  1. Biggest karate tournament of the year. Who's going
  2. Jumping kind of throws your weight more (I haven't found jumping to be effective at all) but at the same time puts in a bad situation since your grossly off balance and will probably get layed out with a simple side step followed by an uppercut or snap front kick. I would not recommend jumping unless your size allows it. Same with axe kicks. Devastating but you need defense to prevent any counters.
  3. People who study Aikido fall into two categories.....asians and psychos. I'd recommend jiu jitsu
  4. I've seen them myself in Tae kwon do but it's kind of a worthless move in combat. Very cool looking wheel kick variation. I'm involved with kickboxing but i've never had that move pulled on me. It would look pretty easy to counter by simply ducking the head and side kicking the off balance leg.
  5. There's a Brazilian Jujitsu strangle hold called the "Triangle Choke" which is a leg scissors around the neck with the arms gripping the opponents arms.
  6. Look, Rocky beat up Mr. T using Western Boxing. I think that explains it all.
  7. Good ol' Jean-Claude Van Damme was a master of "Flashy Karate" with limber high stretching legs but no substance.

    HI

So many styles but the difference lies in the kata. Most have the same basic blocks and strikes but the system is different. I don't have much interest in all these foreign styles, I prefer American Shotokan, A few Kenpo kata, and American kickboxing.
  9. I've always loved Shotokan for it's linear simplicity and effectiveness as a defense. New hybrids of Shotokan are always welcomed.
  10. Elvis was the man. Who would like to see an Elvis / Steven Seagal match??
  11. Forearm to forearm causes less damage because less weight is being thrown on a specific point rather than using the power of the shoulder and bicep in an elbow clash. Boxers use heavily padded gloves (12 ounce usually) and get tired quicker, a disadvantage. Just stick to parring and blocking with the forearms to avoid blows to the face and body. The forearms in Muay Thai are toughened to avoid damage.
  12. I finished watching the classic "Bloodsport" for about the 20th time and just wondered if Anybody has done any kind of study in this style. Based on a true story, Frank Dux was obviously played by Jean-Claude Van Damme but it was mentioned that after being the first White to win the annual Kumite in Hong Kong, he invented "Dux-Ryu" style of Karate. I've never heard of this and Jean Claude used what appeared to be a kickboxing or Goh Ryu Style in the tournament (not sure since i know little about anything but Shotokan and He studied Shotokan when he was ten according to his bio) So my question is what makes Dux-Ryu Karate unique and how is it implied.
  13. Bob Sapp is so overated. 400 lbs. doesn't make you a good fighter!
  14. My all time favorite boxer is .............Jean Claude Van Damme! No just kidding. I'm a huge Jimmy Wilde fan.
  15. I've been studying Shotokan Karate for a few months now, learning katas on my own but I'm starting to gain interest in Aikido as I'm a huge Steven Seagal fan. I know that Seagal is a master of Aikido and Kenpo, but I have no clue what Hapkido is and how it is different from Aikido.
  16. 1. Muay Thai 2. Traditional Boxing 3. Shotokan Karate 4. Pankration 5. Krav Maga 6. Judo 7. Hapkido 8. Aikido 9. Brazilian Jujitsu 10. Goh Ryu Karate
  17. Strectching is important but your junk don't have to hit the ground to get an effective kick.

    HI

Shotokan. I love the system because it's very linear and "hard", opposed to the softer Chinese styles, which are for fairies.
