  1. Well I am sorta the head instructor, of my school..i'm a girl! (i have another guy helping me, which is a lower rank than me) so I guess that makes me the head instructor...some of students that are guys...say UR A GIRL..well I proved them wrong...I'm one of the toughest "girls" in my MA school. The guys even say..PFFT..she's one of the guys!
  2. Work on your repition and speed of your blocks! Don't block slow..that's no good! Block Fast! Also in kicking..some people ask..well why am I always getting hit or..why can't I ever land a kick in?....too slow! When the count comes in kicking kick as fast as you can then get back to fighting stance. Act like that count is an attack.
  3. Well guys let me tell you about what this same guy did tonight! I was under the impression that he quit..well we got there and he was standing by the door, and we were talking to him, and of course he went into saying he wanted to spar or whatever, and then me and another instructor was talking about our Grandmaster and this guy was like ooh I wanna spar him so bad..and we were like..WHAT? and we were telling him it's not very smart to say that and things...this guy is getting on my nerves
  4. I am certainly not the dancing type, oo how i dislike dances..I'm not even going to homecoming or prom this year..i dun care about it..now i might go to my sr. prom..just b/c but not my junior!
  5. Hey guys! I am a Junior in HS and I plan on majoring in Journalism in college..does anyone know where there is a good college that has a good Journalism major there?? Thanks in advance!
  6. Yes the forms I am doing right now are tough, and make me VERY exahausted if I do them right..they have tons of techniques in them, and are very powerful..so yes they are tough.
  7. AMEN!! As you read by my post..I am def a different person!
  8. Yes, ninjanurse, commitment is all I'm looking for..when people go to pay me and their two weeks free is not up..I tell them no..do not pay me yet until you've bene in class for your free time of two weeks..see how you like the class in the two weeks then pay me. HAHA! It's funny you say that b/c in instructor course this weekend we were talking about we have to get them motivated by counting really loud and it will make the students work harder..and my the instructor was like now don't be drill sergeants but...DO YELL LOUD..lol! Thanks again for all the input guys!
  9. Well...I have class on Monday and Thursday and I teach Tuesday and Friday and my only off night is tonight is the only night I have off..well I do this thing in our system called the 300 club where you do your top 3 forms 300 times (total of 900 forms) and I practice my 3 highest forms 5 times each..I do more if needed, and then I practice all my kicks and that gives me about 3-4 hours of training...FUN STUFF!
  10. Does anyone have step by step self defense techniques? In the Youn Wha system there are 54 self defense techniques. Youn Wha Self Defense was createdby Grand Master Han in the late 1980's. Initially for the Dallas Police Department. It is a unified system of self defense that incorporates techniques and movements from many different Martial Arts systems. Techniques 1-40 covermany different types of attacks from simple wrist and arm grab sto dealing with chokes and headlocks and onto punches, kicks and even weapon attacks. Anyone have this? Just curious.
  11. In our school there isn't a door..its a fitness center type thing..and 2 we don't have contracts...we believe they have the freedom to leave if they want and quit paying..we dont believe in tying people up to a contract and making them pay, we really aren't in it for the money as much as teaching the art to the students.
  12. Thanks! Today in instructors course we had tons of people telling how it changed there life and it was just amazing!
  13. We are soon going to be sharing ours with, not another martial art, but an aerobics class
  14. I train in Youn Wha Ryu and our belt colors are ->>> WHITE-YELLOW-GREEN-BLUE-RED(me)-BROWN-BLACK! We have 2 degrees of each belt expcept for brown which has none and black which has 9.
  15. Well in our system after we test for black belt they just tie a black belt around your waist with not stripe..you have test for dans..does that make sense?
  16. We had to give speeches today in instructors course today, and here is mine: Martial Arts has changed my life more in the year I have been in it, than anyone or anything has in the 16 years I have been in this world. Before Martial Arts, I was very close minded and shy. My dad came home one day telling me that, he works with the Martial Arts instructor here in town. I was like pfft..Martial Arts..and why would someone want to do something like that? I had no idea what Martial Arts was..and to tell you the truth..i didnt care either, and was surely not interested in it at all. I decided to go because I wanted to be in the Air Force, and..that was the main reason that actually got me into Martial Arts. I went to first class..not knowing a soul, and I thought it was a bunch of hoo-hah. As class progressed, and I had no clue what I was doing, and didnt know the significance of all this was, I just knew I was enjoying it, and everyone was...NICE and CARING..nothing I have experienced in activities prior to Martial Arts. Activities, such as cheerleading, had no respect for anyone but theirselves..if even that..but I got to see..this was different, and I quit cheerleading. After a few months in class..I broke out of my shell, and I was not shy anymore, and I had more confidence, and I felt accepted by others for the first time in my life. Outside of Martial Arts, I could tell a huge difference in my self, and and I was a totally different person. If it wasn't for the fact that I walked through those doors to go into my first class in Martial Arts, I would have not have had what I have today...such as the abudance of friends I have..I don't have enough fingers and toes to count all the close friends (my 2nd family) I have gained in Martial Arts. Before Martial Arts..I was practically friendless. If it wasn't because of Martial Arts...I would have never overcame fears that I have in the last year. If it wasn't because of Martial Arts..I would have never got to experience my first passing out. I've did more in Martial Arts than I ever would have in a lifetime if I would not have started this great thing! It has taught me to be more polite, patient, alert, brave, it has encouraged me to do my best, and have respect for everyone. I am doing stuff in Martial Arts..I thought were impossible or and stuff I had no idea they existed...now I've learned nothing is impossible if you have a mind set that you can. So I guess the moral of this story is as simple as never judge a book by its cover, unless you've read it, or know something about it. I hope Martial Arts has impacted your life as much as it has mine.
  17. I train in Youn Wha Ryu and we have 10 black belts (seven bb, one 1st dan, one 2nd dan, and one 3rd dan)
  18. Yeah the school I train at...we are train out of Fitness gym so they clean up for us...but the place I teach at..we have our own building so we have students come in and help out with cleaning, and it's a really great thing to have! We don't have carpet as of yet but the students help out mopping the floor and cleaning windows and things, it's fun to come an hour and a hlf early to clean and talk. We have been talking about opening the bigger part of our school, we have two halves one is bigger than the other, well..it has door that connects both and our students say that they will help us with that in any way they can!
  19. Thanks guys!! I really appreciate the input! Well the guy I was telling you about, quit due to his grades were getting low. Then his best friend is in class, and the guy that was running his mouth again went on about sparring, and saying I am coming back when you guys spar..and the guy that helps me teach was like yeah...u can come back but you are watching, you can't participate in sparring if you haven't been in class, because it's not all about fighting in this class. The guy was like well I just wanna spar him once, talking about his friend. Thanks again!
  20. I have two stories/concerns to tell you about, that I want an instructor's opinion on, I got my instructor's opinion on what he would do in the first situation, but I would like more opinion, in other ways of dealing with such. First situation. In class last night we had a girl that got hurt in soccer practice, she fell a couple of times on the soccer ball or something, well, she got through kicks pretty well, and I could tell she was in pain, well she started crying, and I knew she wasn't faking it, well my instructor told her to go sit down, because she was hurt..well her mom came in and told the girl to go get back in class because if you don't, we are never coming back here. The girl was in pain, but yet her mom told her to get back in class by threatning her. Well my instructor told her to take it easy and make it through one more form, well she did than he had all the white belts sit down, and let the higher ranks do there forms. By telling all the white belts to sit down there was nothing the mom could do about it. What would you do in a situation like this? Second thing. In my class we have this guy that claims he knows all about fighting and the only reason he takes our class is because he wants to get better at fighting, and he always brags about it, and we think the only reason he is doing martial arts is to beat up people. Our whole class talks about how they want to spar all the time, so they can get in a fight. Tonight in class we were showing him a technique and he said well why can't we do it this way? or this way? and he says he never likes what we do in class...such as forms, i understand forms aren't for everyone..but still. BTW he has never trained before in a martial art, he watches wrestling. Again what would you do? Thanks for any input! It is all appreciated. Even if you tell me that it's nothing to worry about.
  21. Yeah..that's just the style I am in...we have over 1000 black belts now in our system.
  22. I dont think it matters who u train under...everyone has something to teach u
  23. Sounds like yall's instructors course is laid back just like ours, there is playtime..and yet there is seriousness..do u guys have breaks every hour? We get 5 minute breaks every hour, and 15 minutes for lunch at the 3 hour mark (half way). We finish up instructors course this coming weekend..starting with Blue Belt..FUN..lol!
  24. I've never been in ATA myself, and I do not want to start anything about it, but I have an aquaitance that has been in ATA and he got to his green belt, and wanted to do weapons so he signed a contract for training and weapons which was $100 a month, well they never taught him weapons, they just did training, and he never paid the $100 because he was not getting what he was supposed to be paid for, so they took him to court and he quit. Not downing ATA, but that is not very fair at all. There is an ATA school in the area that I train in, and it is a very successful school.
