  1. Yes, a big mistake is trying to mimick the animal entirely. In CMA, some animal kung fu actually have other methods descriptive of other animals apart from the actual practice-name. In other words, there are movements/methods emulating animals apart from the actual art practiced
  2. cannot have it at all times, unless you are a cop.
  3. In response, I do not pick apart your thread or intend to bash you. I have a curiousity and sometimes interpret things to the point I have to discuss. True, it is not a right or wrong forum, but as you state your opinion, I have the opinion, to disagree with yours, where I feel need to state mine. I do not believe in internal organ messaging. I do not feel that there should be the distinction of "old" vs "new" martial art as putting either on the better or highest plateau. As I respond to your posts, do not take my responses as a personal attack on you or your style. I respond to your opinion or statements in accordance if I agree or disagree with them. In sincerity, have a nice day.
  4. Ive seen his book Okinawian karate Seen it or read it?
  5. [quote name="Shorinryu Sensei Actually' date=' I'll disagree with part of this statement. Yes, be relaxed, as relaxed muscles move a lot faster than tense muscles do. However, if you concentrate your mind on, for example, a grab...you will miss the punch coming at you. If you concentrate on the punch, you'll miss the kick. Etc. Sounds like Bruce Lee-JKD What you need to do, and there's a Japanese term for this that I can't remember right off hand, is to let your mind go free and basically "disengage". Your ultimate goal in the arts is to not think, but rather to react. Thinking to much will slow you down and get your hurt. Again, sounds like Bruce Lee-JKD When I fight someone, whether the street or dojo sparring, I am very relaxed in body and mind, and I look either at their chest or off to their side a bit. I don't think "If they kick, I'll do this"..or "If they punch, I'll do that..". I just don't think! Hmnnn, did you train with Bruce and JKD? quote]
  6. Heck, I am not taking "sides". But I believe the art/school is only as good as per each teacher. Teacher teaches, student believes. Don't "down" the art, but the teacher that teaches and fills bull in a student.
  7. I gave up reading Black Belt TRASH Mag years ago during the ninja craze. Just to much junk and * in there for me to stand month after month...so anyway, no I haven't seen the articles. Same here. Actually realtives would buy subscriptions (many other mags too) for me for xmas, so I will have a whole year-to laugh. Finally, I had to tell one, particular, without hurting her feelings, that I though I found the mag interesting, it had a lot of propaganda. So I really did not want it anymore. BTW, this went on for about 15 years until I finally had enough and confessed to her. However, any good system should be basically teaching the same thing. Using specific weapons on your body to attack specific points to the body. For example, the big toe of my foot (and that's a might BIG big toe too!) to attack the nerves of the inside of the thigh. Is that the sort of thing you're talking about? If so...it's not a new concept. Yeah, a lot is now "common knowledge"
  8. Yes, and SD=Self Defense BMA=Brazilian Martial Arts (Burmese-hmmn)
  9. Yeah, but she had her "imput" on it. Hollywood has to "glamourize" anything.
