Oh, he's certainly beatable. He's probaly not even top 10 in pride, and the UFC's top heavyweights would probably be able to take him. But (excluding weapons) unless we have a load of UFC and Pride fighters lurking the boards, I feel pretty safe saying no one here could take Sapp. Seriously, do you think he would care if you kicked him in the knee or bit him? He'd swat you away like a fly.

Karate + [?]
UseoForce replied to Whitefeather's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Judo, BJJ, submission grappling, freestyle/greco wrestling, catch wrestling, and all MMA-type styles will provide you with a thrilling and productive grappling experience. -
I bet he's quicker in a dead run than he looks, being former NFL and all. Excluding weapons? Well, against really big guys I'm most comfortable working from the guard, but with Sapp's GandP plus his size (over twice mine) I'm pretty much screwed no matter what I do. I seriously doubt there is a single person on these forums who could last more than a minute against Sapp.

Yes, modern fencing does not use rapiers, but they foil and epee are closer to rapiers than anything else. Historiacal fencing (thearma.org) is where it's at.

BJJ + Judo = crazy grapplier?
UseoForce replied to ChinoXL's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
IMO, grappling is a necessary skill agianst multiple opponents. First of all, grappling training can help prevent you from being taken down. Second, if you can restrain one opponent with grappling skills, he can be used as a barrier or just quickly put out of comission. Except for a clean right to the jaw (which may or may not be accpetable depending on the circumstances) there's nothing like a good throw to buy you a little time. Having said that, going to the ground against multiples is really bad. Furthermore, I'd probably strike until my opponents closed with me and forced me to grapple. But as we see in MMA, it is very hard to avoid a clinch, so grappling skills are a must. -
I agree with elbows. Instead of working out 1 specific muscle group per day, I have 2 push days, 2 pull days, and a leg day. Each push and pull day has different emphasis than the respective push or pull day before it.

I think it would be helpful to newbs and experienced guys alike if we all discussed what supplement we take and why. I'd rather this was less of a discussion and more of y'all just telling the forum what you take and why. For me, Protein: 100% Whey after workouts, usually in a smoothie (Add a banana, milk, ice). In theorey, the sugars in the banana help get the protein to your muscles faster than if it was juast the protein alone. Plus, it tastes good, gives you some vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Multivitamin: I pop one in the morning. I don't change the way I eat because I take the vitamin (I still eat the healthiest and most balanced diet I can), but it is just a cheap way to make sure all bases are covered. Acai: I use it occaisionally, don't really feel strongly one way or another about it. I dunno, it tastes good. A relative bought it for me, I'm still using that stuff.

lol, I hate distance running, yeah, if I ran 30+ minutes, I'd probably separate my running and cardio by a few hours.

Greatest Martial Arts Commercial Ever!

I actually used that in a street fight. Don't knock it just because you don't understand it. -
I find that if I run first, then get some water and take 5, I am usually able to lift pretty well. But that's just me. Also, my runs are short and hard. A mile in about 5:30. Also, I have 2 pull days and 2 push dyas per week. One day, usually the day I run, is more for endurance and the the other day is more for explosive power and fewer reps. I'm more than open to opinions on this issue.

BJJ + Judo = crazy grapplier?
UseoForce replied to ChinoXL's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
You believe wrestling is superior to Judo? Wrestling is great for no-gi. Judo is better for gi. There is also plenty of overlap between techniques (hip throws, fireman's carry, etc) -

a bad name for martial arts.
UseoForce replied to Son Goku the monkeyking's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
A lot of Bruce Lee's training would be characterized as "sport." Sport is good for training. Pretty much every martial art that has a sport form (boxing included) also has a "street" form. -

MMA fighter = Combination of boxing, muay thai, and BJJ. Which are ALL sports. So what are you saying? You can argue semantics till the cows come home. Boxers train hard, fight hard, and hit hard. THEY are martial artists in my book. -
Do Filipino Martial Arts favor joint locks to strikes?
UseoForce replied to Mtal's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
There are many Filipino MA, each with a somewhat different philosophy about joint locking. -

A lot of people here seem to be comparing boxing to "martial arts." Boxing IS a martial art. -
Question about Martial Arts with a lot of joint locks?
UseoForce replied to Mtal's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
With a lot of traditional jiu-jitsu style locks, you trade reliability for control and effectiveness. Japanses Jiu-jitsu (and many hapkido) locks are easy to pull off on newbs and people who have never seen the particular lock before. On the other hand, I can use other techniques, like a BJJ armbar from the guard against anyone with any skill level (well, not ANY skill level, but you get my point.) -
Sparring Situation: What would you do?
UseoForce replied to EarthElement's topic in Health and Fitness
I guess for feints or something, but a feint only works if the opponent fears the actual technique. ? -
Sparring Situation: What would you do?
UseoForce replied to EarthElement's topic in Health and Fitness
If trained properly, this shouldn't even be a problem. Getting your leg grabbed means you didn't properly execute your kick. Guess what thats means...train harder or train more. The reason why you dont see these kicks often in MMA is because of he way they train, I'm not saying its wrong. But the way they kick gets power in, but it also leaves alot of room for getting their leg grabbed. You make it sound like throwing a powerful kick is a bad thing. If I can't throw it full blast, why would I use the kick at all?
