  1. Just like to note that I know a lot of cops (grew up in a LE family) and any that I've ever asked say they've never used their batons (as a weapon)
  2. This unfortunately is not the case anymore in the UFC. I doubt Royce will have time to rest and wait on the ground. As if they didnt already stand fighters up fast enough, the very defensive style of Royce will only encourage the ref to stand them up as the uneducated spectators boo the ground game. I didn't say he'll necessarily wait, though if Big John is refereeing I am certain that Royce will be given ample time to plan his attack and keep an eye out for opportunities. He'll still have more time to rest on the ground than on foot, so I believe a ground game favors Gracie. With respect, Sohan John McCarthy is one of the worst refs that the UFC has. He always stops fights prematurely and stands fighters up way too often and way too quick. Mario Yamasaki should be the ref for this match. McCarthy rocks, have you ever spoke with someone who fought under him? They really respect him.
  3. I'm generalizing. Of course there will be exceptions.
  4. good. Now try it with a resiting partner...
  5. There was a thread a couple months ago about this...
  6. Very, very good. I haven't always agreed with you before, but this, I like .
  7. lol, fall back when an RNC is on? That is exactly what I'd want you to do if I was the one doing the choking.
  8. Traditional weapons aren't practical, unless you do carry a bo staff to work every day.... That doesn't mean weapons training is impractical. What about guns, knives, or sticks?
  9. Must have been kickboxing?
  10. First of all, there are 827 different kinds of "choke holds" so you should be more specific. Striking to break any good hold has not proven to be very effective. You don't see it much in MMA, and when you do, it generally doesn't. Eye gouging and grion grabbing may work, but remember, you only have about 5 seconds if it is a tight blood choke. Plus, if I am behind you, I can easily defend both of these vulnerable targets.
  11. I do Combat Hapkido, which has many of the same or similar technqiues as jiu-jitsu.
  12. for general health for an active person.
  13. Which sweetners (frutose, glucose, high fructose corn syrup, Splenda, etc...) are best and which are worst?
  14. Most semi-autos have a light recoil.I don't think you can make that generalization. A .308 or 30-06 semi-auto will have plenty of kick, especially for the inexperienced. As for handguns, .45's, .40 cals, & even a hot 9mm round will have plenty of kick. A shorter barrel or lighter gun will make it worse for handguns.Handguns are a separate issue. Perhaps I mis-spoke. A .308 or .30-06 auto will still have plenty of recoil, but noticably less than a bolt action version of the same caliber. And obviously there are other factors: weight, barrel length, porting...
  15. There's nothing wrong with making your own style after 1 year or five years, provided your style continues to evolve as you learn and you don't isolate yourself from instruction or training partners.
  16. It wasn't until I was in the Army did I first fire a rifle. Not knowing what to expect I was surprised at how little of a kick a M16A2 has. Most semi-autos have a light recoil.
  17. Aren't aikido techniques inherently "big" compared to Japanese Jiu-jitsu (i.e. hapkido) techniques? (circles vs. arcs?)I like my Japanese Jiu-jitsu/aikido style techniques, but I have to say, in a real fight, I'd trust my kickboxing/BJJ skills. I would never exclude JJJ or aikido style technqiues because I know a handful that are really good and I have no trouble applying against a resisting partner. However, I gotta trust what I've used most in sparring.
  18. I wouldn't run the boston marathon off of ANY martial arts training.
  19. A difference of training methodology more than anything
  20. Sorry, I'm not even going to pretend I have a strategy against Sapp in the ring/cage. In the street, well, there are so many variables. Maybe I have a weapon. Maybe he does. Maybe he brought buddies. Maybe I brought an army...
  21. Eveyone should know how to operate a firearm. If not for self-defense, at least for outright safety! That tricky disarm you just pulled off means nothing if you accidently shoot yourself after taking the gun.
  22. I don't think UFC rules allow for huge weight differences. Unless they found someone near Sapp's size to put him up against, I don't think he can fight in the UFC.
