  1. Hehe - The things people will do to get that next "cyber-belt"
  2. If you want some good poitnts for your blits do some research into the "Fleche" from western fencing.
  3. Erm...... Nope. JKD was Bruce Lee's personal path - it died with him.
  4. Looks like you guys did great while I was away - and now I'm back & ready for the next challenge - Go Mag 6
  5. I do the occasional Tae Bo class at the gym when it coincides with a scheduled cardio workout. Great workout - and hey guys - you get to spend an hour surrounded by all that tight lycra
  6. Leading with the rear hand is not a good idea as a common attack - but can be used to good effect if you set it up by good use of the lead hand. Make them wary fo your lead hand, then feint the lead & wham in the rear! Feint high lead - hit with low rear, or visa-verca. As an aside - do you differentiate between a fake & a feint? They are not the same.
  7. Wow - you go away for a week and WHAM! ------ Newbies a gogo A bit hearty welcome to you all from the Yodameister
  8. LOL! at this thread Yep - I enjoy a beer, or two I much perefer a good single malt whisky though - quite partial to a drop of the old leapfrog (Laphroaig) - and I just LOVE a glass of a good bourbon like Knob Creek - Mmmmmm........ http://www.laphroaig.com/laphroaig.asp http://www.knobcreek.com/Home.asp
  9. Howdy all My job entails the following... Web Design Application development (mainly MS-Access but quite a bit of GIS & Access integration via ODBC etc) Network Admin (200 user NT based network) PC support - both hardware & software Apart from that I teach martial arts & do personal training / exercise prescription for a variety of client types.
  10. It depends on what shape you're in to start with. As part of the training camp I've just come back from (an hour ago!) we ran 5 miles every day for 8 days - this was in addition to 5 hours martial arts training per day. For "normal" and "sensible" folk I'd say a day is plenty rest from a medium intensity 30 minute run.
  11. Nope. He can call himself a JKD Concepts Instructor - just as I could call myself a TKD Instructor, or anything alse I wished. It wouldn't be "rightfull" though. It may be a great system / method he's teaching - there are many about - but without lineage to Guro Inosanto it's not JKD Concepts.

  13. Ad - violence is never the best answer in a case like this. You did the wrong thing. I would have done the same though.
  14. Hey PC There is such thing as a Judo chop Atemi isn't practiced in modern Olympic Judo but in the real thing it's there! As with many competition based arts - the tail is now wagging the donkey
  15. Mag 6 is unstoppable Go go Mag 6
  16. LOL! It amazes me when societies ban weapons - focusing on the tool rather than the user. Weapons don't hurt people - people hurt people.
  17. My lineage is very important to me... and here it is... In JKD SiJo Bruce Lee > SiGung Dan Inosanto > Sifu Marc McFann > Me In Doce Pares Eskrima Grandmaster Cacoy Canete > Master Danny Guba > Me
  18. "as long as those weren't choreographed and the attackers didn't attack slowly or go easy on him." They were, they did. I have the video that these clips were taken from - what you are watching is pre-arranged attacks by his own students to demonstrate the theoretical effectiveness of the art. He uses no techniques that I can see that would not be allowed in a mixed martial ats competition - let's see him do that against a Randy Couture or a Sakuraba. THEN I will be impressed.

  22. I think you (as many do) vastly underestimate how much standup & striking Rickson has trained. I knwo from a VERY reliable source tyhat he's done a lot - a helluva lot. In fcat one world class JKD instructor I know stopped taking privates with Rickson 'cos all he wanted to do was work standup striking with him - the wrong person was paying for the private!
  23. Hey Angus You read my mind bud I find it VERY easy to take down kickers - especially if we are "playing" and we both know they are looking to kick. Last time this came up at the club we (Kicker & me) squared up and went at it. (Kicker was 4th Dan TKD). After a brief move around I drew a front kick from him and shot in on his retraction - Steeeeeerike one Down we went. 2nd time he nailed me good with a side kick, but I just kept going (yes it hurt like stink, but it didn't stop me) - Steeerike 2 3rd time lucky? Nope! This time he was taken entirely by supprise as I nailed him in the side of the head with a high kick - THEN took him down. Steeeeerike 3 Basically in my experience (which is researched rather than theorised) A good kicker has one chance - if he misses or fails to "close the deal" with that kick - we're down! I have met kickers who can "score" on me before I can take them down - but as yet not one who can stop me - and we've gone full contact. The opnly guys I know who can reliably prevent a takedown are people with extensive grappling training. "Know your enemy"
