Hi all, I have been having a bit of confusion with the Gyaku Tsuki and Kizame Tsuki punches, or Reverse punch and Front Jab. What I am really stuck with is the hip twist that gives the move its power. When I twist my hips into a Gyaku-Tsuki I feel very uncomfortable and a sense that I am doing something wrong. I also feel tension pain in my thigh area. Do you think I should shorten my Stances?

My advice would be to use an Age-Gashi-Uke I think that is what it is called. The outside Forearm block is the most effective Block for Strikes coming to the head. It may take a while to master but it is really the best way.

I have rated Karate: Physical Fitness: It depends what style you do, if it is shotokan then the Fitness level is very good. Power Moves: Their are lots of Power moves in Karae most of the moves require you to use your hips in a way that will generate power. 8/10 Self Defense: Very Good 9/10 Long Term Training: Lots of people go to Karate for years and years as it is a favourite Hobby for many people 9/10 Hobby: As I have said above, Karate is an excellent Hobby. It is fun and a very sociable thing as you can meet lots of friends. 8/10

Learning from videos..
Red Triangle student replied to zerohour's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In a Dojo is the best way to learn a Martial Art, but if you are going to learn weapons then I reccommend that you get either a book out the Library or a yes a DVD, because DVDs are the best way to learn watching a screen as you can still Frame the screen and then you can see what to do more clearly. -

I have a lot of pain when I kneel
Red Triangle student replied to krunchyfrogg's topic in Health and Fitness
Maybe you have bruised your innner foot? I would try going light on it for a while. If your foot really is uhrting when you kneel, you don't have to go through with it. Is it hurting when you do the "Moxo" part of a lesson? Because if it is then you could just ask your sensei if you could stand up whilst you are doing the moxo part of the lesson. -
I have never actually heard of "Vovinam" I don't think it is a very popular Martial Art. You will be lucky to get any written Literature on. But since it is a Martial Art used by the Vietneese or the Americans in Vietnam then if you get text on the combat the soldiers of Vietnam used then it should be in that.

Help With Competition Gi please!
Red Triangle student replied to Steinhauers's topic in Equipment and Gear
I strongly reccomend this website: http://home.bt-webworld.com/kamae/welcome.html It has all the information you could possibly want on Gis and any Karate uniform. It has Over Twenty varieties of Gis and ordering information. I would strongly reccomend the International Gi or the Olympic Gi. All of the Gis are from 55% to 100% Cotton. and their is a lot of heavyweight competition stuff on there. -
In MY opinion-yes, MY opinion. I am saying my opinion because people sometimes seem to get offended when you express your opinion because they seeem to think you are voicing lots of other peoples thoughts and are going against their opinion. It is only my opinion. Well...anyway, I think that the best Martial Art is Karate, preferably Shotokan Karate. My reasons for this? Welll, Karate is the most logical Karate in my view. It is based on the defence and behaviour you would use on a common fight. It has been developed to be extremely clever and cunning. Both in Philosophical ability and Physical ability. Also, in my opinion Karate is fun and interesting to study. The Japanese culture is a really good discipline system, plus it really makes Karate enjoyable.

I live in England. I got my S.A.T.s results the other week. They are as follows: English: Level 7 Maths: Level 6 Science: Level 6 In our country we base our results on Levels ( Where as 7 is higher than one) 7 is the highest level you can receive for English and Science, it goes up to 8 in Maths. Level 5 is a pass. Anything Below is a fail. P.S. I am happy with my results and am pleased to say I got the highest mark in the year(86) For English!

Personally, I don't like Rap Music. Personally, I detest Thugs and Criminals who are under the influence of Rap Music. Rock Rules! -
