  1. Actually that's not what I mean by external or internal. There are hard style that can also be internal or at least half internal. My style for example, we stomp our feet on the ground in order to add power to our blows this is why it is half internal while not totally external which is using only muscle power, so which does Shotokan belong to??
  2. Yeah I could understand what you mean. Some of the Chinese style are very effective but they are usually never as graceful as Wushu or other style. At least Hung Gar still has a Wushu form but Baji Quan has none. Very few people nowdays are interested in Baji Quan because it lacks the graceful movements of many other styles and of it's move seems really stupid to others ( like the raising elbow strike where you strike your left elbow at your opponent while in a horse stand and extend your right hand on the other end ).
  3. Is Shotokan totally external fighting style?
  4. Interesting but I disagree with you that Japanese Karate is a "watered down" version of the original cause from what I see so far, I would place Shotokan at the same level as Goju Ryu none of them is any better than the other.
  5. For me I can call my teacher whatever I want, Shifu, Sifu or even Lao Shi (meaning teacher in mandarin). One more thing you guys should know there is not just Mandarin and Cantonese in China there are others like Shanghainese( my native tongue ), Hokkian ( or Taiwanese ), Hakka, Sichuan and many more. We all have our very own way to call our master or teacher.
  6. Baji Quan for sure, it is used by both the Chinese and Taiwanese military and during the old days, Baji Quan is used by the imperial guards at the emperor's side.
  7. Step of the bear and strike like a tiger. " Strike like a tiger" doesn't mean our strike are in tiger form but rather just fourious like a tiger.
  8. Hey, what's Shukokai? Is that another form of Karate?
  9. Elbows are extremely useful especially for a Baji Quan student like myself. A lot of Baji Quan moves use elbow as it is the fastest way to force a knockdown. I could go as far as to say that the strength of Baji Quan lays in it's dashing elbow attacks.
  10. I am not so sure because my style doesn't have any animal form, but from what I know Tiger style is really powerful and it can crack bones easily. What's the deal with this Crane style, why is it so popular??
  11. If you are a video game player then your research will be a lot easier. Baji Quan at least to myself was made famous by the Sega fighting game called Vitura Fighters. The main character of Vitura Fighter Akira Yuki uses Baji Quan. I decided to learn Baji Quan because of the strong moves of Akira when I first played this game many years ago, here's some information I can give you. "The chinese word for Hakkyoku-ken is BaJiQuan, or Eight-Extremity Fist. It is a Northern chinese style of martial art that stresses knocking down the opponent in a single blow. The practioner has a philosophy of "never afraid of a thousand techniques, but do afraid of one." The art stresses "Bear Step, Tiger Form" style of attacking; break the opponent's defense like a bear, then give a short quick blow like a tiger. It uses eight parts of the body to attack; hands, elbows, shoulders, knees, feet, head, hips, and buttocks. Releasing of internal strength is also common practice in Hakkyoku-ken; practitioners will stomp their feet in order to add power to their strikes."
  12. To make your research easier for you, Baji Quan is called Hakkyoku-Ken in Japanese.
  13. I see, thanks for the information. By the way what's the difference between San Shou and San Soo?
  14. Yeah Choy Lee Fut works well in long range but I THINK it lacks the close range advantage like Baji Quan, but what's Hung Gar like, it is a close range or a long range fighting style or is it good in all range because it has all the different kinds of animal forms?
  15. Yeah I agree with you, San Shou is really a great full contact art but some how it is still in complete. San Shou still has a lot of weakness when fighting middle and close range while Muay Thai has no weakness in any range (well maybe on the ground). I think San Shou still has a long way to go before it can put itself on the same standard as Muay Thai.
  16. Drunken boxing seems to me that it's ONLY useful when someone is really drunk, if you do it by faking you're drunk you might get your * kick by some Karate guy shown in the video clip.
  17. Hi I am a student of Baji Quan. If you know what Baji Quan is you should know it seriously lacks kicks, my question is will be should I pick up TKD or should I do Hapkido in order to overcome those short points in Baji Quan?? Thank you.
  18. Hi, could anyone tell me what's the difference between Goju Ryu and Shotokan??
  19. Hi there, I just wish to ask how many animal forms are there in Hung Gar? I am not really familiar with Southern styles and just what's the different between Hung Gar and Choy Lee Fut?? Thank you.
