Shootings are actually quite rare in my part of essex. I've only heard of 2 shootings this year. But alot of people do get stabbed or beaten up. At least severeal times a week. Ilford people seem to think their living in a ghetto. I do know that parts of America are alot worser though. Why do American people feel it's a right to carry a gun. IMO I believe that just creates more gun crimes rather than people protecting themselves. -

Nunchuks are illegal to carry in UK unless your going to your dojo, Or they are in suitable casing. I've heard from my sensei that a couple of his students were actually confronted by policemen until they showed them their licenses. Then again the police in the UK are balls. -
Bullshido (Why is b ullshido censored) has some real fights. And try searching for the kimbo vs gannon video. Definetly the best underground fight ever. Great to see legends fight.

I live in Essex but don't feel the need to carry around nunchukas. Although there is alot of crime in Essex though. -
Wow first time I've seen a national wado ryu tournament in the Uk. Thanks for the videos. It's near impossible to find footage like this. Congratulations in winning your prizes. I wish you the best for the future.

In My Honest Opinion. Personally I find the old way a bit too slow. Especially now most karate dojo's offer the new way. Although the old way does have some advantages.

Kickboxing works with karate best IMO. Or you could do a grappling art like Ju-Jitsu. If your in shotokan for the belts then maybe it's not for you. If you love Shotokan and want to do it all your life. Then I think the styles I mentioned would really improve your skill as they would provide aspects that Shotokan training (And most other Karate styles) sometimes don't provide.
-
Personally I see Shotokan as the bases of Karate. While the other styles are improvements to it. But thats my opinion. I'd say go with Goju Ryu.

I like my dojo. Great people and real personalities. Sensei is always friendly and even started giving me a few free lessons. My only gripe is no full contact sparring

Why do you do martial arts?
Chirath replied to jarrettmeyer's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I started because my friends encouraged me to. A student in my year is the son of my sensei and he got my friends to join. It was really fun and I carried on. It was only until I got confronted by a gang of youths who tried to mug me and assaulted me, did I really start working on getting rid of my fear and intensifing my training. In some ways I owe them as they opened my eyes. But if I ever met them again, I would beat the (S word) out of a few of them before having to leg it. -
What about people who study two arts?
