  1. big fight fan here!!! no boxing coverage in australia that sucks what about kickboxing coverage.
  2. Sometimes watching your kids do athletics is tough. I know when my son is sparring it is tough for me not to try to coach him or scream foul. I think many people need to learn a little self control. Remember sports should be fun and exciting. Not everyone will be the next Jordan. So relax and hust enjoy wether it is participating or simply observing. It is okay to enjoy yourself when pummeling your sparring partner just don't glote.!!!
  3. I dont think thai fighting is dirty but do you think the average guy would. A lot of people have problems adjusting to seeing people use knees and elbows in the ring. What do you think?
  4. Although I understand that those who participate in fights such as the UFC are great athletes is it just me or does watching two guys roll around on the ground get boring.....I will take a good kickboxing fight anytime...
  5. Do not be so concerned with moving up in rank. The whole point is to gain knowledge. Try watching a few classes and see which looks best for you.
  6. I am going to make some people angry but I have to say.....the inclusion of ground fighting as an important skill.
  7. What I want to know is how the waterbed punctured..........Maybe the owners gain was worth your pain!!!!!
  8. .Jean Yves took apart Thurman. He beat everyone that the PKA threw at him. I remember seeing a very young Rick Roufas on the undercard of a Brad Hefton fight. He was amazing.
  9. Most kickboxing schools do not use the belt system. The ranking system is not used. It iis up to the instructors to tell you what level you are at. It is a sport not an art. [ This Message was edited by: ramcalgary on 2002-01-11 21:13 ]
  10. it sounds stupid but try deep water jogging.....it is tougher than it looks
  11. Thurman had a great right....Jean Yves is someone who does not get mentioned much but he beat just about everybody he faced in fights with kicks above the legs only..since we are talking about fighters from my generation how about Don Wilson and a young Rick Roufas.....Troy Dorsey got robbed when he fought Jogre Paez for the pro boxing title.....Benny Urquidez beat everybody at any rules a great choice....
  12. dearest shelbelle, I have fought and i do know Mr. Miles(or Mike as I know him by). Mike has done more for kickboxing and in particular muay thai boxing than anyone in north america. What I am saying is that I would like to see a greater variety of fights and fighters available in our tv market. As far as you suggest that I fight now...and you will let mr miles know so that he understands ...sounds like a threat. Grow up.. As for using the word"all" in the statement about his matchups it is called a random generalization. I should have said" most of "excuse me...sorry... I did fight in the past however once even on a Mike Miles undercard. however due to severe arthritis my career was cut short. If I offended Mr. Miles I am sorry. In reguards to you...do not try to cut people down when making a point ie. typing errors or spelling errors....humans are not perfect and we make errors. This forum is for discussion and although i seem to have really pi...ed you off I did enjoy reading most of your comments.
  13. it is myths like this that hurt the arts..... get real dont beleave everything you read or hear!!!
  14. Try bridging the gap. Get in and out quickly. Use angles dont be directly in front of your opponent.Remember to use your jab. It can throw off your opponents timing.
  15. I would like to train harder...and eat better hopefully to lose weight and drop another weight class. REMEMBER IT IS NOT HOW HARD YOU TRAIN BUT HOW YOU TRAIN HARD
  16. If you train long enough with your black belt on, the color will eventually fade to almost white thus beginning the process all over again
  17. lewis is canadian he is a citizen......
  18. in the early days of pro kickboxing benny urquidez went to japan and won....many dutch fighters are phenominal at thai fighting....saying that japanese or oriental fighters are best is simply due to the history behind the arts....there are great fighters from many countries and cultures and styles.....
  19. Training does not end with a black belt! The black belt simply signifies great knowledge of all basic techniques. Being a black belt is a forever thing.
  20. welcome been studying for 30 years still learning...
  21. Danny Boy I live in Calgary and Mike Miles is the only promoter who gets coverage on our sports network. All of his fights involve bouts with one of his fighters participating. Sometimes these fights are not evenly matched. What I am asking to see in Canada is some professional fighters. Mike Miles fighters are for the most part ameteurs although his top amateurs could kick a great number of professionals butts.
  22. :karate:Death is a given. To fear death is silly to prepare for death is another matter.Writing a will, getting life insurance, and living life to the fullest are important. To rush into death is a waste of life.Do not fear death embrace it as something that will eventually happen to everyone.
  23. The only fights we get are from a local gym with a local fighter on the card ...No iska pro fights at all ...........HELP
