  1. OK thanks for the info. I think i can cope with learning katas though! Dont worry i still focus on what i am doing! I just have a brilliant memory for kata.
  2. Yes thanks for the advice, ill try that in future. I am quite flexible so i will be able to do that in about ...er...a month. My sensei Frank Brennan can do it it is uncanny the way he does it.
  3. Kibadachi is the best stance for strengthening your legs. The question you are asking doesnt make sense. Giakuzuki is a punch not a stance.
  4. The katas for Brown belts Kanku Dai, Bassai Dai,Jion,and Hangetsu. So what are the Black belt katas? I know Nijushiho and i am a Brown double white.

  9. The best kick i ever saw was Frank Brennans miageri in a competition. It wasnt fancy the spped was just unbelievably fast!

  11. This article is brilliant and really helps you remember that every Martial art would be useless absolutely useless without its basics. The way the other techniques are performed rely on your basics. The fundamentals of a stance a punch zanchin leg strength i could go on for hours...
  12. The streetfighters way is dirty fighting. This is extremely effective but if you study the principals of each move of karate you develop a better way of using it in the street. A way of doing this is kumite.
  13. when i look at weapons i always think of it as a different art. I am interested in this but i do not place more of an emphasis on this over my shotokan karate i like it but it does not control me in that way. I have a certain interest in the japanese Bo and Nunchakas.
  14. Hey i have a real pressing issue on my mind. In the warm up when i do the splitz i can get very low but i am not sure which way you are meant to lean when you do it(this is very hard to explain in words) should the correct way and more effective for yur legs be to lean forwards? Or do you have to just keep your weight central and push down because i cant sink any lower than a certain point when i do this.
  15. In my first competition in the Northern Regions in Barnsley in England i was facing a black belt in kumite. I was only a brown belt at the time and i kicked him and clearly got the point. I followed in with a punch they say that my fist was "Bent" when i hit him, does anyone have any suggestions what i should do to strengthen my wrists for punching?
  16. cool, i am the mate he is talking about. We get taught in the Red Triangle club inmLiverpool every thursday and tuesday. Frank is sort of singling me out because he is always pushing me to my limit. I love training at this club i feel so privileged.
  17. Hi, i have been researching on the so called aspect of chi. This is meant to be the focus of the mind so strong that the strength is unbelievable. So i ask myself in comparison to shotokan karate, is this Zanchin or kime?
  18. How would you deal with a mug if about three men ambushed you and then tried to mug you? Personally i would use a very "SOS" version of karate were i would use shotokan karate and the most deadly moves imaginable or i would bite,spit or dop whatever it takes to get them away from me.
  19. I understand your frustration completely, you get those type of "Gangstas" in England who think they can boss you around it is one of those things of life. You just have to not give a crap about them and if they want a fight give them it.
  20. this whole thing is extremely infuriating. That type of lack of sportsmanship really teas me off. The only thing you can do as people have said is ignore it. Then go back in to your next comp and do better. People like that are just full of them selves but they have the wrong principals.
  21. If you are not careful you may become muscle bound, this is were your body becomes so full of muscles that you cant use most of them. I think the best way is to just do the normal exercise routines that are the most basic, yes boring, but effective.
  22. I think that the ideal way to do push ups is not to strain yourself totally but to do them in periods. First day do 25 next day do 30 next day 35 and so on and so forth. But if you feel unchallenged by this then increase the amount.
