Whoa, let me see: 1. I'm not taking protein to develope explosive power. I'm taking it to help my muscles recover after a workout. If I am going to be stong and explosive, my muscles cannot be weak, tired, and in a state of recovery. 2. I don't drink pop either, haven't for about a year. All it is is sugar! 3. I have my ply's and other explosive excersies laid out, I need no help there. I'd still like to hear more replys .

Chuck is a purple belt as of at least a year or two ago, and his entire game has evolved as well. -
Big Guys
UseoForce replied to TheAnimal's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I don't have much problem with the completely unskilled big guys, but once they get the basics down they are tough, even if you have more skill than the big guy. -

cool...except I wasn't using it as profanity. Why are we so concerned about offending people? Geez.

Their goal is to get HUGE, mine is to get strong and explosive.

I usually don't like getting info from bodybuilder forums because their goals are much different than a martial artist or athelete's.

why is there a star where I typed "cock." There really isn't another good word for it.

Chuck Liddell's KO power
UseoForce replied to UseoForce's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Actually, I differ from the popular opinion that taking Liddell to the ground is the answer. IF-IF-IF one manages to get Chuck down and still be in one piece, then you have to deal with an experienced BJJer and NCAA Division A wrestler. Chuck doesn't like going to ground because he has a EXCELLENT stand-up game. THIS DOES NOT EQUATE TO HIM HAVING A WEAK GROUND GAME! Let me reiterate: Just because a fighter is good at stand up does not mean he is weak grappler. All it means is that he PREFERs to stand. Chuck's ground game is probably great; Look at it this way: On a scale of 1-10, Chuck's stand-up is probably a 9. That doesn't mean his ground is a 2! In fact, I bet it is 7+. -
Hitman- My issue is even if you do get to the guy before he can draw, and even if you do land a couple shots or take him down, he only has to hit you ONCE and you're in serious trouble. It's not like "I (the unarmed guy) got to you before you could draw so I win." Even if he hits the pavement, he can still shoot you. Furthermore, if this thug is intent on killing you his weapon will probably be drawn and at the ready. However, if the thug is only using the weapon (or threat of, if it is not visible) as a form of intimidation, the unarmed guy would stand a reasonable chance, I agree with you there. And yes, lack of skill with firearms could help greatly. He might even forget to cock the hammer or take off the safety. I probably was assuming a bit much there . My point is that against one who is skilled with firearmes and wants you dead, you have very little chance. It DOES NOT mean you should give up, it is only a recognition of reality.

Yeah, he was proving a point, not assaulting me. And it was through my 14oz uniform, if that matters... -

Yes, obviously it works, what I meant is that it is unorthodox. -

I think this is my first Chinese Art Thread! I'm looking for a combat-oreinted Wing Chun DVD, can you help? -
All good points, except for a couple things: 1. The odds of an unarmed individual coming out on top against a fire-equipped individual are so negligable that they aren't even really worth mentioning. The only exception is if the unarmed individual manages to put the armed man out of commision before the armed man is aware of his presence. Good luck justifying that... 2. Speculating on what a jury will rule is just that: Speculation. It isn't worth examining except at the most basic levels. You should look at means, oppurtunity, intent, and the use of force (hehe) scale. That's the best you can do. Beyond that, everything is up to judge, jury, and lawyers. I won't choose my weapons (or lack there-of) based on what I think I jury will sympathize with. Also, some reality-based martial artists (myself included) tend to over-play the whole "survive the legal battle thing." If you actually read the data, most people who injure or kill an assailant in REAL SELF-DEFENSE (NOT EGO FIGHT) are granted complete clemency.

Need plenty of help

Well, I'm not going to do this particular tournament (My no-gi game needs more work, IMO) but I still appreciate the tips. I am down to 156 and I'm as strong as ever. I'd aprreciate any further advice. BTW, I don't think I'll use creatine at this point. Certainly not without talking to my doctor. Good 'ol whey for me. Works miracles, as far as I'm concerned. -
none of them are pratical. Handguns and knives are practical.

thanks for that last post, hitman, very good

How DOES he do it?! His technique looks so sloppy, so casual, but they just drop, without fail, when he hits 'em? I think a big part is the angle that Chuck catches his opponents with. He manages to come in from the side which works the guy's jaw around, its hard to explain, I don't know... What do you think?

Like most people, I take a whey protein supplement after I work out to promote muscle growth and recovery. I usually put it in a smootie of ice, skim milk, a banana, and a table spoon of peanut butter. I lift weights or strength train 5 days a week. I was wondering, should I take some whey on the days I don't strength train? I'm still active on these days (They are usually days I have hapkido class), but not to the point that I'm dead tired and exerted like on a strength training day? Thanks.
