  1. Road trip is one thing...how many thousands of miles have I got to fly? lol
  2. Nothing wrong with 'food' it's just that I don't know much about diet and I don't have much time nor facilities, this seemed like a good way to help myself that fits with my lifestyle. Thanks for the information Joshua.
  3. I learn Wing Chun. Wing Chun is a blend of hard and soft techniques with a large focus on redirection, trapping and close range power. It is meant to be effective from a normal self defence range, ie conversation to clinch. Wing Chun contains 3 open handed forms, the wooden dummy form, the 6.5' pole form and the butterfly knives.
  4. That's a massive question! Some key ideas about Wing Chun theory: -Simultaneous attack and defence -Most direct line of attack -Domination of the centre line Is there anything specific you would like explained in detail?
  5. Good: Small class so lots of attention Inspiring and talented Sifu - leads by example Very reasonable price Access to as many classes as I'm able to attend for the same fee Bad: Small hall Gets very hot Only actually able to attend one class a week
  6. What's a 3/4 turn punch?
  7. Can't wait I'm about 6 month overdue for mine lol
  8. I do the Abs section from this workout: http://www.trainforstrength.com/workout1.shtml It's worked well for me so far If you were a bit more inclined towards these things than me doing the whole lot would help anyone
  9. Thanks 7* I'm not really sure what's best in terms of Diet, guess I'll have to do what I did for excersise - a lot of reading. Is there something like 'Scrappers Gym' for diet?
  10. I need to add some bulk and this seems about the only way to do it, does anyone have any suggestions as to a good brand? I'm open to any other suggestions about gaining mass, but bare in mind I have about 10 minutes in the morning and lunch would require making it at home and bringing it with me. Facilities here at work are a microwave and fridge lol
  11. I try and do 60 elevated pushups (body parallel to the ground when my elbows are locked) 30 then 20 then 10. I'll add more when I'm able hehe.
  12. The Wing Chun punch is thrown with a vertical fist, and I agree it does feel very odd to start with. As everyone else said, have faith and follow your instructor. Practise as much as you can and make sure your technique is right, don't let that slip for speed or power. Those things will come with time.
  13. Our first (Prelim) grading is: FORM 10% Sui Nim Tao: First section only: Gong Lik, Ging, Focus, Taan, Huen, Jum, Wu, Fook, Pak. 14. Fantastic, your new found motivation is a credit to yourself as much as Karate Forums
  15. How about the fighting arts of laser eyes and super strength? um... or turning green and looking really, really peeved?
  16. Most widley used I'd say TKD. Perhaps the most famous is Wing Chun (thanks Bruce ) or maybe "Jiu Jit Su? I'm going to learn..Jiu Jit Su?" (Thanks Neo )
  17. If this poll was taken all over the world, approximately 90% of people would vote other, because of all those people in China doing Tai Chi and other martial arts. Most of the rest of the people would be doing Taekwondo and Karate. Just in case anyone was wondering
  18. No worries Kicks, thanks for the stories I'm not worried about passing my first grading at all, just hoping to get a good mark (over 85% - the pass point is 70%)
  19. Tough standards for a first dan, and rightly so, what about the beginners?
  20. How difficult is your first grading? What kind of skill level do you need to pass them? Have you ever known anyone fail it? I ask because we have a student of 6 months who's coming up for his first grading and frankly I don't think he meets the (pretty low) standard required. But I don't think he'll fail it either. Of course I don't mark the grading, I'm just a low level student myself.
  21. I think he'd probably get owned by a grappler
  22. What kind of kicks are you having trouble with? I expect someone else will be able to give you more specific, better advice but I would say practise what you are having trouble with as much as possible and while you practise think about the speed of your technique as much as possible. Don't let it get sloppy, just always be trying to get your technique done right, but that little bit faster than last time.
  23. sorry for the pointless post, but...lol!
