I don't know alot of Tai Chi and maybe it is traditional not to learn how to use a weapons that is not in the curriculum, but I mean, if you want to learn it, go for it. If I knew someone who could teach me to use the sai, would really excited. I don't think it matters if it is a traditional weapon or not. So, I would say that you should go and learn it. Good luck with the decision process and the if you decide to learn the sai, good luck with the training.

You can judge a Martial Art in general, but you can not say a specific attribute for one school that might do TKD or Aikido. It depends alot of the instructors. For example, Shotokan in general doe snot have lots of work on the ground, doing break falls or anything, but my Shihan decided it would be useful, so he incorporated. Lots of instructors use a bit of different MA into one, even if it is almost all one type, there can be readjustments. Also, maybe Zauriel does not want MA as a self-defense, maybe just for fun to go int some tournaments. Then TKD would not be a problem at all. Like I said before, go to the schools and meet the instructors, find the prices etc... It is the best way to do it. So good luck to you and I hope you find the right Dojo.

I did not start to long ago, so my New Year Resolution would be, no tot miss a class, unless i am sick. Stick to MA, work hard, try my best, you know all that kind of stuff. I really would like to improve my kicks and flexibility, so I have some exercises to do for that. For kicks, i would like to improve my speed and strength especially my roundhouses. For flexibility, be able to do the splits ^^ lol, and also just all around flexibility. I would like to get into a better fitness level, maybe try sparring a couple times. There is mine for now, that is all I can think. good luck to everyone else.

Like many people might tell you, there is no "best" Martial Art. Maybe you should go and take a visit to the Dojos, meet the instructors and talk to them. You could also take price as a factor as well, because you do not want to be paying high prices, but only going once a week. You might also want to look into how close each dojo is, that is, if transportation is a factor. Maybe do a bit of reading on each type of MA and decide which you like the most because you might want to do a very traditional MA, but that also depends on the dojo also. We cannot tell you that one type of MA will be traditional or it is a Mcdojo. Well at least I don't think it would be fair to. Like I said before, go to each place, talk to the instructor, maybe some students, find out a bit of the curriculum, see if they do sparring, go into tournaments, all that stuff and that should give you enough information to decide. Anyways, good luck with finding information, and hopefully you pick a dojo that you will enjoy.

Why did you start your martial art?
ncole_91 replied to The Saint's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well I started Shotokan Karate at the end of November this year. I choose this style because there was a dojo right beside my house, so transportation was not a big problem. I also had a cousin and his friend who did karate. During the summer, I saw them both sparring and I totally fell in love with it. I knew i wanted to do a Martial Art. I started to look around at some dojos, meet the instructors and everything and I finally choose the dojo by my house. I am enjoying MA so much and I don't think I will quit for a very long time, if I ever quit. I am very glad that I saw my cousin and his friend sparring. Well that is my story, not very long, but yeah. -

Well I do Shotokan Karate, and I love it. I have only been doing it for a short while and I would not be able to give you a complete answer on the differences. The differences can also be based on the instructors. For example, I do not think that Shotokan generally deals with much work on the ground, but more with striking and kicking. My Shihan teaches us a bit of work on the group because he thinks it is very useful. I have no real experience with Kung Fu or TKD or any knowledge of these two MA. Maybe someone else can help you.

Give the guy some credit and support him for creating a style. Dont go and bash him and start making fun of him. He came here to get some help, not get critized. To go about spreading the word about your style, you could go and try ot get a few friends or people and do some demonstrations in stores or something. Maybe start with a couple students, and teach it to them. Then if you have some flaws or something, you can fix it before marketing it. Anyways, good luck with your new style.

I am sure that you will enjoy all three types of Martial Arts, but I would suggest go meet the instructors, see the dojos, check out the prices. If all of these are balanced out, then you might see the schedule and notice that having a dojo close to your house might be more time managing. I do not think that there is a best Art of these three, it just depends on your preferences. You might try one, and decide to switch to another, or even try another, and do two at the same time. There are alot of different styles in Karate, which are all a bit different, so you might want to fond out the styles of each dojo, do a bit of research. Then you might have more confidence in deciding for your self.

Most hated/killer excersise?
ncole_91 replied to Akaineko's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My most hated exercise would be an exercise my Shihan calls Superman. You lay on your stomach, then lift your legs and hands up for as long as you can. It is a really killer, but a good exercise. -
What are prices now a days for a not too too bad quality heavy bag, not the greatest quality because I dont want to me playing 500$. Thanks

Broke my toe, can't go to dojo, and I'm gaining weight.
ncole_91 replied to krunchyfrogg's topic in Health and Fitness
Good luck with your toe, you could always try to go to the gym and do some upper body excersing, that is if your toe is doig horrible. Anywaysm good luck with your toe. Some adivce for eating too much, after you have a meal or something, wait 20 minutes and see if your acutally hungry or your eating it becuase it is good. Also dont eat in from of the tv ro anything becuase you arent actually concentrating on your food, so you tend to over eat. -
As forums, do you mean Kata. I think you aren't supposed to or porb cant use a full kata in a fight becuase it is so unpredictable. But I think it is a mans of learning and practicing different blocks, kicks, punches etc... in a organized way. It would be the most efficant way to practice in my wa of thinking. Of course this is my opinion right now and it might change over time becuase I just started MA.
