  1. Baaah, yea I know he gets sooo sick of people telling him that! haha But I guess that is why he is trading it in. I think the main and real reason why he got an automatic was because he wanted his dad to be able to drive it sometime too and his dad preferred an automatic transmission.
  2. Absolutely nothing wrong with hummers! hehe All I can think of when I think of hummers is when Sean Connery barreled down the hills of San Francisco with all those cops and Nicolas Cage in pursuit in The Rock. I loved that movie
  3. Heyyy same here! hehehe I was one of those guys in high school that was so easy for everyone to pick on. Naturally my first and primary purpose for getting back into martial arts was to develop my self-defense skills and become an efficient fighter but as time goes on I am leaning more and more toward personal enjoyment, health, and interest in the art and also just surprising myself to see what I can accomplish when I have faith, commitment, and willpower.
  4. Hello there What part of the WestCoast are you from? hehehe
  5. Welcome Daniel-san. hehehehe j/k
  6. I think the berimbau is the unique and specific instrument which sets the rhythm or beat for the jinga which is a tune/dance/beat upon which a lot of (or all of?) capoeira is based. Sorry I do not know a lot about capoeira at all hehe But everything about it looks very neat and kewlio
  7. Yea my friend has a blue Impreza WRX (but it's Auto transmission and not manual) and I think he is planning to trade it in next year for the STI (which is manual I think).
  8. So Yoda would you say that the term 'combative martial art' is redundant? I only mention this b/c these posts are in the 'combative martial arts' section, hehehe.
  9. Good point Yoda. I can understand where you are coming from. But then in terms of your definition of martial art being anything that is meant for combat, then all 'martial arts' should also be 'combative'.
  10. A lot of my friends are really into import racing and stuff and they like to supe up their Integras and WRX's and Civic SI's and thingies like that but I'm not so much into them. Possibly b/c I don't have the resources to get a hold of a nice vehicle LOLLOL but I have seen video clips of this guy who suped up his Dodge Caravan minivan and it beat out a Camaro in a drag race! Anyways I dunno just thought I'd post something hehehe
  11. Hello:) Welcome and glad you like everything
  12. Yeah the problem is that it's so easy to agree or support the notion of 'alcoholics or drug addicts receiving help and aid with rehabilitation' but then they start complaining when a rehab center is built in their neighborhood.
  13. hi hi to all
  14. Oh ok. Hmmm, I might have heard of it before but I am sure that if I did I still don't know anything about it
  15. I am guilty of that all the time. I am working to overcome this but it is a constant struggle. There will always be a tomorrow. It's so much easier to acknowledge a problem than to fix it! aaaaaaaa Even though the first step is just as important.
  16. Well at some schools I have heard and seen that instructors will make a test more challenging or grade someone harder if they feel that they are more 'gifted' or have more natural martial arts-related ability. I think that this if fairly okay since martial arts should be about working oneself to overcome one's own limits more than the standards set by a certain school, organization, or giant federation (although I also feel that broad, overall standards set by certain authorities are also needed up to a certain extent).
  17. Modern wushu is not designed for combat at all. In fact, all the practitioners do is train in forms. The individual only practices individual techniques or fundamental movements so that he/she may incorporate it smoothly into each pattern. The result is beautiful and impressive and requires a lot of strenuous work and training. But it is not meant for combat. There is virtually no partner training or training for any type of confrontational situation involving you and someone else (sport-oriented or practical-oriented) in any modern wushu training practice that I know of.
  18. Shark Tribe?!!! What kinda name is that
  19. Do you mean Kuntao or Chuan Tao? Kun and Chuan can sometimes be interchangeable.
  20. I am deeply sorry for your loss Yoda, for what it is worth. I agree though wholeheartedly. Often times training (whether they be traditional or modern methods) with the intent to bruise or harm the body in order to toughen it is not always the smartest thing to do. Not only do you have to think about the short-term effects which may already be unclear, but you have to think about what will happen when you get older and your body naturally does not respond to forceful or intense stimulus as well. This decrease will happen (more in some than others depending on genetics, health, diet, and training or practices I assume) no matter how strong or healthy you are or how much you train to reduce this natural deterioration.
  21. Yes, I would have to agree that the term 'spiritual' does not equate with 'religious'. I consider myself a born-again Christian and I feel so blessed that by repeatedly seeking out the teachings of Christianity, that carries over into my martial arts training, which in turn the values carry over and filter into every other thing in life that I do.
  22. I used to play the TMNT Arcade game. Anyone remember that? Man it rocked. Getting three other friends together and fighting through that side-scroller was definitely one of the highlights of my teenager-that-had-no-life career. Well actually I was around 12 or 13 then but hey I loved it all the same. And then they came out with a sequel arcade game called Turtles in Time and they released that for SNES and released the original one for NES. *sigh* those were the days
  23. WTF tkd sparring was never meant to determine who would last longer on the street. It was determined to see who was better-trained at WTF tkd sparring.
  24. To me combative in its purest definition just means anything (technique, stance, movement, form, whatever) that takes on the nature of combat or fighting or conflict. That sounds kind of like an easy-way-out answer but I dunno. To me any movement, no matter how impractical, if it can used to physically induce harm or neutralize a physically threatening situation could be considered 'combative'. But I also think that even though a certain style can have 'combative' movements, that doesn't mean that it necessarily is a 'combative' art because the art was not meant for use in combat. But I would think that most martial arts are combative styles, since most of the intention behind all these styles is self-defense and not to win money and trophies and fame and/or for health or recreation or personal enjoyment/achievement(excluding sport tkd, boxing, and modern wushu and some other obscure systems). Funny though, all these benefits can easily come along just the same with all the other systems that are not designed solely for entertainment or recreation and for practical application.
