  1. Currently, Karate = Kara-te (in japanese) Kon sho tao (in Mandarin Chinese) Long time ago, it was To-te (in Japanee), or Tang-sho (in chinese) Which was translated to China Hand. However, Literally it doesn't mean China Hand, It's acutally mean Tang Hand. Tang is a dynasty in China, and it was the time that the Chinese culture was most flourished and first really spread to Japan and Okinawa. So most Japanese refer Tang as Chinese. Therefore Tang Hand, To-te has been translated to Chinese hand, and later on Japanese change it to Karat-te, to make it more Japanese. And yes, the kanji was changed from To-te to Karate te. So the interesting thing is. When you read Karate in chinese now, become Kon sho tao. And other interesting thing is, if you mention Kong sho tao to chinese, most people know, but if you mention Tang sho do, not many people know.
  2. dunno when it's going to release in US, but it will be release in Thailand sometime in OCT I think, and probably release in ASIA by end of the year. We American, usually are the slowest one to get to see good foreign films like this, thanks to Hollywood.
  3. Tony Jaa's new movie is this one: "tom-yum-goong" official site for trailer http://www.tomyumgoongmovie.com/html/trailer/index_e.asp
  4. basically, I think sparing help you develop reflexes, and I think it's helpful, but yes, it's really different than real fight. I also think people on the forum gave too much credit to UFC or mix martial art fighters.
  5. WOW, PBI, It's first time that I see a fellow Shindo Jinen Ryu practioner here. And that Ninho Karate do Ryu Bu Kai logo, I got one too. haha. Just want to say hi. Best karate movie?? hmm..... honestly, I dunno any recent made karate movies are good, but ONG BAK is must see.
  6. Chow-Yun Fat is not known as Martail Art actor, he was famous because of gangster shooting movie. Role in Crouching Tiger hidden dragon, and bullet Proof monks (one of worst martial art movie), does not define him as "Martial Art actor." Jackie Chan is Martial Art actor.
  7. Chow Yun-Fat??????? You are kidding right?? Anyone from Hong Kong can tell you that he knows almost nothing about Martial Art. However, he is a good actor, so he can act like he knows martial art.
  8. OH!!! hahahaha. Thanks for point that out.
  9. after you watching Ong bak, all other martial art movie seems fake. Ong Bak ruled, and Tony Jaa is the best.
  10. ?????? I don't get it. I think Sonny Chiba made some movie tribute to Oyama Sensei thou.
  11. Chinese name of movie "Fist of Fury" is Jin Wu Mun Chinese name of movie "Fist of legend" is Shin Jin Wu Mun, and shin means new, which pretty much tell you it's a remake. (If you know how to read chinese) They are acutally based on the same story, same character, however with a bit of twist to differentiate from each other. Just for your info, Jet Li is filming a new movie, and its about the story of that teacher who got posioned.
  12. ONG-BAK were already out in US, the problem is, they didn't advertised it. Just like how Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was release in US at first, however, Crounching Tiger and Hidden Dragon got lucky. It's actually kinda sux, that most people didn't get to See Ong-Bak in US, I would think it's the best martial art movie in our time. And if you have chance to see "the making of Ong Bak" it's a must see. It showed that Tony Jaa is a real deal, every moved he made can actually do damges, unlike some other martail art actor, all shows, no go.
  13. unleashed was finished filming at end of last year. Jet Li is working on a new movie now. I just watched Unleashed today. It's one of his better movie, fight scene is very real, however, not enough fight scene. I have feeling that the film was cut in many places when they bring it to US. What do you guys think????
  14. I actually ordered the ONG BAK VCD (not DVD) from yesasia.com. They very creditable. I got my VCD within a week after I order it. I got my Ong BAK DVD on my trip to Taiwan. The reason I bought DVD is, there are some deleted scene on VCD.
  15. hey, I am trying to find that too. However, from the trailer, I can tell couple stars in the scene are Korean stars, and one of them (I think he played Main character) is acutally pretty famous in Korea. Maybe just a Korean movies, with bunch rap sounds in the back ground.
  16. you can get ong bak, either from Asia or Europe, or those online order website from these two regions.
  17. YUP, but I heard they changed the name for US market.
  18. all i know is, Generally speaking, Shotokan 50% hand, 50 % leg. TKD 30% hand 70% leg. which is better?? depend on practitioner. Maybe you can play Tekken 4 or 5 on PS2, and use Jin (Karate) and Hwrang (TKD) against each other, and you decide which style is better.
  19. Jackie's movie after Rumble in The Bronx is awful too. I think his best movie is Project A.
  20. Tony Jaa, after watching his movie Ong Bak, I watched the making of the Ong Bak. This guy is soooo good, that other just can't compare. (well, maybe except Bruce and Jet Li.)
  21. Fist of legend will be his best movie so far. He has a new movie coming out (already released in Europe) called Unleash. Can't wait to see that.
  22. I think Tekken series are the best so far, especially Tekken 5. Soul Edge is good weapon art fighting game. Classic will be street fighter II. Miss those good old days.
  23. Hell yeah, Tony Jaa is the king now. He makes all others look like posing (except Bruce and Jet Li).
  24. That's Shindo Jinen Ryu (The style that I am currently trained) Annan, not Shito ryu.
