An honourable death, a true story from just last week.
Angus replied to Angus's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Uhuh...... Look, whatever. I'm pretty disappointed in a lot of people right now. It's a different culture. And who gives a **** about New York? How much skill and honour does it take to weild a gun? It must be tough living there but if u can't stand the heat then get out of the kitchen. Oh and in case u missed it Javier - I'm 18, male, Australian, and have an ego larger that most commercial jumbo jets. Combine that with me ACTUALLY BEING TOUGH and you have your answer to the questions in the last post... Angus -

I told u that you wouldn't understand, but there's no need to be bratty about it. Angus [ This Message was edited by: Angus on 2002-01-17 16:07 ] -

Nah, i'm sick of elaborating... I was willing to try and explain it at the start but i can't do any better and now i'm just getting annoyed at the misplacement of respect for a different culture. You won't understand because (no offense) you're a different breed. I'd like to drop the subject now, cos it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Angus -
After participating in this new form of karate for the last couple of weeks i have learned the advantages of a quick snap-kick to the stomach as they come in. It's good for setting up a front thrust kick. I almost met my match (sparring semi-contact) in this 15 year old kid who reminded me of myself at that age. He'd block and counter everything i threw at him and it wasn't until i started charging him down that he began to back off. It was cool! Angus

Yes, i did know that - only it's if u kick someone while u hav a shoe on. The shoe is considered the weapon. Angus

Come on Pat! I'm listening to you, i'm just not agreeing. Ross was defending the honour of his wife against more than one person, he simply didn't see the knife coming and didn't expect it. Perhaps his life wasn't in danger, but i wouldn't like to see my gf/wife have to endure something like that, and i would have clocked the guy. I'm listening, i'm just not gonna change my mind. OOPS! Girls what do you think?

I was doing totally non-contact basically shadow sparring with a woman one time and she was coming in quick when i did a reaction front knee thrust and got her in the stomach... It winded her a little (it wasn't hard at all) and she started crying. I felt like a puddle of dripping ooze afterwards and that totally turned me off training with women. Angus -

That's cool Pat, i haven't got a problem with that, cos u aren't from my circles. Just don't cross me on the street Slider - it's not exactly image... actually.... um... hard to explain but i'll give it a go. U know how Australian soldiers are so highly regarded? (Not saying that US or English soldiers or anything like that aren't) Like we are known for our resilience and reluctance to back down even when outnumbered. Well that's kinda because of the attitude that many of our 'tough guys' are brought up with. It's kinda like "If you start a fight your a idiot, but if you walk away from one you're a coward!" It's all about ego in the end, we simply couldn't live with ourselves if we showed cowardice. You're always gonna have the wusses and the guys who have no clue about honour and courage and all that - but from the social circles i dwell in we kinda have some unofficial rules of combat. But sadly we are quite literally a dying breed as more and more punks carry knives around. Don't try to understand, cos u just won't. One person compared it to being like a Japanese Kamekaze pilot. Angus -
Nup, i've got other things to do and i don't like being tied down. I'll go to classes more than the average student but i don't want to commit to this. Ah well. If i can't commit to a woman i sure as hell can't commit to karate. Angus

Nah that's cool, i don't expect ANYONE to agree with me - cos it's just not the way you were brought up... Just think of it as some weird cultural thing. I know that if i showed cowardice and wussed out of something (there's a difference between wussing out and backing off) then i wouldn't be able to look anyone in the eye anymore and i wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror. Nah i didn't take any offence, cos i know it's hard to understand... It's not JUST what other people would think of you, it's what you would think of yourself as well... It's a damn shame that the punks that pulled the knife didn't has any honour. They're just cowards, and hopefully this guy's death will haunt them until the day of their own demise. Angus -

I don't expect people outside of my circles to understand - it's just a culture clash. But wussing out is as good as being dead. Angus -

Apparently his wife was being groped and things like "how about a real root" were being said to her. Perhaps he could have walked away, but that's not how we're brought up down here. Wussing out of things isn't in our decree. Angus -

Oh yeah, when i did BJJ this hot blonde chick had me in a tight guard and we were rolling all over the gym. I really didn't wanna fight back, i was quite content where i was. Angus -
Last week 34 year old kickboxing champion Ross Kimble was stabbed to death on the main street of Albury NSW Australia. Dean Street, which has now been dubbed 'Mean Street' (since a woman was also bashed there a couple of days after) has been the scene of some ugly times in the last few years, but Ross's death is the worst to date. Ross, a father of two, was defending the honour of his gorgeous wife when a knife was pulled on him and he was stabbed in front of a night club in the early hours of the morning. Obviously his wife witnessed the entire event as Ross burst into a fury against multiple attackers and was murdered on the street by a cowardly ****ing piece of ****. Although tragic and unjustified, Ross's death was honourable and i thought it only right to dedicate a thread to his memory. I had never met the bloke but as a martial artist and a moral being i feel deeply for his family. They have lost a husband and a father. Rest in peace buddy. Angus Argyle.

Hahaha... I got kicked in the groin by a female kickboxing blackbelt one time, and i ended up dating her for the next 3 months... I think i was 16 and she was 17/18. Flexible? You better believe it! Angus -
I know absolutely nothing about Kenpo/Kempo... I've heard about it but that's about as far as my knowledge extends. What does it include? Like what do you guys do? Punching and kicking? Grappling? Combo's? Angus
-
Yeah, it's usually a mentally fulfulling thing to do but my hands end up in ice afterwards. Angus

On second thoughts don't ask Angus what he thinks of Goju Ryu Karate, cos he'll tell u that it's the weakest fighting art known to mankind. He'll also tell u how he studied under a 7th dan master for 6 months and how he ended up getting into a verbal brawl with one of the senseis. He'll then burst in an uncontrollable fit of anger and start smashing things against his head. Angus
-
Yeah Sai, but they're sually the ones who end up with my fist in their mouth. Angus
-
That sounds about right to me. Most serious fights i've been in have just included me doing the whole punching thing, appart from a few where i've done spinning kicks and so forth. I've started to do more and more rising front thrust kicks to the shoulder/chest area nowadays, and i find that this kinda straight action hits them off their centre of gravity. I pity the guy holding the pands for me. A good jab-cross combo never goes astray. You just have to remember your correct boxing footwork. Angus
-
Guess so... But i don't wanna be a social misfit at the same time. That'd suck! Angus
-
Well, let me first say welcome. And i like your name: It denotes female perfection (miss perfect) along with a bad-ass attitude (violent)... Melikes. Well kickboxing invloves a lot of stuff... Like Boxing (punching, and doing it properly) and Kicking (kicking properly). There are many many many different kicks and punhes. Also there are things such as throws and wrestling (grappling/takedowns). If you go for Muay Thai Kickboxing (the national sport of thailand), also known as the 'science of 8 limbs' and 'the ultimate truth' then you will probably be studying arguably the best punching and kicking martial art out there. A very hard martial art, and it should suit your athleticism. Anyway, cheerio. Angus

I'm terrified of dying. I don't want to, and if i could find a way to live forever then damnit i would. I learn to defend myself so i can live. But then again, i would swap my life for someone else's. If someone i cared for or some innocent person was in danger then i guess i'd eventually suck up enough courage to try and help the person out. I am honestly a genuinely frightened at the concept of death. But maybe if i go some place after i die then it wouldn't be so bad. I could initiate a long and boring discussion about eternity and religion from this but think i might just leave it at that. Angus
