  5. Hey Gang, I practice Yang Style and am interested in looking at or learning Chen Style and trying to pick it up via Video/DVD. Could anyone suggest some good DVD (prefferred) that show a good basic understanding of Chen style Tai Chi? Thanks for your help.
  6. I study Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan
  7. Weapons round out a Martial Artist, but don't count on them or on your fighting style/technique alone. Try to incorporate all angles and aspects of your art. This will make you well rounded in your art.
  8. Great post ben, welcome to KF
  9. I believe both answers can be correct. Some people are naturally persistant and are naturals when it comes to persevering to the end. Others may have had to cultivate or teach themselves to be patient and to press on and persevere until the end. To some it comes natually, others work a little harder at it. Both are correct and should be nurtured.
  10. try Zhan Zhuang training. Stand with your feet 1 1/2 shoulder widths apart, keep your butt tucked in, back straight, knees over your toes, headtop suspended, shoulders draped. and breathe deeply into your belly. then raise your hands up to shoulder level and hold your palms as if you are holding a ball. There are several different postures in which one can stand to aid in chi cultivation. as for being able to project chi and choot chi at people. Save it for the movies. Zhan Zhuang will not give you "force powers" but it will aid you in what you are looking to do. Be patient, it takes time to build up your Chi to high levels. (Try holding your pose for 1 hour, then let me know how you feel.) Keep practicing and let us know how you are doing. If we can help, let us know.
  11. For what it is worth, I would keep doing Zhan Zhuang as it will help you build up your internal energy and you will be able to Fa Jin much harder. Our grandmaster told us to practice Zhan Zhuang as usual, but to hold ones hands at a 90 degree angle from your sides (look like a robot with your forearms out) and hold that position, feeling the chi jump between hands. Grandmaster said this is the position to hold forever if one wants do develop powerful fajin techniques. good luck.
  12. it was real life action with people fighting and beating on each other. It was fantasy, but I liked it.
  13. you shouldn't have much trouble adjusting. Enjoy.
  14. Good ?
  15. When I purchased my first bench, it came with a little guide with some excersizes in it. Did yours come with that? If it didn't, go to your local bookstore and you can find a ton of books dealing with weight training. You can even find them with weight training for the martial arts. If all else fails, google it. Good luck.
  16. If you wanted to keep with the earth, fire, wind, and water theme, why don't you try a torch, a flag or weathervein, a glass or basin of water, and some potted plant for soil on the top of each pillar? This is just a suggestion.
  17. My uncle used to train in Aikido. He demonstrated a couple of techniques on me and they were quite painful. I would encourage you to try it out if you are interested.
  18. kotegashiNeo Try it for a few classes and see what you think. It would never hurt to experiment and try something new.
  19. elila, I would advise you to keep up the good work and not to worry about what the other girls in the class are doing. Your focus and dedication will pay off in big dividends in the long run. Mabey these other girls will see the benefits of working hard and will follow your good example. Don't worry about them. Keep doing what is right.
  20. I imagine it would be difficult due to them being more unpredictable than other styles, but is there really enough information here to determine who would win in a contest or fight? There are many variables that could help effect the outcome of this contest. This is just my opinion.
