Last night in my class, we were working on some new Kumite stuff. It wasn't fighting techniques, it was explosiveness techniques. This would mostly be understood by point sparrers. You are on the line, you bow (on your mark), yoi (get set), HAJIME (go). Then we worked on the explosive power in our legs to just rush 'em on the line. My question is, what type of training do you do that is not really Martial Arty in the sense that it is more like track and field training or what not.

In my style you have age limitations on your rank. 12-14 Shodan Ho, 15-17 Junior Black belt, 18-over Shodan. -

Geez you guys, I try to bring something to normal and someone comes up with the dirty jokes, you are lucky women's lib isn't watching. We would have our asses sued so fast... -
I think one of the coolest weapons was the multi crossbow in Gladiator, that thing is the coolest. I would actually prefer a wooden bo to anything. I have saved my life with lots of sticks and bo before.

I have never actually ever gotten a serious injury. I have seen people actually dislocate stuff, break stuff, rupture internal organs. It is really quite fascinating. -

Competitions
Karateka replied to Tobias_Reece's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I feel that competitions have a greater purpose than just for fighting. It serves as a way to get your dojo on the map, so to speak. It also gives you the opportunity to meet other people (like chicks). It shows you other people what you can do (like chicks). And it also lets you meet chicks (like chicks) . I also feel you can make friends, travel, and it can sometimes be a great stress reliever. Although sometimes you may go away with an injury, it is always a learning experience. -
stretching
Karateka replied to defenestration_girl's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
If you wanna stretch for kicks, the splits are great. also in a sitting position grabbing your feet while your legs are extended. The main thing is to keep looking at your feet therefore keeping your spine straight and bending from your hips not your back. -
Olympics In China
Karateka replied to MuayTB1's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Talks happen very peridoically with many world groups with the IOC. The question is how far do they go with them. -
You guys are nuts!

Won lots of championships with these types of techniques.

Most of you probably don't know him, Sensei Ron Bagley, he took Shotokan a long time ago then switched when his dojo folded. He studied a lot under Ticky Donovan and has won many championships. He taught me how to fight in a totally different light.

Spinning Kicks
Karateka replied to Angus's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Spinning kicks can gain momentum spinning in the air and getting extra strength while going down from gravity. It is an easy way to multiply force. -
Nice one, tell him to come by my place and see if he can pull that again.

Yes I have had the unfortunate experience to use my Martial Arts in real life situations, many a time. This has all happened when I was in the intermediate belt range, though. At that point I had all skill and I was willing to use it. Anyway, the point is to fight back without fighting.

Can't we all just get along? -
Exactly. The hard then soft way is for your body to give more power and then quickly go to the next technique.

Olympics In China
Karateka replied to MuayTB1's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Actually Rush, the WKF is talking with the IOC to get it in, without it being represented by a country. The talks are going well so far, so it looks like it may just be in 2008 or 2012, who knows? -
Karate doesn't include ground techniques because the art was designed to take down people who are face to face or on horseback. Karate was made in Okinawa because the Japanese who conquered them took away their rights to weapons. They created the unarmed combat method of Karate. Some of the kicks are good to disarm opponents and take them off horseback.

Everytime I try to talk about competitions and wait for a reply, how the hell does the topic drift so easily. Amazing, absolutely amazing. I think I'll write a book on it. -
I am eclectic. I listen to anything. EXCEPT COUNTRY. _________________ "If your efforts only help yourself, you are only doing half the job" RJ Wallia 2001 This Message was edited by: Patrick on Jul 15, 2001 2:15pm
