I think one of the hardest rhythms in Shotokan karate is of the kata Empi. The first stage of the kata is hard to follow rhythm. But of course rhythm is essential and without the rhythm the rhythm the kata would be meaningless.

HELLO? JIYN! It was I who took you to that competition and you have left me out! Well now i will proceed to tell everyone about what happened to me! I won four rounds of kata! I then proceeded to the fifth round, if i would have won that i would have been in the semi finals. But no i got the worst luck in the damn world! I come up against a big lad whose MUM AND DAD WERE JUDGES JUDGING HIM! The injustice of this made me want to murder somebody! They said that they can be referees if they are not biased, but like Jiyn says the competition was nothing but Biased. I was clearly better doing the kata Heian Needan and i should have won. But he got the vote! In kumite that was a whole different story you couyld say he won fair and square but it wasnt actually fair on me! I got told that the categories were going to be 5ft to 5ft 5 and below 5ft for juniors. Now i was expecting to go up against people who were around the same size as me since i am 5ft 3 well anyway when i got there i discovered that the categories were to my horrid displeasure 5ft 3 and over and under 5ft 3 so as you can imagine i got placed in the over 5ft 3s and then i vcome up against a 6ft tall as big as a baby killer whale steam engine! Imagine that the smallest against the biggest! Theoir was people who were bigger than me in the next categorie down! Well as you can imagine i got rail roaded off of the mat and they give him a point for that! Then i attempted a miageri so that hje could run onto it, but it didnt work my leg merely crumbled under his weight whilst he was running at me sending me backwards! They gave him another point then i waa beat!! The competition was biased and i hated it!!!

The key is to have your body square when you are travelling and then to twist onto a 45 degree when you land. The move should be treated as if you are blocking somebody.

Ha Ha thank you Jiyn i am flattered. Just stay calm about Sunday, it will be OK. As people say though you never perform well if your not nervous. best not get too nervous though. I am nervous myself but you need to chill it is the key.
-
I think that you need to chill out more, you need to think about what is going on here, you are sparring with your friends, they arent going to hurt you. You need to chill and enjoy it. Think what it must feel like for them to have you coming at them like a wild animal. have you tried that yet?

Effective street combinations?
Red Triangle student replied to Jiyn's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well Jiyn, i think that using your Karate and doing it in Freestyle ought to be a good way. Don't use it like in the Dojo though, because street fighting as you say, is dirty. So i would fight with karate in a more street fight like way. -
I would have to say my worst kata is Hangetsu i cant get ny head around those stances, or Heian Sandan, which is a bit boring. Yes Kihon Kata is boring but it is fundamentals which are dyerly important.

Martial artist or just learning to fight?
Red Triangle student replied to IronZ's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If i was to make that decision, i would place myself in the categorie of "Martial Artist" i abide by the spirit of karate and i dont just go there to learn how to fight. I know how to fight and so does everyone, t s instinct, i learn how to DEFEND myself and how to perfect my style of Martal Arts and find Joy and Glory through it all. -
Welcome to KF i hope you enjoy your stay

Good news for posters on this forum!!!
Red Triangle student replied to delta1's topic in General Chat
This is actually quite intrigueing. Very interesting. -
I would say that you can never do too much kata, you can never totally perfect your style so practicing is compulsory to your karate.
-
I did know that since i had Bob Poyunton train me last Monday! at our club!

Well in the KUGB the Brown belt katas are: Bssai Dai, Jion,Empi, kanku dai,Hangetsu. Does anyone know what the KUGB katas are for Black belts? I already know that one is Nijushiho.
-
oooohhhh i love katanas! I like the way they look and the way they swipe through their target other than hacking at it. I f you push and not push you will hack. Has anyone heard of the way they make these swords? They get block of metal heat it and bang it flat, they then repeat the process until perfect. Some blades have been banged over 1000 times!

What does it take to be a Grand Master?
Red Triangle student replied to yireses's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
So basically you wouyld have to have dedicated everything to Martal Arts and you would have no wife or kids because you would have no time for them. -

Kata: the Fundamental Element of Martial Arts
Red Triangle student replied to G95champ's topic in Karate
I think that kata really has the beauty and style of shotokan kata contained within it. The basics of every move are contained within them. They help the body the mind and the spirit develop. -
these prices are good and i think i will buy some of these soon. I was asking one of my other senseis Bob Poynton who authorises the KUGB media and things about them. He said that they should be getting the DvDs soon. I am thinking of buying the Gichin Funakoshi book, it sounds an excellent read.
