Thanks for the input! I like to look at these as "once in a lifetime" opportunities, and if I can make it happen then it's all good!!

Has anyone here had the opportunity to attend the training in Okinawa sponsored by the Okinawa Prefecture Karate Do Federation and Classical Fighting Arts Magazine? The next sponsored training trip is scheduled for April 2010. Sounds like a good deal with 5 full days of training with notable instructors. Anyway, if anyone has attended this particular training, would be great to hear some feedback. It is something I am looking to probably try and do down the road! Thanks....

Funny, I've been a long time customer with them, and never experienced this kind of customer service. That is too bad, and hopefully it was just a bad day for that person on the other end of the phone -
I sent 3 pairs of these back to my friends in Australia and they love them

Nin Tai is right about Satori Gi company. However I believe Sakura Martial Arts Supply carries Wakocu brand gi's.

Just FYI, the next time you are in the market for a BB, Eosin Panther does make a belt that isn't stiff like other normal manufacturers
-
Pacificshore, Did you get the Traditional Style or North American gi? Well since I got it custom made to my specs, it fits more like the traditional
-
If you wash it, you have to account for it shrinking Just twist it, roll it, bend it, etc....it'll soften in time
-
I have the Satori 12oz gi and find it just fine for my purposes. You probably can't go wrong with either, but like Bushido Man said, the heavier the better if you have some sort of grappling/throws involved in your art. By the way, my Satori is custom tailored and one of my best gi's ever

Heck, I remember buying KI Gi's made in Japan for $35.00 back in the day, now they are up to a minimum of $135.00.... Back then the choices were limited for uniforms, now there are so many different makers, some good, some bad. But it's whatever floats your boat nowadays

2 words....Custom tailored I had one made for me by Satori Gi sometime ago. All I did was get my measurements done and emailed them, and viola....one custom gi made to my specs

Hello, I recently special ordered a new BB for a friend of mine from Eosin Panther. They have excellent quality belts, and can put whatever it is you want on your belt. Usually like others have said its your art on one side, and your name on the other. How about instead of your instructor's name, you maybe think about something that best describes him or his martial arts persona? That is what I had done for my friend Hope this helps!

What would you do in this situation?
Pacificshore replied to savedbygrace's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Lil bit off topic, but Domestic Violence situations are the number one killer of Police Officers followed by the Traffic Stop. If those who are involved in a DV situation can turn in a heart beat on a Police Officer sent to help......what more if your a passing civilian stopping to assist. Like others have said...observe and call the Police if you think it is necessary. -
Grrr...what should i have done?

Maybe a lil over reacting. After all he was looking out for the best interest of your son. Perhaps his method in doing so was on the brash side, but he did apologize when you spoke to him about it. As for his training or understanding for his level, I say ignore him in that respect and go about your development, and when you pass your BB test, he will not have much room to speak -

Maybe it's your timing and distance that is off? Perhaps your more a counter fighter which means you need to be able to strike back as u defend. If there is a size difference then working on ur speed will most definitely be of use to you. The one thing about Shotokan is being known for their quick and poweful reverse punch and front kick.....take 2-3 tecniques you are good with and work them with a partner as you counter their attack. Good luck!

I was going to suggest that you go with a kata that is comensurate with your rank, but since all rank/kata may differ from system to system, I would say that if you are to perform a kata that is below your current rank that you are technically sound in performing said kata. It has been my experience here, at least in traditonal tournaments, that judges want to see you perform a kata equal to your rank. Just my 2cents

Nijushiho is prob my favorite, but have competed with Jitte and Gojushiho-sho.
