Grappling in TKD
three60roundhouse replied to Cory Reynolds's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Cory...going to your stomach is usually not a good idea - it gives the other guy clean shots where you can't see and leaves the door wide open for all sorts of chokes and stuff. IN regular classes at my dojang, we learn some of what Cory said - we learn how to kick/punch from certain positions, some easy escapes from the mount, how to get someone in your guard, and how to stand up. My TKD instructor, who also trains in BJJ, has started a BJJ program for kids ages 8-14, and we are still learning the basics and stuff, but a lot of the more senior students are starting that. -
Is It True?
three60roundhouse replied to MrDash's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Is it true? No. There, I guess that should just about end the 231498275435th edition of "Does tae kwon do suck"? -
Racism at the dojo
three60roundhouse replied to Phantasmatic's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
What kind, Phantasmic? Although I have never seen any racism at my dojang, I have witnessed biases against the physically and mentally handicapped, the young, the old, women, and men who fit the gay stereotypes. This is usually halted immediately by my instructor, and is always a result of the ignorance of some dumb idiot. -
I am going..... absolutely nowhere. My TKD instructor is going to Brazil to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, though! God for him, and good for me, to - he asked me to come in more often this week to help him out teaching classes. For all those who aren't going anywhere, I feel your pain .

There are of course smaller denominations of tae kwon do, but to my knowledge ITF and WTF are the most common. I know my first pattern, Chon-Ji of the ITF patterns, began with a low block and one middle punch, but not three. You should get back to us after you ask your master what the school's affliliations are.

A living person is easy to measure and a dead man is easy to make a martyr of. It's the Jimi Hendrix/Kurt Cobain Syndrome to a tee. And I would definitely say the Gracies also, not only because I have just started to dip my feet in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but also becasue they are so dominant. You CAN measure a Gracie, and they're usually at the top.

Preparing for Tournament
three60roundhouse replied to KickChick's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Here, KickChick...these people seem to perform the patterns a little strangely ( a little too slowly, and the breathing really is exaggerated)...but I found your form, Kwang Gae. http://www.taekwondo.to/kwang-gae.htm :pony:good luck! :pony: -
Dropped By a 5 year old!!!!!
three60roundhouse replied to Ryukyu1's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Ah.....I know a few 12-13 year old black belts who are very disciplined and talented....I don't think there should be a set age to train or be promoted, becasue each individual martial artist is quite different. -
What about a drag queen?

You sound like a busy man. Well, I am only fourteen, and I have homework, and family, and TKD. I used to play basketball, on 3 teams, and that was totally the busiest year of my life. Now I train much harder, 3 to four classes a week at the dojang, training at home which is usually more strenuous (I puch myslef a little too far) and I also help out teaching at my dojang to pay off my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes (long story), so I am pretty busy. I have friends, but we're all really busy, and I don't have a boyfriend, so MA's don't conflict that much with my schedule.

Officially not a newbie anymore...
three60roundhouse replied to TKD_McGee's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
These are our levels White (you get three stripes) High white (yellow/white belt) Yellow High Yellow (all the high belts from not on are half black) Orange High Orange Blue High Blue Green High Green Red <-----me High Red Brown High Brown Black (Junior black if you're under 16) So altogether there are 15 levels, and really in our school it depends on who you are, not your belt color - I think I am treated aas pretty advanced, and everyone even at my rank is treated differently. I think you aren't treated with that much respect at all until black belt - "When the real training begins" [ This Message was edited by: three60roundhouse on 2002-04-04 19:46 ] -

Graduation - Slow or Fast
three60roundhouse replied to Lars's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Tae kwon do I am likely not to ever quit...I'm kind of stuck in this school till I go into college hehe becasue I help out the school alot as far as assisting in the younger people's classes, and I got a postcard from one of my instructors the other day...it said "You will make a great instructor someday" So, I can't imagine quitting now. And I calculated that not this summer but may e next I might be close to 1st Dan. And I'm starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu soon...but I'm only fourteen and I can't move up in the so-called "real grades" - white, blue, purple, brown, black - until the age of sixteen, and as far as moving up to the "junior grades" - yellow, orange, and green, I think it takes a LOT of time and effort, but what the heck? It's a fun MA. -
Can you explain these "grades", Jack? At our school people test and youeither pass or fail, but the instructor usually doesn;t test you until he knows you will pass. Anyway, how are you graded?

Yes, noises are hard, and he is afraid to fight most of the time...while most people get bruised ribs from training, he gets a bruised back :pony: But he's doing wrestling at school now and is getting MUCH better. -

Squat thrusts bring back VERY BAD memories of an instructor I had once...Captain Punishmant he was! -
I think "greatness" is where most of your energy is focused on people other than yourself.

My brother Mike, who currently holds the same rank as I do, is autistic, very mild, but he still has a very hard time listening to authority. martial arts, without a doubt, have strengthened his social skills and have also instilled a great amount of discipline into him. -
Hey. I would get a free uniform for signing up, so even if it's crap it'll have to do seeing as I am poor as dirt and these uniforms are expensive:)
