  1. Shito Ryu and Shinto Ryu, are they the same style?
  2. Actually I think he might have made a mistake here, it shouldn't be Bagua Zhang but rather Pigua Zhang that the imperial guards trained in along with Baji Quan.
  3. Drunken Monkey, the long fist I mentioned above is just the style called "long fist" which I believe is a part of Wushu not a combat art. I think some of the long fist type style like Cha Quan, Ba Shan Fan and Pao Quan are great and really effective. Those fancy southern style I mentioned is Nan Quan, not the Nan Quan type but the style called Nan Quan. I am not so sure about the effectiveness of Hung Gar through, maybe you can tell me a little about that.
  4. Well SevenStar you are the one that has beening say that longfist is full of crap and I do agree with you. Longfist is not a fighting art but rather a basic for more advance martial art styles. Baji Quan on the other hand is a fighting art and has no value in performance. If there is really someone skilled enough in longfist and beat my Baji Quan, I will actually happy to see that as that proves all your style bashing are craps and Longfist is not as useless as you said. Oh by the way, I never said that Baji Quan is the more "advance style", in fact Baji Quan is also a building block for another "advance style". But the good thing about Baji Quan is you can stay with it and become a good fighter while you can never be a great fighter if you stick with Longfist or Wushu.
  5. Low stance genrates great power, I have seen many hard styles like Baji Quan and Shotokan uses low stance during training.
  6. Some Southern form I'm not mentioning names are only designed fro performance purposes and I didn't say all southern style are useless, I like Wing Chun and Choy Lee Fut and I think they are truly great styles.
  7. Wow gheinisch Great Site!! By the way here's a site on Baji Quan if you like. http://www.wushu.org/eng/1203.shtml
  8. Goju Ryu or Shotokan, which do you suggest for someone who's really new to karate?
  9. hmm.. I am not really sure about Shaolin, but tell you what man, Preying Mantis is a great style, especially the 7 star preying mantis, it's lucky for you to have that in your school. One piece of advice is try to avoid Southern styles other than Wing Chun or Choy Lay Fut because they main contain those fancy moves which has no value in a real fight.
  10. Yes it take longer. My teacher for example, his teacher made him to stand the Xing Yi stance for almost 4 years without teaching him anything but since Xing Yi is am internal art, you may think someone is just staying in an odd stance but actually he who practice that stance will notice that the are changed from inside. By the way, long fist is full of crap as I say. I would rather consider long fist a Wushu or low level Kung Fu style compare to others. You can never use long fist to fight it is just a building block for more advance styles.
  11. You can call Chin Na the Chinese art of arrest, my cousin is in police accdemy in China and she told me she' learning Chin Na in for arresting purposes.
  12. Style doesn't matter, it's the person who' using it really matters, there's no better martial art but only better martial artist. I think when most people think of Kung Fu they naturally related it to Wushu which is only use for performce only. Like Wing Chun, Baji Quan has no fancy moves, what we lack is also kicks, most Chinese martial arts ignored the development of kicks. As for Tiger12334, we Baji Quan fighter may not be as good as Musy Thai when fighting in the ring, but we have a much better chance suriving on the street than Muay Thai.
  13. Are there still anyone doing pancratium nowdays??
  14. Can anybody help me answer this question, thanks.
  15. SevenStar, not all Kung Fu are full of craps like you mention above there are also some more straight forward ones like Baji Quan, Pao Chui, Ba Shan Fan...etc. The kind of Kung Fu you saw I believe is only Wushu which is just a performce martial art. I do admit that Kung Fu's not as popular as bjj or judo around the world that's becuase most people study martial art just to be able to fight. Chinese martial art is usually harder to learn than most other martial art and it will take you a while before you can truth like the other form of martial arts, most people tend to skip this "Kung Fu" part to go straight into punches, kicks and throw.
  16. Simple moves like DDT can be done effectively powerbomb is good only against a weared down opponent if you are tall and strong enough. I am not able to do those moves because I am just 6 ft but my friend who's 6'4 and with loads of muscles is able to do that.
  17. I know, I have a friend who's a student of Muay Thai, he is about to blend of wrestling moves into his martial art and perform them very effectively during a fight.
  18. What is the main focus of Hapkido, is it's kicks or is it's joint locks? I know that Hapkido is a very complete style, my Hapkido friend is able to do everything but till now I am not sure of his focus and he told me his teacher teaches him everything from punches, kicks to joint locks, so just what is the main focus of Hapkido?
  19. I am in Vancouver so I am not too sure about Quebec city, try to look for it online.
  20. Just want to ask those who study Choy Lee fut, have you guys study any internal Choy Lee Fut styles like the 18 Lohan, Xiao Lohan and Choy Lee Fut Taichi.
  21. Hmmm Drunken monkey, I think your point makes more sense, but I did also read from some where else that Baji Quan was also made to fight armoured warriors. Maybe that website was bullshiting I think I go with your explanation, thanks.
  22. Baji Quan is extremely dangerous in close range, on the other hand it is useful for close rang ONLY.
  23. Baji Quan was used to be the martial art of the imperial guards so I guess they are armoured warriors but one thing I am sure of is Baji Quan was designed to defeat an armoured. During the time of war, it is impossible to fight a fully armoured warrior with combos of punches and kicks, Baji Quan focus more on attack with body parts like elbow, shoulder and back in an instance knockdown. A lot of Baji Quan's moves are knockdowns which was designed to knock those armoured warrior of their feet, I think because the users of Baji Quan were also armoured during the time of war, you can't have much fancy moves due to the lack of freedom of movements, so the moves are very strightfoward. The moves of Baji Quan are not hard to do like those in other styles, even those who has no martial art training can do them with ease but the hard part is to do them right with the right amount of force.
  24. That's what I am really focus on, the dashing elbow and rising elbow smashs, Baji Quan is all about knockdowns and I love doing knockdowns with those elbow strikes....Akira style
