Am I missing something? Is this one of those jokes that isn't supposed to make sense? If so, WWWHYYY must you do that to meeee?? I've had too many hours of school with teachers pounding concepts in my head. Basically what I'm saying is this: AM I BEING GRADED ON THIS JOKE??? TGIF

Okay, this has turned into a political discussion, so I'm closing the thread.

I believe there are some camps and weekend seminars that would be what you're looking for. They're sometimes referred to as "Universities" or "Martial Arts College"s. Living there on a long-term basis is where you start to find the cults, I would think.

The Neighborhood Watch program is a good example of this, I think. As far as I know, NW does not receive any kind of monetary reward for reporting crimes/catching criminals/helping the police. Their reward is knowing that their children are safe at night.

I knew a guy who did that for 2pac after he was killed. It's sad that someone died, but it's not like he knew him personally or anything. It's one thing to make a collage of memories for a best friend who has passed, but for a musician you didn't even know personally? That's rather pathetic IMO.

Really? 'Cause I couldn't understand a word he said... Seriously, though, I understand what you're saying. If you listen really hard, the lyrics are really good at times. They definitely opened up a whole new genre of music.

Isn't there a previously unreleased song on the Greatest Hits album? I can't remember. I like Nirvana...they have some cool songs, just like any other band that I like. I don't understand the people that worship Kurt Cobain, though. They treat him like some kind of god!

My personal pet peeve is when people just won't listen. Especially when we're trying to get something done...one person starts talking, then ten others join in, and then the rest of us have to wait for those people to shut up before we can move on with anything constructive. I really hate that.

I don't watch MTV. I like music, but strangely enough, the "Music Television Channel" doesn't show any.

If you want to see a funny, kind of corny MA movie, go see Jackie Chan's new one: The Medallion. Three warnings, though: 1. Lots of wires are used, which is totally uncharacteristic of Jackie. 2. The ending is very stupid, graphically. and here we go, what I always end up complaining about: 3. The girl's action scenes were terrible. I mean, terrible. Possibly worse than Jade/Bad Girl from Bulletproof Monk. Why can't someone find a female martial artist who can act, instead of an actress that learns to do a sidekick?? It's not like it's hard to do both well!!! *hint hint*

Anywhere my best friends and I happen to be.

SACRELIGE!!!!!!!!! HEATHEN!!!!!! Just kidding... And knowing your Star Trek characters/actors isn't creepy at all...in fact it's a good life skill. For the record, I can't stand X-Men Evolution or the new Spiderman on MTV. To me, they are terrible, terrible versions of the cartoons I loved so much as an eight-year-old. Y'know, the ones on Fox back in the early 90's. Those were the best The animation in these newer series lean far too close to anime. *shudders* In case you couldn't tell, I'm not a fan of anime. Notice I didn't say "I'm not a big fan". That's because I don't like any anime, at all.

That's interesting...you say he sounded like Jonathan Frakes, who played Commander Riker...actually, he was voiced by Michael Dorn, who played Worf on Star Trek. OK so I'm a Trekkie

Man...I've tripped over my gi pants before, I can't imagine what would happen if I wore hakama! In case you're wondering, I had the pantlegs rolled up and somehow caught my right big toe in the cuff of the left pantleg, after which I proceeded to fall flat on my face.

Yeah, one of my friends and I are seriously considering having a TMNT movie marathon pretty soon. Sano: all cartoons are going to share similar traits. As far as jokes being similar, well if they're targeted towards kids they're going to have similar themes, setup styles and possibly even "cartoon dialect". Cow & Chicken was very close to Ren & Stimpy...both of them focused on being disgusting, annoying and yet more disgusting. They basically had no plot from what I remember...I couldn't stand either of them. Fairly Oddparents, however, is about saving the world! They even have good morals and habits injected in there, such as the episode that Chris Kirkpatrick guest-starred in, when they were talking about clean shiny teeth. Plus, there's just something about a huge, Austrian fairy shouting "But I like scrambling the fairies!" There's probably lots and lots of cartoons we haven't mentioned yet (such as Garfield and Friends...one of my favorites when I was five), so if someone remembers, remind us, ok?

Ack!! I don't claim to be very knowledgeable when it comes to cars, but dang!

Oops...I'm a little late, but Welcome to the forums!

And you did what... laugh in their face? Not quite I was usually shocked so I just stood there stuttering for a little bit, until I managed to say "Sorry but I don't date students". Although, I will admit, some students/family of students were harder to turn down than others!!

Some people are natural teachers and will take to it immediately...so you can always hope for that Keep in mind: you're a brown belt, and unless you somehow managed to attain your rank while remaining completely oblivious to what's going on in class, you'll know a little bit of how to teach simply from what you've seen in your own classes. Also, you said you used to help out, so you have some experience in seeing things from a teacher's point of view. Since you're teaching with another person, he can be like your safety net...if your mind goes blank or you get a hefty case of nerves in front of class, he can come in and save you. Finally, just relax. If you concentrate on being a great teacher, you'll be uptight and impatient with the kids. Just concentrate on having fun, and creating excellent little martial artists out of these kids.

The Gracies
monkeygirl replied to Kumite988's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
The Gracies are pretty much the Gods of BJJ. I'll move this to the grappling forum so that you can learn more about them -
I've never seen True Lies from beginning to end, but what I have seen of it was very good. Very enjoyable movie

There's a newer cartoon on Nickelodeon "Fairly Oddparents"...I watched it with some kids I was babysitting and laughed my head off. That's one of my favorite cartoons now.
-
I forget why they like it so much. All I know is that they do.
