Thanks for all the replies, I really learn alot from you guys. HAHAHHAHA. I like this one

haha. I do know what to do for the real damage (like kick in the knee and stuffs) in a real fight. Thanks for the suggestion thou. However, let's just focus on the thrust kick, because I think it's good to know how we should use it against different type of opponent. I happend to find out it's kinda hard to use when against guys that are way heavier and has big belly. Ted T. Thanks, I think your suggestion is really good. I think 1st, maybe because I was restraining myself not to use the full power, so speed wise it's kinda slow down, and the snap effect is not there. 2ndly, I also think I was too deep into the target, so my leg couldn't extended to where I can relase the energy out. If others have more suggestion please fill in too. Thanks.

That Kiso Gedan sounds like the short version of Taikyuku shodan.

Ninja and Samurai are very very different. And I think the only real Ninja style you can learn in modern day is Bujin Ryu, which is combination of multiple styles and weapon arts of Iga. Koga, Fuma, and other styles were extinct. And most likely the only authentic place you can really learn the art is in Japan. I know there are some place in US teach the arts, but I doubt they are authentic enough. How long to learn it?? just like all martial arts, whole life. There are other info online, it's not hard to find with google and yahoo.

how do you guys do with thrust kick when you are kicking someone that weights alot more than you and has big belly. Think if you are thrust kicking a sumo wrestler. I was praticing my thrust kick, and find out it's kinda hard to really kick this type of guy with thrust kick. cuz I am able to kick them back like I was kicking somone about the same weight as I do or lighter than me, and it turns out I bounced back, and the kick become ineffective. Althought I didn't use the full power (it's just practice) but I can feel the impact is not right. Am I doing something wrong??? or that's normal????

hung ga
kzshin replied to jctkd's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
nope, most Chinese people won't know that hung gar means certain style of martial art. Because people who has the last name hung, when he/she talk about his/her family, he/she will say "we, hung gar......." as "we, Hung Familyl" remebered, Hung is a very common Chinese last name. Also, when you tell people Hung Kuen, people who doesn't speak Cantonese don't know what they is. -
I am waiting for my chance to go.

I think his name is Yamazaki. His dojo is in Anaheim, CA. which is 20 mintues away from My house. I currently study under another students of Yamzaki's.

kzshin replied to jctkd's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Oh I GET IT now, The Full name of the style is called, Hong Chia Chuang in Chinese, and in Cantonese it's called Hong Gar Kuen. Gar means family, so translated word by work is Hong Family Fist. Just to let you guys now, if you guys ever want to tell chinese what kinda martial you are learning, It's better to tell them you learn "hong Chuan" cuz when you tell them Hung Gar, basically you just tell them I am learn Hung Faimly. People will be what kinda martial art is that??? -

Okay, after I read the Chinese character of Hung Gar. There is something I want to clairified. According to the history chart from website that was provided by ealier post. Hung gar is originally based on Shiaoling Tiger/Crane style, no other animals. One thing I am confused is, I don't know why everyone here pronunced it as Hung Gar, cuz the first word pronumced Hong in chinese, but second work pronunced as chuan, which mean Fist. Dunno where that "Gar" came from. And even in Fukanese or Cantonese, fist doesn't pronuance "gar" Another thing, from the lineage chart, I see the founder of Tiger/Crane is Huang Fei Hong, or Won Fei Hong (in Cantonese), Jet Li play this character in a series of movies that got him famous in Asia. The movie title is Huang Fei hong, so you guys can rent it to watch if interest. -
Kicks above the waist in a real fight?
kzshin replied to longarm25's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I will only kick high if I am 100% sure that I am able to strike him and knock him down with it. -
Find a bigger crowbar and hit him back.

There won't be too much differences between Shindo Jinen Ryu and Shotokan before shodan. Basically, they won't teach you their specialty till you received your black belt. You mean Sensei Howard Highes??? Not only his karate is impressive, his Kenjitsu is amazing too.

IT does exist. And if you ever struk someone or by someone who is practationer of Chi kung, then you will know its true.

jujutsu influence on karate
kzshin replied to Dark Shogun's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I don't think Jujitsu has any influence on Karate. even there is, probably very very minor. Bushido and kendo does have alot of influence on Japanese karate (not pure Okinawan karate) regarding the mentaility, and mind. -
I agree with what Ali said. There are many secret art, only teach to their child, and sometime son only or eldest son only. and alot of time they will just teach you what looks cool, but not real deal. as old Chinese saying, They let you drink the soup but didn't let you eat the meat. However, it's very understandable sometime. One of the best reason that I have heard is, what if they teach a wrong person (person who likes to fight or don't control, or want to use it for crime) with the art, won't that cause society alot of problems. as for foreigner, I did heard that, cuz back in the time, cuz of language barrier, it's hard for them to konw what the person is thinking, which help them to justify is this person has the integrity or right mind for the art. remember martial art is a weapon, if it's in wrong person's hand it can cause alot of trouble.

Really Stupid Question
kzshin replied to scottnshelly's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
when you see a chinese guy, don't just assume he had trainning or knows Kung fu. Most of them can stand and give you a stance that makes them look like they were trained, but alot of time, they jsut learned that from movie or TV. Remeber, it's part of their culture. Just like most white guy or black guy can look like they really know how to BOX, even they have no boxing trainning at all. It's just part of the culture. (hope I didn't offend anyone) -
hmm... the origianl Drunken fist is Zui Ba Xian Quan. Zui Ba Xian is a famous martial artist, (I think he is taoist, but correct my if I am wrong). Anyway, he drinks alot in the legend, that's why he developed the drunken fist. However, I heard the real Drunken fist is already lost, so I don't think anyone is able to teach you this thing, maybe except Jackit Chan, but I doubt he learned the real one. Besides drunken fist from Zui Ba Xian, I dunno where did those came from, but I can assure you that most chinese never heard of drunken styles other from Zui Ba Xian, and I am sure most people never heard of drunken styles mix with animals or weapons.

Frog Style
kzshin replied to aefibird's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Honest, I have heard alot about Shaolin Kenpo from Chinese in Chinese (I do speak in chinese) , and honestly, never heard of frog style, scorpion sytles. The most popular that I have heard of from Shaolin are 18 Lo Han, I-chin.....etc. the only two animal styles I have heard from Shaolin are Tiger styles, and Dragon styles, never heard of others. It's hard to belived Buddhist monk will develop martial art based on scorpion or frog, which are life form that represent darkness in Chinese mythology. NO offense, but there are alot of styles out there are fictional. -
Any one study Shindo Jinen Ryu Karate here???
