  1. With any form of lock i'm looking for a way to either smack the guy out or choke him out. So if i've got a mount on the guy i'm gonna smack him with left right left right left right punch combo's etc... Rickson Gracie's used this tactic to gain submission before, and he doesn't even practice any for of striking art!! If i'm on the ground or on the guy's back or something then i'm gonna try a rear choke hold, the eqasiest of the lot! Angus
  2. Must be an extremely talented kicker in a low talent jiu jitsu tournament.... Was it Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or normal JJ? Angus
  3. What fight has ever lasted longer than 20 seconds? I was in one with two guys a couple of months ago and they had me on the floor in about 10 seconds, and then smacked me while i was down. The one before that lasted about two seconds. This is how fights should go, it's not like in the movies where u smack 'em and they keep getting back up. Angus
  4. That's the way to do it!! Angus
  5. Heck, i've been in hundreds of schoolyard fights! I haven't been in school for about 2 years but i remember them clearly... It was always SMACK SMACK SMACK... CRUNCH!! It might be different but when i saw a fight it was serious and it was for pain. I even lost a couple of school fights if u could possibly imagine that! Angus
  6. Well, in the last few months i seem to have gone from 83kg to 88kg and it's certainly not flabbyness... Maybe my weights routine is working properly... I'm not much into calorie counting though, it's not my shtick. Angus
  7. Heh, that's exactly what i was thinking YODA, only i was saying it in nicer words... Angus
  8. Urgh, i don't know how to answer this one... It was good control on your part, but would he have shown control if he had gotten a hold of u? I would have smacked him hard a couple of times and if he'd gone and cried about it i would have used self-defense as my justification. I wouldn't risk stuffing around with him and possibly getting done myself. Angus
  9. Mate, do everything and anything!! Try it all... I'm 19 and i've done: Kyokushin Karate, Kickboxing, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Goju Ryu (which was actually Goju Kai) Karate, Wushu, Zen Do Kai Karate, Zen Goshu Karate... Mate, i've done so many that i think i may have left out a few... It's all about developing your own style... Martial Arts is good for u in general my friend, don't limit yourself. Angus
  10. I have to do touch sparring now, so my heavy days are over. The way i fight however it is very hard to go full force and do touch sparring (cos i do a lot of thrust kicks and cutting kickboxing techniques). I used to spar full contact all the freakin' time, and what did it get me? A pending $5000 dental bill, broken noses, cut lips, broken ribs... I know how to fight, and if u know u know how to fight then u can focus on the other things in life i reckon... Go full bore on the pads but don't damage your opponent, after all we all have to go to school/work the next day, we don't wanna be in hospital. I can see now that my previous training methods (bare knuckle full force/contact) were pretty stupid and may have in some ways damaged my training, but i can take a punch... Be nice to the person, tell them you're gonna go a bit harder, smile at them and congratulate them when they do something good (like kick u in the face - which i white belt did to me the other day). Believe it or not there are a lot of people here (particularly women - i don't know why) who are afraid of me. SO i'm gonna try and be nicer, and maybe just do light training. But anyway, there's no problem with being nice in sparring, just don't let your abilities suffer because of it. Angus
  11. Gees Yoda, that's no good... That's pretty tragic actually. Speaking about pain, what about a constant stiffness/pain in the lower part of the back. I've had that for months now, as well as having arthritis in my left middle finger. Angus
  12. What the?? TKD has way more high/spinning/jumping kicks in it than karate... If anything karate stresses the use of basics over the fancy spins and all that... The freestyle karate i do now doesn't even teach flying kicks at all!! Angus
  13. That brought a teer to my eye Gumby, honestly Angus
  14. So what's the deal with this guy? Does he do like a Muay Thai/Karate/Jiu JItsu mix or what? I didn't know he was in the martial arts until i saw him do some moves in Step By Step, that corny sitcom that was axed years ago... Angus
  15. I don't like doing it, but it's good for beginners cos it teaches the the 'ACTION, REACTION' principle... Your hand drives forward as your opposite side pulls back... It's a traditional karate and tkd thing for reverse punches. Boxers don't do it cos it's just not practical. Angus
  16. Well, i'm gonna have to disagree with u on this one Yoda. When the bones are still in a major stage of development then it is a bad time to start doing weights... Cardio is way more valuable to a kid of the age of 12. Angus
  17. Heh, i doubt it Sai... However, they might earn my apreciation if i can do them well enough to pass my gradings... I have out with a grading today and do 40 minutes of sparring with the people going for their next belts. This is gonna rock!!! Angus
  18. It's Obi Wan Kenobi
  19. Why isn't he a real martial artist? He's Dan grade in Shotokan karate and he's done forms of Jiu Jitsu and stuff. He may be a poor actor but he's got some real skills. Although his obsession with Muay Thai is a bit offputting since he has never stdied it. I don't mind Jean Claude that much. But anyway, hello Pierre and welcome to KarateForums.com... I'm Sensei Angus, but just call me Angus oir any other novel name u can think of Angus
  20. Well, i know some kata now... I know the three punch block patterns desgined by the club; i know Taikyoku Jodan, Chudan, and Gedan; i know Retsu Gekisai Ichi and Ni; and tonight i learned Gekisai Ichi and Ni... I don't worry too much about the terms, i just need to know them for the gradings. Also, i haven't told these people that i have done other stuff before (appart from a bit of Hapkido and Kyokushin)... I'm at 7th Kyu now... Angus
  21. Nah, Paul likes the pain, he reckons if he gets hit then it's his fault and he'll learn from it. Angus
  22. We were sparring tonight and going at it as we usually do... This bloke called Adam was sparring this other dude, Paul. As soon as we had bowed and the call to begin was heard i saw the greatest front kick in history. Adam brought his front foot out of nowhere and nailed Pauly in the chest. I just stood there while my female opponent pummeled me, i was in awe of the kick i had just seen... Had that been done in the street Adam would have never had anyone on his back ever again... It was beautiful, technical wonderful. The knee was up, the thrust from the hip came in, the leg extended beautifully and with pinpoint accuracy... I feel like writing a poem about it. Angus
  23. Yoda's my new best friend... thanx man, i thought i was gonna have a hell of a time trying to find those names out... that other backfist is a short one with the bottom fist faving upwards... it's supposed to be the quickest and weakest strike... Thanks a lot mate! Angus
  24. Sounds like my mountain training when i was 15. Climb mountain, train on mountain, climb down mountain... It was mostly crap and a waste of time... But i guess it was kinda cool. Angus
  25. Nup, that's exactly what i wanted to jog my memory, thanx man... Angus
