Multiple Styles - Multiple Belts
Karateka_latino replied to Iron Arahat's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I believe on been a master of one styles and have a solid knowlege of other styles, and combine them and create your own system for fighting.. What i'm not agree is a person claims being a master on several styles of martial arts. You can have multiple belts in several styles, but when you fight, you fight with a combination of techinques flowing from one to another. -

Hi! I was watching a wu shu Forms competition. It was a good show, fast and flashy. Very strong and flexible performers and lots of weapons. But i'm wondering if All those things are REAL martial arts or it can be used for real. Some people Say Yes, other said NO. some people thinks Wu Shu is modern Kung Fu, Other say that its only and Sport for a few young ones. What do you think my friends??

I did Kata for years when i was in Shotokan Karate. I think its nice if you are in a system who use Kata to master them and more important to know the Bunkai, and find out what those moves means and how to use them. As my old intructor Said.. " Kata is the File of all the Techniques of the style". lol by the way, I never never ever liked the Tekki katas. lol

I think cross training is the way to go. Just do it carefully and choose which styles you want to cross traing and WHY. That's very important.. Try to don't crosstrain in two thinks that are basically the same thing. Keep in mind the areas... Kicking, Punching, Trapping, Grappling and Weapons.. Try to find styles the work on those areas, and you may become a well rounded martial artist
