QUICK! HELP ME!

that song is by P.O.D. and it's called "school of hard knocks" -
Ok, I go to an all-girls catholic school, and our talent show is coming up! i thought to deviate from the traditional singing, dancing, and acting, I would do a little TKD demo. I'm breaking boards and doing nunchucks, my form, and kicks/hand techniques moving around the stage. Any good ideas for music? For the board breaking I am using "Jump" by Van Halen. Thanks tons!

Or better yet, "respect everyone". Age doesn't affect your ability to focus or be dedicated and determined. At least that is my view .

Ok. Here's my story. I am 14. I take class with my three brothers who are 13, 10, and 8. We are all in the childrens class (ages 5- around 14). I have always wanted to move up to the adult class (my instructor asked me to when I was 12 - he said I was even more focused than some of the adults), but I am the oldest of 6 kids, the classes were late, everyone plays sports, so we had no time for more classes. I am doing very well now, we've moved into the expert class (there's beginner is white and high white, intermediate for yelow, high yellow, and orange, advanced for high orange through high blue, and then expert, green and up. I'm high green). Around three months ago my instructor approached me and asked if I would be willing to become what my school refers to as a "junior instructor" - someone who never leads the class and rarely has large groups, but takes small groups to the side to help them with a certain technique. They also learn from other black belt instructors, hold hand pads, fix belts, keep order, etc. I am only a high green belt, and usually junior instructors are black belts or take the adult class, but my instrucor is watching me very closely and I am learning, and gradually getting more and more important in teachig the kids. I can only teach lower classes, and as the rank moves up the level of authority i am allowed decreases subtly. It is fun. I have taken a few adult classes, and I don't thinkt hey would put up with me in charge. For one, I am a girl, and they are basically looked down upon in the first place (until they are seen in the sparring ring ), and even the little kids forget to call me "ma'am" instead of "sir" and stuff. Some other junior instructors are more stiff, and you could tell they are uncomfortable in a leadership position. This sounds kind of like you. Ask not to lead, but to assist, and if you think you have enough skill, have your instructor talk to all the classes about respecting authority. That's what my instructor does when a new junior instructor starts and is so close in age to the one they are assisting in teaching that the student is disrespectful. Respect your elsers is becoming a little outdated in the martial arts world. How about "respect the person your instructor says to respect"?

Why do we strive so hard to do the splits?
three60roundhouse replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in Health and Fitness
My instructors are always laughing at the way I can kick around 5 or 6 inches over my head, but I can't do a split. My brothers call me the "no stretch wonder". I'm always trying to do a split just because everyone knows me as the girl who can't stretch. -

three60roundhouse replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in General Chat
America believes that all prisoners should be treated well, so I can't imaging expecting torture or anything? -
Doctor: Frank, we have reviewed the tests we took after you complained of being sick for an extended period. Frank: And? Doctor: I have some bad news, and some worse news. Which would you like first? Frank: I guess the bad one. Doctor: Frank, you are dying of cancer. Frank: What could possible be worse than that? Doctor: Frank, you have Alzheimers. Frank: Well, at least I don't have cancer!

I am just beaming with pride to tell you all that I have "shopped around" ( ), but I think we will work together well. The school is the one where Jeremy Glick, the man thought to have aided in saving the White House from terrorist attacks (http://www.kokushi.com). Thanks for all your help, not on this thread only, but I have been reading up and hope for more judoka to come to this forum. I am going to check out the school Saturday and will probably try it out two weeks after that. Well, wish me luck

I always set practical goals for my workouts, and then cut them into a large fraction, like 20ths. Like say I tell myself that I am going to jog for twenty minutes on the tredmill . Then I keep telling myself, only 19 of those little minutes left, you're a quarter through, and so on. When you set a goal, it is hard not to want to reach it.

My God! I'm only 14 and I feel left out!

Should any black belt be able to open a dojo
three60roundhouse replied to Adonnis's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Well, here is a startling yet tru scenario. Hmm....you visit century martial arts or any other martial arts supply store and buy a solid black belt, or even an embroidered one ! Then, you buy a certificate that says, "Joe Shmoe, Black Belt in Karate, signed Master Blah Blah Blah (forged signature). Then, you find a good deal on leasing a building, a room, or hold classes in a basement, whatever. You make a lot of money, when really you just started and only are a white belt . Sad, but true. -
White belt or Black belt
three60roundhouse replied to koreantiger81's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I enjoy watching some of the elders in my school start cross-training, and I wish to do the same. Even if some people are the highest ranked tae kwon do practitioner in the class, they are humbled to start a new art, and since they know as much or only a little more than the other beginners, a white belt is what they should start with. Also, it's good to start low in rank so that you have motivation to continue and move up in rank. -
Estrogen power = good power .

White belt or Black belt
three60roundhouse replied to koreantiger81's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
definitely, especially of they are very different arts. if you are changing from ITF to WTF, though, I'd say just learn the new forms and study privately with the instructor for a while -
You know, I never introduced myself...
three60roundhouse replied to three60roundhouse's topic in Introduce Yourself
My three brothers also study with me. We are all the same rank, but I think the younger one is going to have a hard time keeping up now. If we stick with it, we will be the first 4 sibling black belts! They are 13, 10, and 8! -
Well, now that I have almost 50 posts I'd say the time has come, right ? My name is Krystyn, I am 14, and I study tae kwon do (ITF). I am a high green belt and have been doing TKD for around three years. My other hobbies are basketball, playing the guitar, and arguing needlessly with random people (Joking ) I like this site. It's cool, and unlike many other sites the people aren't biased against people who practice TKD (just becasue it is the easiest to commercialize and form "McDojos" some seem to think it is inferor). Well, I won't waste any more of your time
-
Cool! You have the same name as a Gracie I don't think there was ever a famous martial artist named "Krystyn"

three60roundhouse replied to blood talon's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I think the key words there should have been, "If you are extremely and utterly lucky". What people think of as "tae kwon do" (high, spinning kicks, stupid point sparring) is not uselful, but some of the kicks and training make you very agile and fast. Cross-training is key for a tae kwon do student. -
Different schools teach different arts in VERY different ways, so really whether it is an "art" or a "sport" is entirely up to the instructor and the curriculum he wants to teach. Like my school and my instructors try to incorporate a little grappling, practical solutions to fend off attackers, breakfalls, rolls, kicks from the ground, you get the picture. Always remember that tae kwon do, one of the most "mainsreamed" martial arts and the one with some of the flasiest moves is also the easiest art to be changed into a McDojo or a total sport. Some of the traditional schools are too hard for me. Look for something in the middle. It's also good to cross-train in other arts. :pony: :pony:
