original instructor went in for his military commitment, and his instructor went back into the military as well. Both are still in the military, and close to retirement, however neither one has had the time to continue training on a regular basis given the current world events.
