Hwarangdo for self-defense?
Goju_boi replied to tkd2000's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
well I wouldn't go as far to say that girls with knowledge of fighting or martial arts is rare, but enough of that topic. Well when I was in high school I saw a street fight between two guys one was a untrained street fighter that was just full of anger and rage, the other guy was a calm muscular guy that really didn't want to fight him.Well the street fighter kept insulting him calling him african and what not , so they got into it.The street fighter was just wildly swinging at him the other guy just kept doing nothing but midlevel round kicks.I'm just guessing he did tkd being that he only kicked. After a while the streetfighter became frustrated and realized he was going to lose and just left. -

I agree on your comment on mirko cro cop, but I do think that other styles besides muay thai are good for the octagon -
your styles strengths and weakness's
Goju_boi replied to Son Goku the monkeyking's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I would say for goju ryu the strength are: great striking and kicking, great blocks, great joint locks, and great stances weaknesses:no weapons, lack of ground fighting, and maybe more -
northern shaolin is one of the most popluar styles of kung fu made up of emty handed and weapons techniques. Unlike other styles this one has no formal rankings of belts and sashes, also the uniforms are very different(orange or grey monk robes).Like other chinese styles it is very circular and graceful in motion.Northern shaolin compared to the southern styles of kung fu emphazizes high kicks instead of low kicks. Also besides shaolin training there is qi gong which is a type of meditation to better ones health physically as well as mentally,qi gong also helps harden the body for combat. as in iron body training which calluses your body up the body so you can take more hits and when u hit somebody it will have a stronger effect.Great flexiblity is a must in this style of kung fu,but don't worry if u train in norhtern shaolin u will get really flexible trust me.As for strengths I would say its great for striking and very great also for weaopons and their vast variety of them. Also that in keeps u in a very good state of health. One more thing it's also very good at presure point attacks. As for weaknesses I would say no grappling

well a friend of mine goes to northern shaolin school and on saturdays nights its pretty much a fight club. Because anybody that wants to spar comes in with their gear or borrows some and pretty much just have good times fighing, and it's not just people from their school,it's from other schools and styles ,as well as inexperienced street fighters.

Best Karate movie

If your talking about the Karate Kid movie, the style is "Goju Ryu". Mr. Miyagi is supposed to be a descendent of the founder of Goju Ryu, Chojun Miyagi. In the second movie, Miyagi's old friend/enemy, Sato, actually wears a Goju Ryu patch. ahhhhhhhhh, I feel like such a dummy! And I just recently saw part 2. No wonder that I recognized that on Sato and his nephew -

why do you say that the women weren't knowledgeable? There are women that are as knowledgeable as men if not more when it comes to fighting or martial arts -
"It may be wise for you to step back and 'look.' Actually 'look' at their relationship. Is there one, or are they merely two people who happen to share the same roof, and the same kids?,"I think their lives are looking like this quite frequently ,but sometimes it's not. And I really don't know how this could help me grow beacuse I've never been in a serious relationship,so I don't know if this could help me improve.

I agree with you on the hapkido, and as for the other comment I think the tkd people might get offended being that a lot of people aren't too fond of it,although I agree with what the koreans said about the arts of their country -
my first job was with my dad delivering apliances for $20 a dat from early in the morning to late night. The good thing though was the tips and that he paid for my food.

well i think if kung fu were to prosper,I think that san da/san shou would be the best for the ufc -
well elbows_and_knees I'm not saying kung fu looks identical to karate but like I mentioned they have their similarities, especially my style.Goju Ryu is the most chinese influenced style of karate practiced. As for thai coming from kung fu.i wouldnt deny it,because if you look at san shou/san da thay have a lot of similarities.
