  1. Wait a minute....so what math are you stuck doing this year? 'Cause I thought you were supposed to take Algebra 2 LAST year but they screwed that up too and you got stuck in Algebra 1. Oh and by the way, if I went to your school, I would run far, far away from home
  2. I haven't really decided where I stand on this issue yet, but I will say this: Why would Kobe, someone with as huge of a status as himself, rich and famous, all that good stuff...there are plenty of girls with nothing better to do than fawn all over basketball players. He could most certainly get "some" without having to force a girl into it. And Tibby: In the girl's defense, not EVERY woman on the face of the planet is after men for their money. There are a few of us left with morals and such. It wouldn't be inconceivable for her to refuse him.
  3. Student-to-student dating isn't AS BAD as student-to-instructor dating. I think in a few cases it could work, because nobody in the relationship is holding an authority position over the other one. I've seen relationships come and go within the dojo and everyone seems able to move on. I still wouldn't encourage it, though.
  4. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!! Sorry, but I can speak from experience here...I've had several students of mine ask me out, confess feelings for me, etc...it's NOT A GOOD IDEA! I always had a personal policy of not dating anyone I taught directly (it wasn't something the head instructor really enforced or anything). So when my students would ask me out, I'd have to turn them down. Your instructor may have a policy like this, so asking her out would be futile. You'll end up embarassing yourself, and classes will be awkward for both of you for a little while. I always tried to treat them the same, but it was difficult...I felt really guilty and they were always looking mopey and upset. Even if your instructor doesn't have a policy against dating her own students: would you really want to date her? Consider this: while you're dating, are you going to continue to learn from her? Will you expect special treatment? Will she be awkward around you? Will sparring her be difficult? What if you fall in love and the relationship ends? You'll still see each other at every class. What if YOU end up breaking HER heart? Remember, she's the higher ranking belt, and she could seriously abuse you if necessary! Personally, I don't think it would be a healthy relationship for either of you, simply based on my experience with the situation. I never dated any of my students, because my mom and I had a long discussion about it, and decided it was a bad idea. But then again, maybe everything will go perfectly between you two, you'll be together for the rest of your lives and live happily ever after I'm just telling you my experience.
  5. My Bulk Mail folder just got bombarded with 20 e-mails from people I don't know, all trying to get me to download a file. I figured it was a virus so I googled it, and sure enough, it is. Check out this site for more information: http://it.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/security_info/ve_detail.php?VName=WORM_SOBIG.F I figured since I was being attacked with this, other people might get hit too. Due to the nature of the virus, you won't be infected as long as you DON'T DOWNLOAD THE ATTACHED FILE!! Happy surfing
  6. Not only are there thousands of existing martial arts styles, new ones are constantly being created!
  7. aaaahhh that's sick!! ...and actually kind of sad, too
  8. Welcome to the forums!
  9. Eek! I just found out that my school will probably be putting me in a bunch of AP courses....
  10. Well...yeah I never got the whole "destroy the world" thing, either. Destroy world = destroy self. No good. I guess they're banking on the whole "if I can't enjoy life, nobody will" thing. Whatever.
  11. The best cartoons are the old ones
  12. Yeah I used to argue heavily with one of my best friends (who is obsessed with superman) about who's better: superman or spiderman. Of course he would say superman so I'd say spiderman just to set him off.
  13. I was reading my school's "blue book" (student handbook/rulebook) today, and some of the rules made me laugh .... not because I think they're silly rules, but because I imagine someone must have broken them in order for them to be placed in print so prominently. For example, there's a rule about ball throwing in the buildings, and at the end it says: "throwing snowballs in the vicinity of buildings or carrying snow into buildings is forbidden." That just makes me think...has this always been a written rule, or did it go without saying for awhile, until some troublemakers decided to have an indoor snowball fight... It's sort of like when my dojo buds and I would go to the local Pizza Hut on a weekend afternoon...we'd get rowdy and have paper football fights with the paper placemats, spitball fights with the paper napkins, etc...we'd always clean up after ourselves and none of the restaurant staff ever complained, so we just kept on doing it every time we went there. Also, we were usually the only people in the Pizza Hut at the time. Suddenly, however, changes were made in the restaurant. Paper placemats were a thing of the past, and the waitress delayed giving you silverware and napkins until the pizza came! It's really funny to know that we were responsible for that. I guess Pizza Hut never complained to us because there were 8-15 of us at a time giving them business.
  14. Superman really did have all the best powers...flight, speed, man of steel, laser vision, cold breath...he had it all! About the only thing he couldn't do was any kind of mind control/telekinesis. But Superman is already taken (plus I'm a girl so I'll pick a ...uh..superhero-ess..yeah). So, I'll pick Storm. She could fly using wind and that's all I really need, right? Plus she could bring up a thunderstorm and zap her enemies with lightning. Mostly, though, I'd probably just end up using my powers to end droughts, give snow days to the highest bidding little rich kids, stuff like that
  15. I never really got to be uke much because I was the smallest person in my class. Instead, I was usually the teacher making someone else my uke The few times that I WAS uke however, it was pretty fun. It's interesting to feel a new technique done to you for the first time by someone who knows how to do it. It's just not the same when you're with your partner who's struggling to remember. For certain techniques, however, I could see where it would be a little difficult. If the instructor is doing a technique behind your back, you have no idea how he's doing it because you can't see. Sure, you can feel what s/he's doing to some extent, but you can't really tell about hand placement/body position, etc. You just hope really hard that your partner understands what's being taught!
  16. Suuuure...that's exactly what an audacious spy like yourself would say!!
  17. Welcome to the forums!
  18. I have it but I don't play it much. I prefer Tekken and DOA (most girls are offended by the "bounce"...I think it's funny ). To me, Virtua Fighter 4 has slow, counterintuitive controls. The controls of Tekken, Street Fighter and DOA are much smoother and easier for me to pick up. If I can't pick up a fighting game and figure it out in a little while, I'm not too pleased with it Plus, I just don't have the patience to build a fighter...if I'm going to dedicate that kind of time, it will be to an RPG, where I'm at least rewarded with a semi-interesting story. I was actually surprised by Virtua Fighter 4's controls. When I was 8 I played the original Virtua Fighter at the arcade and OWNED. I mean, I was creaming every teenage boy that came to challenge me! So, I guess I felt a little...well...betrayed that I didn't have the same response with VF4
  19. I honestly didn't even know a blackout had happened until a day or two ago when it was mentioned on the news...I need to keep updated with current events! Anyway, my area hasn't had any blackouts (other than from the recent storms we've had). Hopefully that's the way it will stay.
  20. Welcome to the forums! Congratulations on your orange belt
  21. Yeah I guess I should share I just found out on Thursday that I'll be going to my local prep school...I applied in June thinking I'd get in the 2004-2005 school year, but an extreme stroke of luck came my way! Because I'm coming in so late, I really don't know what courses I'm taking, but I have an idea. My 11th grade year should look something like this: Chemistry 1 Math 30 English 30/Creative Writing History of some sort Spanish 10 Health Religion (?) Theatre (hopefully) Tennis or Volleyball...haven't decided yet. Oh and 11th grade isn't called "Junior" at my high school. Since it's a prep school, I'm an "Upper-Middler"... "Juniors" are actually the 9th graders! I'm excited about going, but a little nervous, too. I've been homeschooled my entire life, so this whole "classroom environment" thing is new for me. I'm afraid that I'll oversleep, forget where my classes are, or forget to do homework... But it's all good. My advisors will help me, and I know a few of the current students.
  22. Pepe Le Piu and the Cat!! I looooved those ones! From a very early age, these cartoons taught me the dangers of stinky, creepy boys
  23. Welcome to the forums! Good luck on your test
  24. So, who here is going back to school in the fall? College or High School? If the latter, what grade? What courses are you taking? Any sports/extracurricular activities? I want to hear all the lovely details
