Ki & Aikido
thaiboxerken replied to JEM618's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Evidence also plays a factor, but evidence doesn't seem to bother you. Well, if it's a warm-fuzzy feeling that is accomplished by this stuff, then there isn't much to see at all. This is an urban legend. Scientists know how bees fly, and they never said is was impossible for bees to fly as well. Psychics, mediums, Christians, Muslims, Ki-practitioners and all kinds of other people say the same things. They want me to try their cult practices myself. Sorry, but there is no need to when I already know that there is no scientific evidence to support your claims. You have a belief, that's all. I have no need for such beliefs. Which is nothing more than what I can do. I am healthy, I have confidence and I have a sense of well-being, and I don't train with Ki. -
I think he should start dating her. She obviously has a thing for him.

McDojo's might put out some good information and techniques, but most of their standards are poor because they are more interested in making money and keeping a full class than in teaching people. McDojo's can also give a good environment to socialize with other people. A good think about McDojo's is that you can eventually wear a black belt and convince other people that you are a good martial artist, this is particularly useful for attracting naive beginning hotties at the McDojo.

Knocking cup from young child's mouth with Nanchaku

It is a trick, there was no way that he could miss the shot so his wife was never in danger. Didn't you watch "Secrets of Magic"? -
Ki & Aikido
thaiboxerken replied to JEM618's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
You only have authority on what you think Ki is, what it can do and the like. You don't have any authority to determine if Ki is real or not. That is the domain of science. Why waste time watching magic tricks when I know they are tricks? You are simply trying to distract me with this rhetoric. The reality is that you have lots to gain and give to the world by simply showing the JREF that Ki is real. Science would be able to inform people that it is real, and you wouldn't have people like me doubting your claims. There would be many more people training because there would be no doubt that Ki has some positive effect. You have an opinion that Ki is real, and that's all you have. You have no evidence to support your unsubstantial claim. -
Bruce Lee and Roundhouse Kicks
thaiboxerken replied to Matousek's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Maybe Lee was referring to the spinning roundhouse kick? If so, I'd have to agree. -
Jerry, if you do what you claim, you can become a millionaire. You are in Florida too, so it's not too far to get to the JREF foundation. Randi has tested claims just like yours before. What you claim to be able to do is scientifically testable. https://www.randi.org

Controlling adrenaline shakes....
thaiboxerken replied to zerohour's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Just ignore the adrenaline shakes and do what you gotta do. -
I meditate in a prone position for about 7-8 hours a night, sometimes less because of work. I also drool when I meditate.

What would that "energy-work" be?

I really don't have access to talk to Guro Inosanto, his home-base is in Torrence, California. He was just here in Portland last weekend, though.

I'll kick a person in the head, if they are dumb enough to drop their hands. -
Help me prove someone wrong

I think Dill is into the one-hit KO crap. I'm not sure, but if he is.. he might not teach anything useful. Then again, it's possible that he teaches some good info along with the *. -
Huge redneck vs one of my instructors.
thaiboxerken replied to cvkid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It's a derogatory term used to describe urban caucasian folks. Farmhands would often get sunburned and red necks from working out in the fields. -
Help me prove someone wrong

Gary Dill was one of Lee's original student. However, the claim that he was the only person given written authorization to teach JKD may or may not be true. Does it really matter, though? Bruce Lee's "JKD" was dynamic and changed constantly while Lee was alive, his curriculum was often being scrapped and rewritten. I personally think Inosanto is just one of few people that truly understood what Lee was trying to communicate with the martial arts world with JKD. Oh well, there are always going to be lots of people making claims about JKD. Just consider it noise, JKD is a concept/philosophy more than an actual martial art. -
Goju Ryu karate--Should I join?
thaiboxerken replied to nfl2k2's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Guro Inosanto teaches anyone that asks to be taught, so did Bruce Lee. In fact, Guro was talking about the "secrets" this last weekend and how it's really not necessary to keep them secret. -
Is hitting a heavy bag bare knuckle good for conditioning

Bone density can be measured, thus your claim can be tested. Where is this scientific evidence? But does the bone get denser? Those bones are more likely to break again, in reality. This is not a very good analogy. Here is one that is a bit more accurate. What would hurt more, getting hit by a spruce baseball bat, or a douglas-fir bat?
