  1. They are very low quality clips, but Gun - Third Party Protection looked like actually pulled the gun away from the guy then hit him in the face with it. I don't really know if this is what it looked like, or really how that should be applied but going from that video alone I do have the worry that pulling a gun towards a trigger finger has the same effect as, well, pulling the trigger...
  2. As a few people have said, Hits 1&2 and knockouts are a good laugh Hits 1 has some of the really old school classic stuff, very entertaining
  3. Yeah seen it a few times. Like it for the bit with the dog in the boot*. Glad to see you're just having some fun, was worried this would turn out like the Chi fireballs guy on the other thread... *That's 'trunk' to people in the USofA
  4. Something we talked about over at MAP a little while ago was the response to a straight, centerline punch. There were quite a few replies and personally it's something I find straight forward to deal with. However I'm not sure about a hook punch (and no, not posting here to fight a battle over there ) As I understand it a real, boxing hook is thrown from head butt range...fighting range for Wing Chun, but I don't know how to deal with it really. I'll be asking Sifu tonight, but I was also wondering what you guys had to say from different styles and perspectives
  5. Is this Sau in Chinese btw? means hand/arm doesn't it?
  6. The power doesn't come from the gun? Few typos on the drills page btw. But yeah bit of fun why not huh
  7. I do it cause frankly, I want to be like Bruce hehehe
  8. I don't know anything much about KM, although it is highly regarded. I feel WC IS suited to real life self defense application, but I think it's going to take you at least a couple of years to get competent. I don't know if this is the case with KM or not.
  9. You want to 'chin jab' to the side of the neck as your opening shot? Interesting... I'd say palm heel to the nose myself.
  10. It is unlikely that you will find the answer to your problems here I'm afraid. It sounds like CCTV and overt policing would go a long way! [i had a rant about immigrants to go here, but lets just not go there]
  11. Are any of the people telling you not to wait involved with your MA? You know waiting is the right thing to do really.
  12. I don't know much about this guy, and obviously that guard worked for him, but when I look at it I just see that rear guard being pressed followed by a swift punch in the face...not my cup of tea.
  13. I think we're all guilty, funny how wrapped up in it you can get. My biggest problem is that I can't seem to stand near people and talk without starting to try and control their arms, elbows etc etc Girlfriend gets a bit annoyed at it but she's probably starting Wing Chun soon so she'll be able to get her own back lol
  14. Your friends or girlfriend would seriously think less of you because you wouldn't stand up to ten people? Maybe they should have a go themselves. I'm probably going to pee a few people off here but frankly I'd have the local police involved if you seriously feel there is that level of risk. ASBOS should mean that they are dealt with without having to actually wait for something to happen. That's assuming you live in the UK.
  15. Glad you're enjoying your Wing Chun, I also tried a number of MA's before this and find WC by far the most rewarding. If you've just started then frankly I wouldn't worry about Ki just yet. Focus on perfecting your first form and absorbing as much from your lessons as you can. I'm not sure if I subscribe to some peoples descriptions of Ki, as a physical manifestation for instance. I tend to think of it as the difference between a 'good' performance and a 'great' performance. I'm not going to dispute that you can feel the difference when you do something that well, I guess that feeling is what some people would call being 'in the zone' but I think getting to that stage and then maintaining it to be called on at all times is more a case of hard work and diligence than far eastern mystical energy. As ever, just my 2p, no offence to anyone or their differing beliefs.
  16. I've heard all sorts of hear-say about this, when I was younger someone told me his martial art license was basically a license to kill because you could be help responsible for the lethal power at your disposal (lol). More recently I heard that you were legally obliged to tell the person that was likely to attack you that you were a trained martial artist...which I shouldn't imagine would antagonise them in the least! The bottom line is, I have no idea lol.
  17. Perhaps people just like the discourse, even if it is useless
  18. I agree with AngelaG here, my greatest worry would be going in there with a mistake and coming out with that mistake forever worked into your techniques.
  19. I really like the sound of Judo but I'm concerned all I'll be learning is points scoring and very little ground work. I'm sure I'll hear a lot to do with 'that's the fault of the school' so any suggestions about schools that teach a strong ground work application would be great. The other style I've thought about, almost the default choice, is BJJ. I really don't want to offend anyone by saying this but the thing I'm most worried about with BJJ is that a lot of the people learning it seem to be ego maniacs. If that's the outspoken minority, fine I can accept that - you see enough of them in Wing Chun. If it's something to do with the teachers or the way it's taught then I'm worried! Lastly, is there anything else along the same sort of lines that I should also consider?
  20. All I'm trying to say is fight your fight. Of course it seems logical to me otherwise I wouldn't post it would I. If you don't agree with me you can stick to saying why and loose the patronising tone, thanks. That said, yes they do have their ranges and working on distance judgement is important in my opinion. What use is Wing Chun if I stand at the maxiumum range of a MT guy's kicks and try and strike him with my hands? Unless he's about 4' none what so ever. That doesn't mean I can't close and be effective, it just means trying to fight at that range probably wont be.
  21. We use our forms to practise 'real' techniques, as applied when fighting. It also builds the muscles, and muscle memory for these techniques. You wouldn't get into a fight and then just bust out the Su Nim Tao lol
  22. Your basics are the foundations of everything you'll learn, savour this chance to go over them again. I've been attending both the beginners and intermediate Wing Chun classes for as long as I've been able (as soon as I moved up) and have been doing 3 hour back to back lessons for months. An hour and a half of this is the basic stuff, and it really makes a difference to my proficiency in the intermediate class.
  23. Streetfighter 2 The Animated Movie has lots of little bits like that, you could watch it for inspiration. And yes, I'm serious. And yes, it's actually quite good lol although not from a serious MA point of view
  24. It's staggering this has got so far. WWE, WWF etc exist only as forms of entertainment. The techniques and skills they learn are acting and stunt performing. It's like debating whether theatre acting is a martial art for 7 pages. Rich said it best with his lumberjack competition analogy, and I'm glad to see 47 was playing 'devil's advocate' as he put it, I was starting to get seriously worried!
