Already use whey (very satisfied, too). It seems some people swear by glutamine as something as necessary as protein for an athelete. Others say it's useless. I wish Aodan would stop by...

I need to...

Don't even try it. -
Is it a worthwhile suplement or not?

Because movies are always SO accurate about everything else...

I really look forward to my post-workout recovery shakes. Here's a good gain recipe I use right now (You may have to experiment to find something that suits your taste): About 5 ice cubes 1 Banana (cut into like 8 pieces) 4 Tablespoons of peanut butter (Use NATURAL PEANUT BUTTER ONLY!) 1 Scoop chocolate whey protein About 1/3-1/2 cup lowfat (preferably fat-free) cottage cheese. <1 cup of milk You can add a few spoonfuls of yogurt for sweetness if you want (again, use only natural yogurt {Yoplait and many other common brand are filled with preservatives and HFC})

Uniform Question
UseoForce replied to Charlie's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I don't think they make double any more because of low demand. I think they only make single weave and Gold. Gold is supposedly very strong but light. However, my single weave has never failed me, plus it's light. I can't really justify spending more when I am so satisfied with my single weave. -
Buy "The Fighter's Body" by Loren Christianson. He breaks nutrition for a martial artist down very nicely.

A possibly dumb question about sumo wrestling
UseoForce replied to bigpopparob2000's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I bet sumo wrestling would be pretty sweet if they had weight classes and clothes. -
Abs. They're not HUGE and ripped, but I have better abdominal strength and endurance than anyone I know.
-
No offense Orion, but I'd be thrilled if you made much progress with that workout. I train abs every other day in this manner: 1x50 V-sits (For me, the hardest crunch-like excersise there is) 1x60-80 Crunches with rotation 1:00 of an isometric excersise (leg lifts, planks, etc) 1x20 Good Mornings with a 25lb plate 1x100 crunches holding a 25lb plate 1x25 Full sit-ups with a 25lb plate (I don't do many because they are hard on the back) 1x25 Full-body sit-ups I cycle through the whole thing (except the V-sits) at least 3 times, with other excersises, like flutter kicks, excersise ball stuff, and rotational drills. thrown in. I'm having a problem, though. I work my abs hard but I am never even sore. Can anyone help bring intensity to my ab excersises?

Why does one eat meat or animal products? There are many reasons why people choose a vegetarian/vegan diet. The health benefits are tremendous provided you do it right. It is great to feel good everyday-no highfat hangovers or sugar crashes! People eat meat because it is full of important nutrients. I don't understand the question. It you are following any good diet-vegetarian or not-you shouldn't have "high fat hangovers" or "sugar crashes." So what makes people want to exclude meat from their diets?

BJJ Alone
UseoForce replied to Cuong Nhu Fury's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Personally, I think reading about BJJ, thinking about BJJ, and running and weightlifting are the best ways to improve your BJJ game on your own. You do have to roll with a live partner, though. -
Just out of curiosity, why does one become a vegetarian/vegan?

I have an Atama, love it. BTW, aren't mizuno gi's 200-400 bucks? -
Try ordering online

There was a time when I could not do a pull-up. Two things I did: 1. Lose weight. It is not really that hard once you decide you really want to and get your priorities in line. 2. Keep working other excersises to develop strength. Curls for biceps (for hands facing you) and lat pulldowns for the hands facing away kind. I can do sets of 10 of each kind, and can do a single set of a few more now. Don't give up!

Your synapse of hapkido is pretty good. Basically the grappling techniques of tradition Japanese Jiu-jitsu and Aikido plus Korean striking techniques. It's pretty sweet. Combat Hapkido is a bit of a different animal. Our striking resembles kickboxing, and our grappling includes not only Japanese Jiu-jitsu but BJJ, a bit of wrestling and some other stuff. Plus, we do Wing Chun style trapping and Filipino weapons. Check out ichf.com for more info on combat hapkido.

Guys giving in to ladies??
UseoForce replied to Kasumi27's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Heather, guys are stronger than women. It's not sexist, it's not even negative, it's just biology. Can strength training help offset this disadvantage? Sure, to a point. -
I was in Alaska not long ago, beautiful...BTW how does one train in "bush Alaska?"
-
that's true. I work in a different world though - beale street. think of bourbon street, but on a smaller scale. On any given saturday during the spring and summer, there may be 700 to 1,000 people walking on the street, and hundreds of others in the clubs. Also, Like I've said in other threads, intimidation is a beautiful thing. We use them for crowd control. When you see four, big muscular dudes and all of them have a steel baton, even groups of ten will think twice and settle down (it's happened before) I see what you're saying.

the average stun gun is WAY over rated. I wouldn't rely on them for self defense. Not a stun gun, I agree, but a Taser is second only to a firearm IMO.
