McDojos and TKD
Nick_UKWC replied to senna_trem's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
We have 5 grading levels, no belts and no fees for testing. Our annual fee is £40 and our monthly fee is £30. We have a class of 10 and a Sifu with 10+ years of experience learning directly from Master Sinclair. Pretty lucky I think -
well...grats Matt

How many belts are there before black? -
I do the abs section from the scrapper gym workout 1 every other day and my abs are visable (though not ripped ) after just a few weeks. I do have pretty much no body fat though.

Wham. There you are, just as bad as every man that's ever made you mad by claiming it doesn't hurt women or such like.

I'd so lose count before 1000 lol I live at the top of a hill so I think I'm going to start running up and down that, I reckon it's about 1.5 miles round trip - far enough to make a difference? At the moment I am by far the least fit person in our class in terms of cardio. Actually no, that other guy had to go out side to avoid puking during the warmup yesterday. At the moment I am by far the second least fit person in our class...lol

I have, and I'm not the greatest anything lol

Yeah I'd try and back off till I saw an arm 'flail' in a way I liked and then take it. Don't think this would be to much to worry about unless he was massivly bigger than you and/or you had no room to move. Especially if he had his eyes shut lol. -
Could anyone explain why you do this? not knocking it! (to many 'weird' things about Wing Chun to even consider it lol) but I would really like to know the idea behind it

Kung Fu
Nick_UKWC replied to Scand's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I've been learning Wing Chun for just over a year and I love it. It's challenging, rewarding and great fun. The attributes you use will develope as you train and you can take this out of the kwoon as well if you have the time or inclination. I can't say Wing Chun is acrobatic or particularly 'showy' but then this wasn't really what I was looking for. -

Does it matter where your instructor grew up?
Nick_UKWC replied to SloMo's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Coming from a rough area might make you a tougher fighter but it doesn't make you a better teacher. If you're a good teacher then yes this helps, but if you're a lousy teacher who cares what you know, you never impart it to anyone else. -
To strike or to grapple
Nick_UKWC replied to Vito's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I assumed someone would assume that Lets just say, everywhere I've seen grappling applied, they end up on the floor. I wonder how many posts this has got left in it before it disolves into your bog standard grappling vs striking riot. -
damn, that's some seriously hardcore str33t applicable uber l33t too lethal for competition right there!

To strike or to grapple
Nick_UKWC replied to Vito's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Since we're talking hypothetically if I had to be very good at one it would be striking. Would rather end a real fight standing than on the floor. -
Hung Gar Demo
Nick_UKWC replied to Ali's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Some of the first vid looks a very little like the start of the forms, perhaps some Bui Gi (spelling) and a little of the circling hands we see some times. I don't think I'd call it a parallel though. Don't know about the WC pole form so can't comment on the second vid. -
He wasn't being defensive he was being polite as you know Other than that I do agree with DM on the whole. To learn WC Chi Sau you would have to learn all about at least the 3 things he mentioned. When they are used, how they flow, the practice to use them well. As he he say's, you're half way in to the Sui Nim Tao by then. [Edit] Btw I started it after about a year of training.
