America kills 4 more allies in friendly fire
ramcalgary replied to ramcalgary's topic in General Chat
FYI the Canadian were in an area that was constantly used for live fire training. This was a horrible accident that could have been prevented. Although I am angry at the loss of a friend there is a saying in the military take the cheque take the risk. All soldiers know the risks involved when they are in a war zone but it sure would be nice to know that the US will finally learn a lesson and start being more careful. -

Sparing
ramcalgary replied to dafabe's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
no one wants to get hit but if you constantly fear getting hit you will hesitate when you have an opportunity to strike because you fear a counter punch or kick. if you are going to kickbox you are going to get hit. even the top fighters get hit and trade hits with other people when they fight -
Karate
ramcalgary replied to dafabe's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
In my opinion besides ground fighting techniques some thai fighters tend to ignore their punching basics. Some fighters tend to reach or overextend their punches. I seems to me that because of the many weapons(elbows knees etc) a number a schools overlook the effectiveness of simple punches(jab cross hook) -
Blocking
ramcalgary replied to dafabe's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
your hands should not against your face when in a correct stance but when covering some people put their gloves against their face. you still feel the blow but it lessens the effect -
Sparing

One the hardest things to learn when sparring is not to be afraid to get hit. -
Lead Side

I would suggest working on your jab. If your jab is weak the best way to improve it is usually just repetition. Just jabbing lots of pinches into a heavy bag. Practice a good stiff jab and also remember to move during heavy bag drills -
People should be allowed to take religion in school but not in government paid for public schools. Unless all religions are studied. When you think about it would the world not be a better place if we only had one supreme being that everyone worshipped. Maybe every religion is worshipping the same being but in differant ways. How many people die in the name of religous causes every year. Look at the middle east,Ireland and India just to name a few places. How many people died due to the Christian slauhter in the crusades or in Germany in WW2. We are all basically the same with only slight differences in DNA. Instead of looking for faults in people how about looking for positive things. The lack of religion in schools does not cause killing in the buildings. It is the lack of respect for other people that eventually causes problems. Do not feed me the story that the teachings of God preach understanding and respect when people kill and commit crime in the name of their God. Many religious people are the least understanding people I know. They go to their church on Sunday but they do not lead "religous live" the other six days of the week. Sorry for ranting but this topic bugs me.

I have noticed a number of threads where so and so says that his/her art is better and could kick every others arts butt. I began to think was the intended purpose of training. Surely it must be more than just to learn to beat the heck out of someone else. If that is the only purpose then I guess the next evelution will be a big club followed by a bigger club followed by a better weapon etc. I think many of you are missing the point here one the greatest things martial arts can give you is self discipine and respect. What do you think?
