  1. I agree. One should not fail, esp lower rank testing if the instruvtor gave the test with logical understanding that the student is READY. In other words, the instructor is failing a ill-prpared student testing? That is a bad reflection on the instructor. Testing every three or four months is a issue to satisfy the cusotmer? Failing a student to "milk" more tuition? The belt is the goal? (yes in a McDojo)
  2. What? Curious, do you have a link to this?
  3. I guess it depends on the "competition".
  4. That exact situation happened to me. Talk about injury and embarassment.
  5. But what it lacks in kicks-does it make up for defense, esp against kicks?
  6. Yes get out of the way-if one can. Step in or jam-if one can. Double arm block, even per pic-if one can. One of my instructors had conditioned his arms so well, if you got your kicks blocked by him, you might has well been hitting a 2x4. Funny thing-about the 2x4, it is almost a description on one of the methods he had used to condition his forearms. And why not, those other fighters condition their shins?
  7. Has anyone heard of Mark Bishop?
  8. Iron bar with cotton really sounds relaxed.
  9. dont take this the wrong way, but i dont think you know much about fighting. never, ever, ever throw a head kick on the street unless the guy is on his knees or something. if you kick at a standing guys head youre probably screwed. Yes, high kicking have a low percetage per effectiveness in a street combat. Been there. Seen it. Been in it. Many decades-close to 3 Shoes on. Shoes off-Daniel-son. Come on. As if one may have the time to remove their shoes in real combat.
  10. are you saying j.k.d is not a newly devoloped art and bruce didnt create it to be faster and more agressive in combat? No-the large basis of his art-dare I say, was Ving Tsun. i think that the martial training these days like submission fighting might have a mixture or orgin of other styles but when you train like that you might have used other styles but blended them into one more effective style. all new styles of fighting arts come from other arts but seeded out what work in ring or street or ring. are you saying that martial arts are not developing into fast more combat effective styles. No, only the NAMES are changing i can tell times are even changing my kung fu san soo class. we train to fight a street fight rather than another kung stylist back in the old days they didnt do this. How do you know how was training in the old days? so know are we not being more agressive cause street fighter uses agression to fight cause he has no training. No, back then there was MORE aggression. Society back then was in turmoil and chaotic. im not looking to prove you wrong just saying things have been changing for martial arts. But what you are saying is that new martial arts are developing faster or stronger-essentially better than old
  11. I don't stretch for spinning kicks
  12. So I guess it depends on the application
  13. But how can a Martial Athelete never be a martial artist? How can you make separate classfications?
  14. Ok- In my opinion, saying Bruce Lee was the best is like saying no other can be his equal. it is ultimately defining one or a art on the highest plateau. And, it is strange to see a non-JKD practitioner do this.
