  1. Excellent Patrick - let's get started then. Chalk up 1 - for The Magnificent Six
  2. I'd recommend 2 days rest between Tabata sprint sessions. That doesn't mean rest from intense leg work - cycle your programme & you can go hard almost every day! I do
  3. From a conditioning standpoint I'd say yes - if your grading requires a high degree of short intense activity. Remember though that your aerobic base is the foundation - so don't neglect regular 60-80% HrMax CV work.
  4. Hi Jack What brand of Whey Protein do you use? How much do you pay for it?
  5. It is tasty - I get my EAS Myoplex in 4 flavours... Rich Chocolate Chocolate Mint Peanut & Chocolate Chocolate Mocha Ok - so I like chocolate
  6. From my research & training in this field I basically agree with Jack. When I prescribe a strength training routine for my clients I include post exercise nutrition & recommend a mix of carbs & protein 20-60minutes after they finish. In my own training I follow my strength training routine with up 90 minutes of cardio work - so I take my shake after my weights & before my cardio. I though it would cause me a problem with the cardio but as long as I don't hit the treadmill first and turn myself into a human milk churn I feel fine. I use the reclined cycle first for 20min which gives my system a chance to settle down before the skipping, treadmill, Cross Trainer, Concept II Rower etc. My post weights shake contains approx... 30g Whey Protein Isolate 20g Carbs 5g Creatine Monohydrate 4g L-Glutamine Basically it's an EAS Myoplex shake to which I add the Creatine & Glutamine.
  7. I stand by what I said above. As a qualified fitness instructor I see people start at 12 all the time. They are trained in a special session at our gym, under supervision, to the guidelines I outlined above. It is a very easy going non-stressfull introduction to the use of weights. Theres' absoloutely no difference in letting a 100lb 12 year old do chest press with 40lbs than letting him/her do pushups.
  8. Howdy OldRookie - so, you're into weightlifting & bodybuilding huh? Maybe I'll get some backup next time someone recommends sets of 30 reps with light weight as a strength training programme
  9. GFoer those of you in the UK - I've bought quite a bit of stuff from Tao Sports in London. Great fast mail order service. https://www.taosport.co.uk
  10. Yeach - I've just spat beer all over my keyboard!
  11. I prefer Way of The Dragon myself. I don't rate ANY of his films as "films" - I usually fast forward to the fight scenes From ETD I reckon the sequence with Han - befor they go intot he mirrored room, is brilliant. Awesome use of interception - and great ABD (Attack by Drawing) as he sets up those sweeps!
  12. Who is this super hero? Sarge ...? No ! Rosemary, the telephone operator... ? No ! Penry, the mild mannered janitor ??? Could be ! Hong Kong Phooey, Number one super guy! Hong Kong Phooey, Quicker than the human eye ... http://www.sausagenet.co.uk/pi/hongkong1.jpg _________________ YODA KarateForums Sempai 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-03-17 13:41 ]

  15. 12 is the pefect age to start using weights - but do so under the guidence of a quaified instructor. Basic guideleines I would give you are... Don't train to failure Train in the 12-15 rep range per set Stat with one set per exercise, 1 or 2 exercises per body part. I'd say up to 40min twice per week would be a good guideline Spend at lest the same time on cardio. Take a good general multi-vitamin & mineral every day. Drink plenty of water. And don't forget the most important part - have fun! If it's not fun you won't stick with it.
  16. An hour a day is fine - the key is consistency. It's much better to do an hour a day for a week than to cram 7 hours in the day before.
  17. Oh yeah - no question about it. Hee's the KING Been lookin' for that Honk Kong Book 'o Kung Fu for years!
  18. What about "The Magnificant Seversix" as in The Magnificent Sev...... errrrrr.... SIX!
  19. Good stuff Jack - definately one for my collection _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-03-16 15:00 ]
  20. Hi Pooh - Welcome & good luck on Monday. Be sure to tell us how you get on!
  21. Hi Bon "If that's the case, then what's stopping from anyone walking in, sparring and then trying to sue the instructor and/or club ? " ---- Absolutely nothing. And if you can prove intent & negligence on their part you will & should win IMHO. It's all about negligence. In sparring you are agreeing to exchange techniques in an agreed manner with agreed levels of contact & risk. If you can prove that you where injured through not being informed of those levels or by someone overstepping those levels with intend to cause injury then you have a case. This is why I make it very clear to all concerned exectly what level of technique & contact we are working at when we spar. If student A injures student B through negligence rather than by accident - student B can sue student A. All my students carry 5 Million public Liability cover, and I carry 10. We've had a few injuries that go beyond the usual bumps & bruises - but so far none that have been down to neglect on anyones part. The biggest risk an Instructor faces with regard to being sued is from parents of kids you teach. I don't teach kids so that point is moot for my club.
  22. Here in the UK it is illegal to ask someone to sign away their legal rights. Waivers, even if signed, mean nothing
  23. Noses - I know about noses My daughter had that done to her nose today - last week she walked into a wall at school & broke it. Stupid wall lept out of nowhere and attacked her It's been bleeding every morning since then and is getting worse! Last time I broke my nose the doc said, after looking at the X-Ray, that the left side of my nose looked like an egg shell that someone had whacked with a spoon - and that i had a hairline fracture going from the bridge of my nose across my cheekbone under my left eye. Basically he said that if I do it again my cheek will break & my eye will drop down behind it - Yeeeeouch! Went right out and bought the best headguard I could find (stopping sparring isn't an option).
  24. "3)Your linage chart contains Yoda " - Of course it does
  25. In Doce Pares it goes...... White (You have to grade for this) Yellow Red Orange Green Blue Purple Brown Black The 1st 2 of my students are tesing for black at the weekend - I think I'm more nervous than them!
