Elbows are more effective in close , "up in your face" fights usually to counter grappling. Punches are ranged attacks that are more effective from a distance, as are kicks. As for the spinning elbow, I wouldn't recommend attempting it if you feel your not confident in executing it with perfect timing. Hell, I've never used it in a fight and probably never will. Never attempt something in a street fight you know your not capable of doing or you'll get beat to the ground quickly.

wat is myuai thai?
G Money Slick replied to Maddwraph's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Muay Thai is not for everyone. It takes alot of physical training and toughness. The benefits are worth it however. -
Yeah call Thailand and ask for a Mr. Xian. He'll teach you Muay Thai so you can avenge any crippled brothers you might have. You might have to pick up his groceries from Mylee's store and fight thugs wearing a strap on tank top and splash water on small children. Oh, and it would help if you had a combover and french accent. Contact a local kickboxing gym through your local phone book. I swear that's how I found a place to learn Hapkido. Just look in the phone book and ask the receptionist questions like "How much, when are classes, and so on".

Yeah, Im going to agree. But in a way that's just his gimmick, his character makes him stand out in boxing. Kind of like Dennis Rodman stuck out in Basketball. Lennox is a true gentleman and everything a champ should be. He went out on top. Tyson will be lucky to go out on the dirt bottom, if not dead.

Um K-1 isn't a style, it's an organization -
I just saw a poster of the movie, his name has been changed to Vic Latour. No Jackson or Chong Li, but worst of all, NO LIN! "When sun go down, it's time to protec yo nuts!" , "You look like a Jackson!". Van Damme looks just as built as he was in 1987, even if his face is noticeably aged, and he lost his trademark combover.

Coolest move in sparring?
G Money Slick replied to blitzcraig's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Sidekick, Axekick, Crescent Kick If your talking about cool, I've always loved the way a mechanically perfect sidekick looks....so martial artsie. -
For some reason I can't get over the feeling that this reality show is just an attempt to cling on the remains of his fame so people will actually pay money to see him get whipped by Bernard Hopkins. The last title he got his hands on was from a paper champion. He's been doing poorly in the ring over the last 2 years, losing more often, not getting any knockouts, maintaining victories with split decisions...I use to love him in his prime primarilly for his finesse and combinations. Now his style is so much different, not as graceful as I once remember.

Chuck Norris' New Book
G Money Slick replied to gcav's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Chuck Norris is in his 60's. I'm surprised he waited so long to write this. Should be good, wonder if he can write as good as Lee. -

Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance.... Sonya uses Tae Kwon Do as one of her styles (Kenpo as the other) The moves are authentic. Check it out. -
Aside from a little Hapkido with a friend of mine, I was interested in learning Karate for the longest time but got discouraged by the number of small, dorky children (most around 10) walking out of all the local schools here in Central Florida; running around inside like little idiots. Instead of a place to learn to fight, it seems more like a daycare. I've noticed that a kickboxing gym is more of a place of men than a karate dojo, as it seems to have more "serious" contenders inside. I'm talking about breaking a sweat, weightlifting, heavy bag pounding, real fighters. I'm sure alot of people here would disagree who support karate over kickboxing/Muay Thai, but does anybody else seem to notice this situation? It's like kickboxers seem more tough than karateists, who don't get as much respect.

Celebrity fighter-The Best?
G Money Slick replied to Rich_2k3's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Dont forget flemish. He knows that one to. Steven Seagal is old and out of shape. In his prime however, he was a most formidable opponent. Chuck Norris is a great fighter as well, in great shape even at age 50. -

A Hapkido dojo is rare. Usually taught with TKD. -
