One time, I was supposed to get up at 4 am for this really important trip. I guess I was excited about the trip because I woke up at PRECISELY 4 am...I literally sat straight up in my bed, looked at my alarm clock (which I had set the night before) and watched it go from 3:59 to 4:00. The funny part was, even though I had set the alarm, it didn't go off! My alarm was not ringing...I woke up on my own. I even checked to make sure that it was set up right .... on AM and not PM, volume turned up, alarm turned on...all systems were apparently go. It was very strange indeed.

AAAAHHHHHH CYTOSINE GUANINE ADENINE AND URACILLL..... ack I don't want to be reminded of Biology Kansho would be a seriously cool name for the fish...but I like the superhero idea, too! Who knows, I might even name him Joe Fish...(and that has nothing to do with Joe Boxer, either) Wait, that's it!!!! "The Incredible Joe Kansho" or "Joe Kansho" or "Joe" for short It combines everything I wanted...superhero, Joe and Japanese! Keep 'em coming though and I might just rename the thing.

Kama/kusarigama are my favorite weapon! I've found them to be pretty intuitive and natural feeling. I feel like I could do some pretty hefty damage with a real, sharp pair But boy do they hurt when you drop them on your toes

I'm pretty sure Cartoon Network started showing Thundercats reruns recently.

From the list, it was a tough call between Transformers and Voltron. I don't really remember many episodes of Voltron though, so I'll have to go with Transformers. Of all time, my favorite cartoon is TMNT, definitely! Does anyone remember the Transformer toys? I used to get sooooo angry because I couldn't get the toy to go from a truck to a robot .... well, I was only 4 years old. I also remember trying to figure out the words to the theme song. "Robots in da eye", "Robots in the skies"...my brother and I went through several translations until we finally figured out (or maybe someone told us) that it was "Robots in disguise"! *sigh* Good times...

Hmm...I guess I'm lucky the fish has a 14-day guarantee, then! I'm completely serious...my fish has a 2-week warranty!!

Geez I never knew so many Geo-like cars existed! You gotta love Mini Coopers though...not more than the '66 Shelby Cobra (my dream car, silver with blue racing stripes...although the black is utter beauty) of course

Thanks for all your suggestions (I really like the Japanese names)! Keep 'em coming, this is just for fun! Martial_Artist: oops, can't believe I forgot to list what kind of fish he is! Thanks for reminding me He's a Male Betta Fish, mainly blue with red highlights on his fins.

OK everyone!! I need your help!! I got a fish yesterday and it needs a name! I'll probably end up naming it something off-the-wall when my brother comes home, but what would you suggest? Go wild!

Belt status, on and off the KF

Congrats on your blue belt, Ken! That's too bad about your Survivor Title though...it was pretty nifty -
Even though my location SAYS I'm in the "Middle-of-Nowhere" my old Sensei wasn't like that He was pretty laid back. Our dojo was colorful...red white and blue painted everywhere whenever the Sensei got bored.

Christians and the Martial Arts

Nice article, Ken! I really like your writing style...sort of laid-back and easygoing. That's always been my view, too. As far as fighting goes, I look at it like this: by "punching and hitting" others, I am learning to defend the most precious gift God has given me: my life. Who knows, someday it may save someone else's life, too. Good job! -
I'm going to move this to the Weapons forum. It sounds like you're just starting out with the nunchaku, in which case you'll probably want some foam ones. Century sells foam nunchaku for about $5. Those are great to start out with because they're light, fast, and punishment-free. I suggest starting out with cord, and then progressing to chain as you build your skills. Ikon (NAPMA's company) sells some foam "sparring" chuks....don't get those! The foam is dense and hurts like crazy! When it comes to progressing to the wooden chuks, it depends on what you want to do with them. Performance in katas? In that case you'll want light competition chuks which can run you about $60 a pair. Which is utterly ridiculous...one of the moms at our dojo was pretty handy with wood and made some nice ones for $20 a pair! If you want to do more traditional forms with them, or use them as an actual weapon, you'll want heavier wooden ones.

Welcome to the forums! Ya gotta love Ginsu Knives G95: Yup the other intro post was removed since this one was here.

If you are naturally flexible, it's generally because you don't have a lot of muscle to constrict movement. With proper training though, you should be able to have the best of both worlds: flexibility and strength. I'll move this to the Health, Training and Fitness forum, where people more educated on these matters than myself can help you

Being nervous is perfectly natural. Personally, I found it made me compete better! My yells were louder and my strikes were stronger in my forms. In sparring, my techniques were faster. Just don't let your nervousness overtake you. Tell yourself that YOU are in control and nothing (especially not your own nerves!) will stand in your way! That works for some people

Ha ha nice try...

I tried to read the IQ guidelines but the link didn't work. After my "real" one, I did a "fake" one that was worth $3 million!!
