  1. Right so you have one guy that actually runs a club which does nothing but full contact fighting (even if it is 'only' below the neck) and one loud mouth braggart showing all the qualities that give MA a bad name, and you wonder why it went the way it did? How does this sound, one of them knows how to fight, the other has a loud mouth and a few lessons under his belt. Lessons he has clearly not taken very much from.
  2. Tell him it's great he's making such excellent progress with his sport. That winds most of the TKD guys up lol
  3. Think of someone you trust but is not involved with your MA. Anyone you would be nervous showing it to, even if the fear is ridicule, not getting the form wrong. Practise in front of them, learn to ignore the stress. Remeber they wont know if you make a mistake, there is nothing to worry about in that respect, just get it done at your own pace. Might help
  4. Sounds like some of the work we've been doing recently on changing gate Busling. It's just getting the range and interception right with a punch that fast and hard to see. We also worked on slipping/striking or slipping/trapping.
  5. I think the fact that it's hard to balance is what makes it good - it builds all the supporting muscles. Probably would have helped if I mentioned I do everything at home, and it's body weight only. Don't have access to a gym...or and small people to sit on my back lol
  6. We use sashes for the childrens classes as it gives them something tangable in return for their training. No belts sashes or otherwise for the adults though.
  7. Why do you want to learn? I would say you could fight with WC faster than Goju Ryu...although a lot of that may depend on the school. I have tried various things and to be honest it's Wing Chun all the way for me.
  8. I can now do 3 x 30 elevated push-ups (body parallel to the ground when my elbows are locked out) and I'm not really interested in doing any more. As far as I can see more of them will just build endurance and not strength - mind you I'm hardly an expert. So, any suggestions? I guess I need more resistance, do I just keep raising my feet till I'm doing handstand push-ups?
  9. can anyone expand on, or infact explain 'meztger' for me please?
  10. I've tried Aikido, and I do Wing Chun now. I liked the ideas in Aikido but there is little chance it could stand up to a full on Wing Chun attack. Over all I would say Wing Chun was far easier to use effectivly and far faster to learn.
  11. Kung Fu is a generic term, like Karate. Within Kung Fu there are many different styles, of which Wing Chun is one.
  12. I think he meant the bat
  13. I do Wing Chun. First time I touched a clinch was tonight, about 2 hours ago lol
  14. Hey if that stuffed worked you could own in paintball lol
  15. Basically, yes. Getting a nickname in that fasion when you're still talking in terms of grades is not a good sign IMO.
  16. Yikes, than really goes against the grain. Doubt you could see well, your entire flank is exposed, you've broken your own angle on him and your next probable weapon (right arm) is out of the picture. Even is this was only for a split second to get that block up and then pivot back to centre I don't much like the sound of it! Thanks for your excellent posts Delta1 and HanSword, hope we get some more
  17. That 210 pound guy was Keith Hackney,he beat the hell outta that fat dude. He's also the same guy who punched Joe Son in the nuts....but it was more like eight times. It sure was. What was funny about that fight, the one where the big guy charged him through the cage door, was that this Hackney guy...not sure what he trained in but he was just whacking him in the back of the head once the fat guy was down on his knees. It looked like punching a bowling ball, his head hardly moved, must of hurt his hand pretty bad. No sign of any elbows, kicks, submissions...nothing lol
  18. Double post :|
  19. A big dog and a bat are sneaky weapons?
  20. He's saying if you're not a troll (someone that goes to boards and posts out and out junk just for the reaction) then you would probably learn a lot by reading a few books. Learning some punctuation and grammar for instance and generally shooting a bit higher than a nickname like 'knifehand' at what I can only presume is your young age.
  21. A what now! sorry having a little trouble following you! If you mean the WC 'Wing Arm' or Bong Sau there isn't enough room and the structure is all wrong for that type of punch. Otherwise I'm afraid I must ask for clarification! Do you mean elbow raised to about shoulder height and fist back at your shoulder to cover and basically soak it up, like boxing?
  22. It sure does, I like it. Assuming he throws a right hook... Checking at the left shoulder with the right hand is really a worst case scenario for us at least but we HAVE trained it already In cases where we do 'block' like this SOP would be to open that into a chop/side punch or sinking fist and then pak to keep hitting or better to try and get outside gate and control him. I agree that a bit of space would be a great idea and although you're right WC doesn't 'like' backing up we do cover it and don't deny there are uses or indeed needs for it. I've read that Ving Tsun rejects this totally and doesn't train it at all. Madness in my eyes.
  23. I don't know. I read this and the impression I got was that you say no one will ever hit your head or groin because it's just SO easy to defend, and certainly not your torso...and even if they could that wouldn't have any effect anyway. But then at the same time you say you could strike anyone else's head or groin "anytime I want to". I find this pretty hard to buy really. I have no idea how that picture stacks up against what that guard should look like (hoping for a better picture) but it doesn't look quite as fool proof as you make out. Maybe you have years upon years of training, maybe you know no one can ever hit you and you can hit them anytime you like through experience alone, but to me it seems like a pretty arrogant and certainly contradictory point of view - unless you are talking about the ideal application of that stance and little else. For instance, when you spar with two people both in this position, someone loses, someone gets hit. If you can do it to each other why on earth couldn't someone do it to you.
  24. Full contact bare knuckle karate? Hardcore. I bet a few people have limped away from that one! Is it open to all strike based MA styles or just Karate?
