I belive that Bas Rutten started traning when i he was 22, or somewhere around that age. And he has been pretty sucessfull. Wow I thought I was too late to start and Im 16. Thanks

Exactly! Karate is about building spirit and determination. While it can be built by intense basics. I believe that hard sparring is more effective at building spirit. As you are constantly pushing youself to the limit.

I'd also advise buying a jump rope. Very cheap and good cardio.

Excellent style. I like the fact that it uses full contact, Kickboxing and MMA style fighting. Can't go wrong with Shidokan.

Try converting it to .WMV. I've heard that has smaller file sizes.By the way, how long is this audio? I've never thought an MP3 file could reach 150mb.We have snobby brats everywhere P.S ^^^^ How the hell did that appear

You are probably recording as .wav (Huge file sizes). You need to convert it to MP3. Go to https://www.download.com and search for an audio converter.

Hironori Ohtsuka was against the use of the Makiwara. Personally I think the makiwara is one of the many things, that makes karate great. My Sensei uses it. And his knuckles are very powerful.

Kyokushin is also part Naha Te. So it has circular blocks ands strikes,

Wouldn't it be common sense to make the first hit?

I too would love to train more. But my studies take a lot of time. It's would be too hard to do a proffesional boxers routine and keep up my high grades.

I swear i've seen footage of Andy Hug throwing a spinning backfist in the K1

We were performing the pinan kata's in my dojo. I already knew the Wado Ryu/Shito Ryu version of the pinans. My sensei said that they should be very similiar. However I was totally confused when we had to perform. And was all over the place. Everyone was doing totally diffrent moves! I thought Oyama learnt his pinans from Funakoshi. So wouldn't they be similiar if not the same? Alot of the Pinan moves seemed to include Goju Ryu moves. Yet I wasn't aware that Goju Ryu taught the Pinan katas. Anyone have any idea why Oyama changed the pinan katas? Or if he was taught a diffrent version?

Anyone ever used this in real life? I can't really imagine it being an effective way of blocking a punch to the head. Doe it have some hidden bunkai to it? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Osu

In my county there are loads of Wado Ryu and Shotokan dojos yet not a single Shito school. Anyone know why it is so rare in the UK?

Whats the difference between Okinawan and Shokotan?

I would just like to thank Pers for his posts on Shotokan. Before I wouldn't touch Shotokan with a ten foot pole. But thanks to your insightful posts I wouldn't really mind branching of into it. And at least someone stuck up for their art. Where are all the other Shotokan karateka's. Isn't Aefibird one? Stick up for your fellow man -
Another great article well done

How long should a lesson be. For it to be succesful. I am thinking of moving to a traditional Wado Ryu school as the point sparring is beggining to get on my nerves. Yet the lesson I have is currently 1 and 1/2 hours. The traditional class costs more and is only 45 min. Now I thought 1 hour was too short. But after seeing an intense boxing class. I realised this was more than enough time. However I seriously doubt the traditional school is so much more intense, that only 45 min is needed. Anyone care to tell me how long their lessons are? And if 45 minutes is enough for a lesson? Thanks In Advance, Budding Karateka

Wow Shorin Ryuu your posts these couple of weeks have been of high quality. I would just like to take the time to thank you for putting so much of your time writing such good posts. They are much appreciated. Your argument about the 3/4 punch intrests me. I know you mentioned there are no advantages over the full rotation punch. But I find it hard to believe. Maybe it's because I do a japanse style. But does anyone know any advantages to them? If it so flawed why has it been taught for so long? Sorry if it's annoying that you may have to repeat yourself from the thread Shorin Ryuu mentioned. But I really would appreciate it. Thanks In Advance
