Palgue Forms (?)
younwhagrl replied to younwhagrl's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Palgue forms are nice! Grandmaster Han (the founder of Youn Wha Ryu) he helped choregraph the Palgue forms, which is a really neat thing! Very well choregraphed! I'm a huge forms geek also! I do forms like its a religion! LOL! Do you remember how it started? -
I've seen it done solar plex and head level

I drive about 5 minutes to the school where I train at, and I drive 20 minutes to teach, and then I used to drive 30 minutes to train at another school. I pay $35 a month! What part of Colorado do you live?

younwhagrl replied to Adonis's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Hi! You might be in luck! There is a Martial Arts school at Rolla UMR in the UM-Rolla Multipurpose Building Aerobics/Martial Arts Room. It is the system of Youn Wha Ryu, which is what I am in. The classes there are Mon, Tues, Thurs 8:30-9:30pm, as far as I know! Go by there and check it out or you can contact: Beau Ahrens: 573-426-3778 Email: bahrens@umr.edu Albert Kunz: 573-426-3235 Email: ark5x8@umr.edu GOOD LUCK! Let us know how it goes! -
Where do you advertise?????
younwhagrl replied to koreantiger81's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I opened at school about 3 weeks ago, and we had a open house, we passed out flyers, we had an article and a ad in the newspaper...and now we have 15 students with a goal of 25...so that all seemed to work pretty well! We are planning some demos in the near future! We are also looking into buisness cards, and pamplets! HTH! -
My instructor was telling us about that video a couple of weeks ago in class..I thought mmmk..he was telling us he had boards suspended on a punching bag...funny stuff...

I pay $35 a month, and I train two nights a week, in the school that I teach, our dues are $30 a month...in our organization we arn't after the money, we are there to teach, and make people martial artist, and not put a dent in their pocketbooks

Hey guys! Who here studies the Palgue forms? If so please reply back, and maybe you can answer my questions! Here they are: (Both of them back to do with Palgue form 1) In Palgue 8 on the hammer fist after the downblock on the first part of the form is your arm bent, or is it straight? 2) In Palgue 8 after the 2nd 45 degree strike, elbow strike, center block, and reverse punch, before the kicks you go into ready stance, then you turn sideways and kick..what is the purpose of turning sideways?

Thanks guys! Testing went really well, we had one test for Black and two test for brown! It was great! I'm not a fighter either, I've never liked the sparring part..ii'm pretty good at it..its just not my strong point..'ve always liked the forms and techniques too! We study the Palgue forms in the TKD part of our training, then once you get to 2nd red you go into name forms like Koreo & Basai! My favorite Palgue form has to be Palgue 8...it has a variety of stances and things that i like! again THANKS A TON!

To be truthful when I first started Martial Arts..I never thought I would stick around...beginning Martial Arts NEVER crossed my mind till one day my dad told me he worked with the Martial Arts instructor in town. So I went, but it has definitly changed me for the better! I have more confidence in everything. I used to be really shy, you wouldn't know that looking at me now. I've also gained friends that are like my family, that I can count on whenever I need them. Even if I ever quit Martial Arts (oh mercy..) I will still have the stuff I've learned from the self defense to the training principles (be polite, be patient, be alert, be brave, do your best, respect yourself and others) we've learned. Martial Arts has done a lot for me!

Insight on Double Promotion
younwhagrl replied to ItalianMuayThai's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I'm really undecided about double promotion..u know? our system does double promotion..i've seen people have it happen to them, and they weren't even really that good it mostly happens to white belts in our organizations..but yes i agree you should go through every belt, and every stripe just like everyone else! but then again in the same breath...if the person doing the testing believes you have what it takes to be double promoted, and your that good..then they do it..it's not fair but..they do it! I've even heard about people getting double promoted from 2nd degree blue belt up to 2nd degree red belt..which is really rare but it happens. Double promotion is a terrible thing to happen to anyone..added stress, that no one needs in learning new stuff! I've seen people quite due to double promotion...and most of them get big headed and think they are better than everyone, because they think they are that "good.." -
In our system of Youn Wha Ryu we have 9 degrees of black belt, because our Grandmaster (Grandmaster Han) didn't want to accept an honorable 10th dan..so he stayed a 9th dan.

Okie dokes! Thanks a lot!! That helped!!

Black Belt and Ages
younwhagrl replied to frightmaster's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
tkdBill..it is the same way in our organization..if ur 6 or 66..black belt is black belt! The BB kids I've seen are just as good, respectful, and can do whatever the adults can do...it's amazing! Age isn't a factor in our organization! -
fighting drills
younwhagrl replied to younwhagrl's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I'm not talking about 1-step fighting, but..I find that effective..but I was talking about fighting drills..where someone punches 4 times and you center block, push, center block push..then it's ur turn to punch and u punch four times then u center block, push, center block, push..there are tons of fighting drills like the one i described above, but with different motions of course
