  1. I am fifteen years old. Right now I don't look really good but I am athletic and losing weight. Not all teens are out of shape. Just the ones you notice
  2. The people you have faught who you have kicked in the head, are losing the simplicity of the basics. They have been in awe of the superb techniques because they look cool. You should think that any technique you could do, could be defeated with basics.
  3. Have you ever studied a traditional Indian, Chinese, Japanese Martial Art. The application of the technique, the power, the location are all components of it. That is how these techniques are deadly. Think about it this way. When you hit your funny bone ever so slightly, your arm goes numb. That is because there is a nerve there. Now, the Ancients knew this. They knew how the central nervous system reacted to certain stimulus. That is how with the right technique, you could kill someone. That is what I am trying to say. I know that this may sound a little hostile. I have no disrespect for your views. It is just when I argue, I play for keeps.
  4. Why can you not believe that a person with a mental deficiancy is on a higher plain of thought. True it may lead to violent behaviour but what I meant by a different plain was just of a different way of thinking. He may very well be a person who is violent, but could just think on different plains. To think that our plain of existence is the only true plain is not only arrogant but taken from perspective. I find it amazing how we drifted from the Martial Arts to something so complex as the human mind. With our limited knowledge of the human brain, this topic will never end. We would be like Aristotle and the Greeks pondering for eternity. Perhaps, we can try to figure out what we have all thought in common and then realise what we can gather from that which can support or refute any other theory's. Although I like debates, I feel that this one serves no purpose other than to fuel a conflict. It is with that, that I wish to pose this question. Is there a similarity among violent people that is based on their social output, environment, or lack of role model? I await your reply's ladies and gentlemen
  5. If we had sportsman start dropping on the mat dead, we would not have a sport. That is why we do not contact. Any Martial Art blow can kill. These ancient techniques were used to kill people. If we just started randomly killing eachother, there would be no one left to fight. True you would be a champion, but who would join such a brutal sport. He may have called it glorified tag, but if he wanted people to die, he would not get any students for his style.
  6. Mental disablities are caused by our lack of understanding of the human brain and our lack of using its true potential. Perhaps those who we think have mental deficiancies are those who are just thinking differently than we are. They maybe in a higher state of evolution than we are. No one ever considers that. However, back to my question. I personally think that we may not survive without any sort of violence or conflict unless we somehow get rid of wants. All conflict is created through wants. If we wish to get rid of wants, then and only then will there be no conflict. Sadly, I do not think that this could ever be done. I believe this because of the fact that if we give up wants, then we give up the "want" to live. To give up that would give up life. There are people(the ones who created Star Trek) who would think that we can work in peace to better ourselves. Yet in that whole series, we see conflict with other races. The Buddhists believe the same thing. To atain enlightenment, we must give up wants. Wants goes towards grief. Desire towards sorrow. Thats what I think. We can never get rid of conflict and violence. True that we may think of violence as physical and the future may think of it as something else, there will always be conflict and violence unless all wants are diminished away. Maybe that will occur with technology, but only time will tell.
  7. All tournaments are going to use those rules in 2002. Basically you have 1 point, 2 point, and 3 point techniques for Kumite. There are no more half points, new colours, and there are new ways to get three points that they allow. You can go to http://www.wkf.net and search for the new rules or you can go to http://bibsan.com/wkfrulesENG.zip to download them in english. If you read them, give me your thoughts. _________________ "In Kumite, there are two techniques; one is to stop him, the other's to drop him!" 8. If anyone knows anything about the World Karate Federation (WKF), they know that they have dirastically changed the rules of Kumite. I was wondering what anyone who knows of these rules thinks about it.
  9. Really Thaiboxerken? I have been in both Karate and Kickboxing. I can tell you there are far worse injuries in Karate than kickboxing. In kickboxing you have impact injuries. In Karate you have broken bones, dislocations, injuries that take months even years to heal. Since you are a thai boxer, I respect your style for what it is worth. I still believe that Karate Kumite is still better. My opinion of course.
  10. I forgot all about Michelle! She is the bomb, and she ain't a bad looker either. To Angus, Bruce Lee did not like traditional Karate. He also did not like Kumite on its glorified tag. He constantly put down the sport.
  11. To all the Kumite'rs out there, I myself love Kumite very much. I also realise the importance of Kata. I have been in many situations in real life where I have done moves in Kata. Most of Kumite comes from Katas. I don't know if any of you do Bunkai, or the application of the techniques, but they may help you to better understand what the hell the katas are actually doing. Talk about it with your class. BTW Kumite rules. I personally prefer Kumite all the way.
  12. Yes he used to be in Shotokan Karate but switched to another dojo when his dojo disbanded. He was quite a famous champion in the UK. He moved to Vancouver Canada and is teaching my dojo and his head coach for the BC Team.
  13. I think everyone has heard of Bruce Lee and his style one way or another. If any of you have ever read any of his books. then you realise that he showed little respect for Karate tournaments. He felt that they were just glorified games of tag. He thought that the Martial Artists in the West did not have the true teachings in the East. I did not agree with these facts. Although we do not know what the ancients knew, I still think that anyone from the West is just as qualified as the East. As for the tournaments, that may well be. It is glorified tag...where people get injured for months on end. As for his style, good idea. It is very practical to real life.
  14. It is true that a discussion such as this is a long and lengthy one. We all seem to agree on the same thing. War can be used to show human evolution. That much is certain. Now I pose another question relating to this. Should we then discourage violence or encourage evolution? Think hard. I await any reply.
  15. I have been in Martial Arts for 6 years. I started out in Kickboxing. My teacher didn't see any potential in me and gave up on me. I left his teaching and took up Shito Ryu Karate. At first I was very cocky and started to show it. My sensei then proceeded to kick my ass in front of the class. I was severly humbled. He took me to the side and said that I have what it takes to be a champion. I just have to listen and learn. So, I listened and learned and LIVED karate. I went to two tournaments and failed miserably. I went to the Vancouver title tournament and won it. I am now Vancouver Champion. I owe it all to my Sensei, my Sempai, my parents and everyone who helped out. I don't give it to my friends because they never believed in my abilities. So, screw them, LIVE karate, and have fun.
  16. Quite true, but the efforts that we have seen from the truly grim side of war has led us in many peaceful directions. Look at the Holocaust in WWII. That has led many Human Rights efforts and changes in the law. That one incident has led us to change the entire face of the future. It is amazing that if this never happened, more things would have taken a longer time to achieve. That is what I look forward to from the war's. A war may be a mistake, its the cleaning up that makes me wonder.
  17. Thanks for all our input. I've seen people at tournaments just throw people for no reason, and the judges just stand there. That is what sucks!
  18. I was just wondering if you have been to any competitions (Karate wise) and could share any thing interesting that may have happened. Thanks Ossshhhssss
  19. Warfare has been a facination of mine as well. Not because of how it shaped the world. I was interested to how you can see the actual personality of the person who was fighting it. The British always faught in the traditional style because they felt they could not be beaten at it. The Romans always did line because they looked better. The Indians never faught anyone outside their country. The Japanese had everything to do with honour. That is what I look for. Warfare has changed the face of the world, but I think more can be done if we can find out the cure for cancer or aids or the code for cold fusion, then a weapon that will eventually kill us all. "I do not know what World War Three will be faught with, but I do know that World War Four will be faught with sticks and stones!" Albert Einstein Peace everyone, ARIGATO GO JI MASTA
  20. Even with controlled anger, I have felt, you lose some focus. Your energy is being directed to partially control something else. You lose concentration and you lose the fight. Again, I haven't been to a lot of tournaments but I am into fighting and am the better in my dojo. My Sensei is a fighter so I have learned a lot from him. If any of your techniques work, Great, maybe I can try them out. I am just saying that I have faught better when I am calm and don't care whether I win or not.
  21. I work on push ups and sit ups. I do very little weight training because all the strength I ever got was from Karate. There are some katas like Sanchiin which, if done properly, can make you work a lot of muscles; quads, hamstrings, calfs, obliques, abs, pecs, deltoids, brain, etc. Keep working
  22. Spinning kicks are good to learn. They are only good for a) Competition(with control) and b) if your real life opponant is on the ground. If the guy is standing up and you try the spinning kick, there is a good change you will miss and fall. If he has just been stopped by one of your punches, then you can drop him with the kick. It is your call Peace Man
  23. Look for what the art can do for you and what you can do for it. A style may look bad, but you can change it to anything you want. That is why they are called arts.
  24. Hey everyone. I am new at Karate Forums. I live in North Vancouver, BC Canada. I have been in Martial Arts for 6 years. I spent 4 years in Kickboxing and then switched to Traditional Karate. I now take Shito Ryu Seikokai at the age of 15 as a brown belt. I am under the tutallidge of Sensei Ron Bagley 5th dan. He is more to me then a sensei. He is more like a father. He has helped me become a better person. His assistant, Michelle Sempai, has been an excellent person to me since I joined. She has helped me in everything I do. Together, these are the best Kumite fighters I have ever seen in my life. I have not seen Sempai Michelle lose a fight yet. Sensei Ron has been the BC Champ, Canada champ, U.K. Champ, Shito Ryu Champ, European Bronze medalist, BC Team Head Coach and the best person I have ever met. Although I am new to the site, I feel that I have a lot to offer and you have a lot to offer me. I look forward to the opportunity in knowing you all. If anyone would like to reach me personally, you can email me. I would like to now what you all think about weight loss. I am currently over weight for my age and am trying to lose weight. I know that it will take that much to make me a better fighter in Kumite. If any of you have any advice you could give I would greatly appreciate it. Oni Gi Ji Mass. RJ Wallia the Vancouver Fighting Champion
