  3. Well at instructors course there was a TON of talking and yeah im usually saying "NOT AGAIN" or im thinking about wat im gonna eat after class..or my forms or something for our school or anything! My instructor when he talks in class i cant help but pay attention he quizzes us! LOL!
  4. Sometimes when i walk into places that have door ways i have the urge to bow and have before! i bowed to someone i think it was my teacher the other day lol! and i have this habit of saying yes ma'am and yes sir to EVERYONE and in school the teacher will ask a question that is yes or no and everyone will be like yeah w/e and i'll be like yes ma'am/sir...people look at me funny! i guess im so used to it b/c not only do we learn politeness in MA but i say yes sir to my instructor ALL THE TIME
  5. Well I train in Youn Wha Ryu and I train two days a week, for two hours (1 hour classes) and class usually goes like this: Class always begins and ends with meditation 1. stretching (including breathing, power building excercise, sit ups and push ups) 2. kicks 3. basic technique 4. forms then if we have time we do One Step fighting/Three step fighting, fighting techniques, and self defense
  6. I did put our school logo and i put a silhoutte (sp?) of a kicking person
  7. Here are some books I recommend you guys read: A Book of Five Rings written by: Miyamoto Musashi and Zen in the Martial Arts written by: Joe Hyams Anyone else have any MA book recommendations???
  8. Yep tournaments in my eyes aren't about winning or losing it is about the experience and meeting new friends...who cares if you get a trophy, medal or ribbon..just dust collectors! It's lasting frienships and bonds you make with people that last! HAVE FUN!! I am going to my 4th tournament on Oct 29!
  9. Good stories! I've never ripped my gi pants..i hope that never happens..that'd be embarrasing! LOL! I have three more stories to tell ya! THe first two are again about Grandmaster Han. Back in Korea as a part of his training he would always sneak on trains and not pay for the ticket and he made it clear that he didnt pay and made sure he got seen by the guards, and the guards would chase him...well it was like a 10 mile ride into town where he trained and when he got there he would jump of the train, and the guards would always try to catch him, he said sometimes they caught me sometimes they didnt. Sometimes he would let them...well one day he got on the train and gave the train conductor some money, and the conductor was like well what is this for? Grandmaster Han said oh...i sneak on train everyday as part of my training..here is your money. (So he wasn't just sneaking on it b/c he didnt have money..it was part of his training) The condcutor was like no no..keep your money...u trained the guards very well!! I thought that was a good story! Also another one about GMH: When Grandmaster Han first moved to America he moved to Dallas, TX. Him and his wife got married, and they really didnt have any money. Well one day Grandmaster Han told his wife..u go away over the weekend, and I'll find a way to get us money. Well his wife went away for the weekend, and Grandmaster Han went into this Army base, where most new Grandmaster Han very good, well he went into this Army base gym..where they taught 4 different types of Martial Arts (Judo, Hapkido, TKD, and something else) They each had 120 students to each instructor..well Grandmaster Han went right in the middle of this gym and started doing his Youn Wha techniques..and everyone started crowding around him wanting to know what he was doing he simple said Youn Wha, and explained to them what each instructor was giving in each Martial Art you can get it here in Youn Wha Ryu...well soon Grandmaster Han had 300 students as opposed to the others with 20 students. My instructor's instructor asked Grandmaster Han if the other instructors tried to jump him, and he was like "Oh...they not stupid..they know me." So basically this story is saying that the World Youn Wha Ryu Association was formed over the weekend and it is now in 12 different states across the US. Also here is a personal story of mine: It was the opening house of my martial arts school, and well I was picking on my instructor and he got me in a Chinese Choke Hold and well it took like 5 seconds and I barely felt any pressure so I didn't tap..and I passed out! Now it is an ongoing joke in our schools between my instructor and another guy....we say to each other..YOU BETTER TAP! its funny!
  10. Palgue forms, until 2nd red which is my rank then we go into names that are still TKD forms then until brown belt we dont do TKD forms as much we do Shaolin Temple forms, Kun Fu forms, Japanese Karate forms, and Youn Wha original forms
  11. I was thinking today about something my instructor says also...is "Don't think..JUST DO"..i love that phrase! b/c im a huge thinker and i think alot even in MA and its not good..and so he tells me JUST DO all the time..
  12. Hey guys! STORY TIME..lol! anyway...share with us some interesting stories that your instructor has told you OOR stories you can tell us that happened to you in your experience through MA! Here is mine that my instructor told us about Grandmaster Han: As you guys probably know quarters double as throwing stars/ninja star..whichever you wanna call them. Well anyway...Grandmaster Han was in a restaurant one day, and there was this really rude obnoxious guy making all kinds of noice, and it was bother Grandmaster Han. Well he asked the waitress to asked the guy if he would keep it down a bit, and well the waitress went over there and the guy said no i can talk if i want to and do whatever i want...well the guy didn't stop..so Grandmaster Han politely went over to the guy and asked him to please be quiet you are distrubing me and everyone else in the room, well the guys again said NO! and i imagine he said a few choice words at him, and Grandmaster Han went back and sat at his table and the guy continued with being rude and obnoxious..well Grandmaster Han reached in his pocket and pulled out a quarter and as the guy went to go take a drink Grandmaster Han threw the quarter right at his drink and his glass shattered and the guy scared to death got up and left! Now if you have any stories! Share yours!
  13. Yep...i am such a forms geek so forms are fun for me..so i really enjoy em!! Sometimes when I'm really not feeling all that great on my forms I do basic form 1 all the way to Koreo from (my highest form) which is 13 forms continuously...and sometimes i do form-a-thon which you go from basic 1 all the way to your highest form..then back down from your highest form to your lowest form with out stopping..which is REALLY fun and extremely tiring like ur about to pass out tired..lol! and as far as kick goes..I really work on jump kicks because mine aren't that great and practice makes perfect so im getting them better!
  14. Well...we are doing a raffle anyway for a free month at the community event.
  15. These are hilarious! I think you shouldnt say to your instructor: "These forms are stupid, I don't see the point!" and telling the person (a lower rank) warming up class... "You can skip sit ups and push ups..." ..and then the instructor walks in and catches you doing it...lets just say we signed our death certificates saying that...
  16. Well I think it took me wow..i dun remember but I knew when I first started i had no balance at all..i think i started noticing it at around green or blue belt well i guess i learned balance the fun way...we play a game in class where you have to balance on one foot and and throw a ball around to people and say the training principles also what i do is a pull my knee up as high it will go and see how long i can hold it..then i switch feet... then i get in all my kick positions and hold them... w/o using a wall or a chair..at first when i started doing kicks in balancing we used the wall now our instructor said we cant use anything not even to set up the kick position and a side note on the kick positions..w/o letting my foot touch the ground for more challenge i turn my kicks in different directions... and after i have all of the above in position i close my eyes which makes it more challenging, and see how long i can hold it before hoping around...we usually have contests in class who can stay balanced the longest balance is really important!
  17. Well the thing we are participating in is a community octoberfest and we have a booth set up and we are going to be passing out flyers from the booth telling about the martial art...maybe i shouldve worded that different..

  21. Hey guys! I am making small flyers for an upcoming thing we are doing in the community and i was wondering what you would include on a SMALL flyer. I have the name the school, location, class times, instructors, and the website..anything else you think i should add or take away? THANKS!
  22. Well...we have around 17-20 students....we grew REALLY fast at first and u know good things dont last...we had some quit because of grades and some quit because of other things they wanted to do. Our average class is not very big at all...sometimes we have a HUGE class others we have a small class..i'm not complaining our bills are getting paid and everything so we def aren't struggling and we aren't very small considering we've been opened for 2 months.
  23. Well the grandmaster of our system everytime at testing after he gives us a motivation speech he goes "OK! Testing time, look straight ahead" at every test he says this..it never ever fails! He's Korean and it's great to hear him say that. and as for my instructor i cant think of anything he says all the time
  24. haha nicknames...LOL! um..well i have a few Jaynay (just b/c my friends are dorks) Bubbles (once again..my friends are dorks) i dun think i have any martial arts related..i wish i did that'd be pretty cool!
