Commercialization has nothing to do with quality. Pop music flourishes because it appeals to a great number of people even from varying backgrounds in society (lowest common denominator of interest). However, obscurity or uniqueness has little to do with it either

Rap is fine, rock is fine, even some country is fine. And I like classical and trance and techno too. Whatever fits my mood and seems to draw or tug at the soul at that particular time I guess

My 1st Martial Art Movie
spinninggumby replied to Phantasmatic's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Make sure you don't forget to include an outtakes section at the end! Obviously you will have plenty to choose from and these will be hilarious. In 8th grade (so I was like 12 or 13), I did a Terminator type home-made movie with my friends and we had such a great time even though we were horrible. We tried to film this action sequence using the local playground as a setting and it was so funny one of my friends started making dying sounds before he actually got shot. Oh well. LOL Anyways it's all about enjoying yourself -
I'd say about.....$100 a month maybe? Unless you get a good deal you can maybe even get down to a monthly rate of 60 or 70 but usually in those cases you have to sign a contract to stay there longer. If it's over $100, it's probably too much unless there is something special about the school or the training (i.e. very rare, very hard-core, etc.)

why TKD?

Well I guess to be specific I didn't mean to say that I didn't have the ability to become proficient at BJJ, but hey let's face it I am 5'9 125-130 lbs. it's going to be a long shot before I beat out someone of the same caliber (after, say, 3-5 years of hard training) only with 50 pounds more muscle or possibly even fat -
Did Wong Fei Hung actually star in films?? I think Bruce Lee was the actor in his films while portraying certain characters, but as for Fei Hung I think other actors or martial arts guys took on the role of him, so it's the other way around. Then again, I could be wrong. Perhaps Fei Hung was also an actor?

why TKD?
spinninggumby replied to tigerstyle18's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I like taekwondo because it incorporates modern science into the constant improvement of the art. I admit that it is not the best martial art to take if all you are into is beating someone to the ground, but I love kicking and the way I am built I know that I could never really be a judoka or BJJ prodigy, hehe. I like jumping and acrobatic maneuvers and I love the use of the legs and hips and waist to generate energy and power. It is fun and not just hard work. The hard work is fun at the same time, and it pays off -

Red looks better than black in my humble opinion  hehehehehe -
Bitseach, I totally agree with you. You make some very good points, and after all, in the case of this type of question the viewpoints of women/girls are of utmost importance. Martial arts should only be used to keep yourself from getting hurt and to keep you safe. You use only the amount of force necessary to diffuse the situation (easier said than done), which should always be violent and physical in nature (i.e. this excludes insults no matter how offensive, even when your honor or status is on the line, etc.). Any less force will get you hurt, any more force will put you in trouble with the law, or, at the very least, be morally wrong IMHO By saying that the viewpoint of females is important, I by no way meant to imply that females are incapable of learning how to take care and defend themselves. I just meant that the protection or standing up for women is what is the topic at hand. Personally I know many women who are quite capable at martial arts and could teach us guys quite a thing or two. Plus physical ability and competence is not as important as spiritual strength and competence. A spiritually strong person is better off any day. My mother is one of the strongest people I know, because she has mastery over her mind and keeps on going no matter what happens in life. _________________ It's not about getting what you want. Martial arts special on TLC
spinninggumby replied to Maciej's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I wonder what the criteria was upon which these martial arts were rated. In my opinion and experience with training for a few years, Shaolin kung fu definitely deserves a spot near the top if not right at 1st place (even though currently I love to practice taekwondo and modern wushu), but obviously many others will have different opinions. Were the martial arts rated by thoroughness, being a complete system (i.e. covering everything from weapons to grappling to basics, etc.), being the most effective in practical combat, and/or having the richest history, etc.? Anyways I was just wondering about that, hehehe. -

Many conflicts and many more gallons of blood have been shed in the past which make what is currently happening look like a Sesame Street tea party. I am not downplaying the recent concern over terrorist activity or war, but I would just like to remind everyone of the world's history which contains examples of genocide, slavery, and brutal unrecorded killings (in which only now are some coming back into the interest or scope of many historians i.e. Nanking massacre, etc.). Whether or not the world is going crazy is up to debate, but, if we are indeed screwing things up, it would seem as if we started screwing things over a long time ago.

Hi, I e-mailed Patrick a pic of myself so hopefully it will be posted soon. Btw this is the only pic I have scanned so otherwise I would have chosen a much much much more pleasant one that didn't make it look as if I was having the worst day of my life  I'm a lot more cheerful than I look. I tried to post this picture a while ago but it didn't work.

Yeah I saw part of the Japanese martial arts portion of the program and almost all of the Chinese martial arts portion. Man am I in love with wushu I know I missed a bunch before I actually started watching midway. Was there a chapter that covered martial arts besides those from Japan or China?
